The Legend of Maula Jatt is a Pakistani action epic released in October 2022 which quickly became the highest grossing Pakistani film of all time. Loosely inspired by the 1979 film of the same name, it follows the titular Maula Jatt, the heir to the Punjabi Jatt clan, who as a child watches his parents brutally murdered by the rival Natt clan, before being adopted by a woman named Daani alongside her son, Mooda. Fast forward twenty-five years and Maula is a bitter, angry young man who spends his days in the fighting pits and his nights getting drunk and passing out in alleyways. Meanwhile, the Natt clan continues to terrorise the surrounding villages, while locked in a war of succession between Jeeva Natt's two sons, the sadistic Maakha and the bloodthirsty Noori, who wastes away in prison. Maula's life changes when an old friend of his father's arrives and hands him his family ancestral weapon, putting him on a path of justice and revenge...

The Legend Of Maula Jatt provides examples of:

  • Anyone Can Die: Oh yes. Most of the film, especially the final act, is a bloodbath, with Maakha, Mooda, Jeeva, Daro and Noori biting the dust.
  • Badass Boast: The film is chock-full of them, delivered in the aptly bombastic and colourful Punjabi language.
  • Big Brother Instinct: While it's unclear who's older, adopted brothers Maula and Mooda display this towards each other, with Mooda jumping into a fighting pit to defend the drunken and beaten Maula from a group of much bigger and stronger fighters.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: We see Maula and Mukhoo exchange shy smiles as children during class before their romance blossoms as adults.
  • The Dreaded: Noori's name is said to inspire terror in the hearts of even those who've never crossed his path. Maula himself quickly becomes this to the Natts.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Maula goes on one after Noori kills his brother and Noori retaliates with one of his own after he believes Maula killed his sister.
  • You Killed My Father: Maula is haunted by nightmares of his parents' murder and directs his rage towards their murderer, Jeeva Natt, and his clan.
