Fridge Brilliance
- In book eight, Anastasia could have easily found out what Laura's distress signal code did because she had Zero, a Technopath. However, she stated that the only reason she was keeping Laura alive was so that she could torture her each day for fun, which is why she set Zero on her, as not only was he as sadistic as she was, but he was also Otto's clone. She had seen Otto and Laura's fake hug at the climax of Aftershock, so she knew this would be worse than just having Zero open the program and read it.
- In book one, it is mentioned that the reason Pike did the experiment on Mrs. Leon was because Number One had asked him to do research on body-swapping. This must have been because he foresaw a difficulty taking over Otto's body, or wanted to ensure it would be done correctly. It ended up going better than expected, because she was never able to return to her original body.
- At the end of Deadlock, when Otto and Laura are in the library discussing their feelings for each other and the possibility of Laura leaving the Island, Shelby walks in on them kissing. How did she know this would be going on when even the two of them weren't aware of the possibility that Laura could go home? She also didn't know that Otto and Laura had kissed once in the last book. In Aftershock, Wing notes a change in the demeanor of Otto and Laura around each other. When questioned, Otto asks Wing not to tell Shelby that something "might" be going on between them, but Wing warns him that a secret cannot be kept from Shelby for very long, because she "can sense when he is keeping something from her, and has been known to employ physical torture" to get it out of him. In the months following Aftershock, it is likely that the topic of Otto and Laura's blossoming romance came up in conversation, and Wing wasn't able to keep his mouth shut. Shelby thus extrapolated that anywhere they were alone together they were likely to be making out, and she was right.

- The memorial for the Contessa built in H.I.V.E.'s atrium turned out to be much more fitting than originally intended. Whose name is on the obelisk? The Sinistre Family.
