• One would think that a species with hyper-acute hearing that evolved on a planet with constant rainfall and thunder would have the ability to filter out the sound of thunder. Indeed, episodes of Deep Space Nine that take place on Ferenginar show Ferengi experiencing no pain or even reacting to the sound of thunder.
  • Considering the alien Portal was responsible for creating the "thunder" that pained the Ferengi so much. Though it's unclear, it's possible he was deliberately making a noise that was painful to them.
