  • The media makes a Running Gag out of the picture of Howard Roark and the caption "Are you happy, Mr. Superman?" (as in, Nietzsche's superman)... and what is his girlfriend's profession? Newspaper reporter!
  • When Roark and Dominique have sex for the first time, she wants it. Yes, it's violent and rough, but she still wanted it — she even went so far as to deliberately damage her fireplace to get him in her house; it was a complete fantasy in-universe with her complete consent. Now, on her wedding night with Wynand, she consents, but she doesn't want it... which Gail finds incredibly amusing, and he thoroughly enjoys subsequently making her body betray her and respond to him against her will. Which man acts more like a rapist?
  • The first section is titled "Peter Keating", even though it's pretty obvious from the beginning that Howard Roark is going to be the main character. Keating is a man who spent his life trying to be what other people wanted, never developing an identity of his own — how fitting that "his" section of the book ends up actually being about someone else.
