  • While Sun Wukong is a great fighter, what really makes the series shine (and funny) is when Wukong resorts to magical tricks instead of might to defeat his opponents:
    • Facing off against the three Demon Taoist Priests in the Kingdom of Chechi. Instead of exposing the demons and force them into submission right from the start, out of his own amusement he takes the longer route of toying with them instead. He subtly goaded the demons into contests with increasingly higher stakes, and resorted to trickery to get them killed at their own game.
    • Arguably his most elaborate trickery was when he faces off against the Golden and Silver Horned Kings. Outmatched due to the antagonists' use of powerful magical artefacts, Wukong outwits them instead. He gradually infiltrates their lair for more information. Even after he's repeatedly subdued by those magical artefacts, Wukong always escaped and systematically stole those artefacts and used them against the demons instead.
    • On a similar vein, Wukong couldn't defeat the demon who wielded a set of 3 powerful magical bells, so naturally his solution is (With Bajie's help) to engage in a long series of deception with the demon and steal the bells from him.
