Lasombra uses a free birthday lunch coupon in the opening scenes. He suspects that it might be expired, but the waitress immediately assures him that it's valid. It's ultimately revealed he is a tulpa who was created on that day, so it really was his birthday. The cult gave him a coupon (disguised as an old gift but quite new) to celebrate his own birthday.
In several scenes, Lasombra announces, "I was born in San Francisco," usually with only a very loose connection to the conversation. His file contains a news clipping titled "Born in San Francisco," so Lasombra was awkwardly forcing in a detail from his conditioning.
One of the most recognisable features of San Francisco is it's world famous Golden Gate Bridge, which is probably why the Pontifex society chose it as Lasombra's hometown.
At the camp, Lasombra discovers some cultists performing a massive ritual, which eventually causes the stars in the sky to warp, looking almost like a Time Lapse. Later, we get to see the kind of ritual that created Lasombra, and it looks pretty similar, albeit smaller. It's possible that the camp ritual was so powerful that it almost erased Lasombra, and the stars moving like that was really him Missing Time as a result.
