The Rental Store Guy is called "Pops" by the Daikon Brothers. A usual first thought is that it was just a nickname to shorten his usual name, but as I soon found out, he is a persona of the show's director and they both go by the exact same name, "Shinichi Watanabe". In short, he is
LITERALLY "Pops" to them.
- Actually it's a adaption of what they call him in Japanese. In Japanese, you often refer to someone by their title (a teacher or doctor becomes sensei) or when you don't know someone's name you often call them by an honorific (What they might be called depends on their age. Obaasan (grandmother) or Ojiisan (grandfather) for elderly etc). In Nerima Daikon Brothers they call the rental guy Oyasan which is what you would call your landlord or landlady (he's renting thing to them). English doesn't have an equivalent to oyasan so the dub went with Pops which can be used as a slang term to address a man older than you.
