In the Gadget and the Gadgetines Universe, the world is far more unified - to the extent that the entire world's military forces have been placed under the unified command of a single general. This seems quite impossible (given that one would have to get the Chinese, Iranians and Russians on board with working with NATO) until one re-watches the pilot episode "Don't call me Gadget". In that episode, Gadget informs a race of aliens looking for a new world that Earth's Moon is "open territory", and that they can settle on the moon. The unification of the world's military forces is likely a response to an ongoing alien colonization effort on Earth's moon. The world is either living in fear of an alien attack, or preparing an effort to evict the alien colonists from Earth's moon.
