Fridge Brilliance
- Pollard never explicitly lines out Brown, Hicks, or Sgt. Ching on his plan other than that he will shoot Ward and Tikka once Jakoby is dead. Why do he and the others go to so much trouble to push Ward to shoot Jakoby, even to the point of keeping their weapons holstered when they walk outside? Because Pollard intends to set it up to look like Ward, who is still not over his previous shooting incident, murdered Jakoby over the suspicion of having let the shooter go, and Pollard and the others then shot Ward while trying to arrest him. This will make for a nice open and shut investigation that gets rid of Jakoby and ensures nobody outside their circle knows about the wand.
- As bigoted as he is, Ward really doesn't have that much animosity towards his partner, as we see when he seems on the verge of tears and/or violence when dealing with the IA detectives, and again when Pollard and Ching are browbeating him into murdering Jakoby. Sure, he doesn't like Nick, but he has no desire to screw him over, either, much less murder him. Even when he seems to be going along with it, he still wants to hear Jakoby admit to letting the orc who shot him go, to try to provoke himself into pulling the trigger. On top of that, Ward knows he isn't popular, and when they walk into the street behind him, you can see the point at which Ward connects the dots and realizes that they all hate him and would never cut him in (some brilliant and subtle acting by Will Smith). Cue a hail of bullets in their direction.
- Why does Tikka, a barely-trained mage who knows only two or three spells, know a resurrection spell of all things? Because she was being trained to resurrect the Dark Lord.
- Related: Tikka nearly dies resurrecting one man who was Not Quite Dead. That explains why they need more wands and more Brights to resurrect someone who's been dead for thousands of years—they need more power and more people to absorb the backlash.
