Fridge Brilliance

  • The first book is quite staunchly black and white when it comes to the male and female characters; only a handful of female characters are shown in a negative light, while almost every single male character is extremely flawed. In the sequel the characters are far more balanced, with Anais and Annie in particular being given natural flaws that make them seem more human. Is this an Author's Saving Throw or has Ginny realised that she can't idolise people any more, and now she's seeing them as they truly are?
  • When Ginny meets Annie, she takes note of her green-blue eyes. She notices the same thing about Sebastian's eyes when she meets him in the sequel, which is potentially an early hint that they're related.
  • Ginny's actual weight is never mentioned, but only hinted at. The first book confirms that she's overweight but not obese, and that with just a little exercise she could be at a 'normal' weight. However Ginny claims that she's fat enough that people stare at her when she's eating unhealthy food out in public. Or it could it be that Ginny is a self-conscious teenage girl who just thinks that everyone is staring at her and that she's not that large at all?

Fridge Horror

  • What would have happened to Frances had she fallen and hurt herself when Ginny wasn't there to help her? The area has no mobile phone reception, the nearest phone is in the house and she fell outside and was could barely move due to how injured she was. With her boyfriend occupied at work, it's entirely possible that Frances would have been there a long time before any help was summoned.
