Fridge Sadness

• Unusually for a Film Noir, this movie portrays the relationship between Bart and Laurie, the femme fatale character, in a surprisingly sympathetic light. There is even a heartwarming scene on the night before the climactic final chase where the two are dancing to a romantic song and speaking longingly of their love, and their relationship in general is portrayed as being based on genuine feelings for each other. This, of course, just makes the way it ends even more tragic.
