Murakami invites Moritani over to her house and then offers to have sex with her, but not because of romantic feelings, but simply because it's what she feels that Moritani wants. One has to wonder if either Murakami has allowed this to happen with others, before, or, alternately, that someone tried to get her to have sex with them, she turned them down, and she decided that it was better for her to simply comply with the next person if it came up again. Either way, it's a tragic realization about Murakami's lack of self-worth, and it's only fortunate that Moritani didn't take advantage.
