• When Huanbi falls into the hands of Noble Lady Cao, Zhen Huan manipulates her, and by extension Cao and Consort Hua into thinking she is visiting the confined Meizhuang without permission. Hua storms over to Mei’s chamber and is promptly flat-footed in front of the emperor. Bonus points for Zhen Huan going to visit Mei after the fuss has died down and getting away with it.
• After the death of Yunli, Concubine Ning sets out to avenge him by poisoning the emperor, and she succeeds with the implicit approval of Zhen Huan.
