Colter and Team:
Colter Shaw
- Anti-Hero: Colter's job is locating and rescuing people, but does it for the reward money offered. Even if he goes the extra mile to personally perform the rescue, when he could easily leave it to the authorities.
- Consummate Professional: Colter takes pride in providing a fair service in exchange for the reward on offer. He'll go to great lengths and put himself in physical danger while refusing any up-front fees and not charging expenses. In exchange, he expects to be paid the full, promised amount promptly.
- Establishing Character Moment: We are introduced to Colter with him helping a heavily injured women lost out in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. He's polite, treats her injuries, jokes around with her, quickly realizes she has hypothermia from being out in the cold weather, and keeps her calm once she realizes her leg has been badly broken. This informs us that this is a pretty decent guy who knows a lot about finding people and surviving. Then once he gets her to safety, he politely asks her husband for the reward money that was promised.
- Nice Guy: Despite technically doing this for the money Colter really is a kind and caring individual who truly does care about helping his clients. He will insist on being paid but he will also put his life on the line to making sure their loved one is brought home safe and sound.
- Punch-Clock Hero: Subverted in that, while Colter is getting paid by the reward money, he does also really care about finding the missing person and bringing them home safely. However, once the job is done, he'll insist that his employer(s) immediately honor their financial agreement in full.
- Scarily Competent Tracker: Downplayed, Colter is a good survivalist and tracker who picks up good on details, including in people, but he still requires assistance in areas such as getting access to footage and online records of people to give him a more decent direction on where to look.

- Patricide: The Shaws suspected that he killed the father due to being the only person who tried to confront him after an incident at their cabin.
