Go To

Come back up to the starving people and we break the sorry news: only one seed. Still, they hold hope in this one seed. Yeah, good luck with that in such a barren landscape. One guy is at least grateful enough to hand us a Jetbike Key to get us past the next Broken Bridge.

There are some Abandoned Sewers near us on the world map, but there's no much point in going there. Mostly because I don't feel like it. Instead, we go to Site 32, the only way to the next Dome.

Thankfully, there are no monsters here, just the jetbike. Out of nowhere, a (non-evil and oddly humanoid) robot named Johnny challenges us to a race. It's a fairly standard kind of race, with three boosts activated by the B button. Due to the constant slingshot effect this race operates under, it's best to only use the boosts just before crossing the finish line so Johnny can't catch up in time. And so we leave Johnny, the kinda maybe cool robot dude. Too bad we will never see him again in this game or next in any form whatsoever.

Afterwards, we find ourselves on the other side of Site 32. There's a Derelict Factory, but this time the game outright forbids us from going far inside it, forcing us to go to Proto Dome.

After an incredibly short bit of fighting robots, we come to an unmoving shell of a bot. It looks very different from the other robots so it is obviously very important. Then, ina scene so absolutely amazing that it is rendered in animation, Tusca fixes a robot from the far future using only a screwdriver. The robot awakens, and will not be attacking humans like all the others. After doing some formal robot things, Tusca asks what his (His? Okay, let's go with that.) name is. While he answers R-66Y, Marna asks Tempo to rename him, since she is an incredibly insensitive person who disregards names from the cultural traditions of others simply because she finds them too difficult to bother to remember.

Anyway, we're calling him Daioh, a name that represents how I still have Live A Live on the mind from playing it recently. The doors here don't work, but Daioh says he can work the factory to the north to give us power. But we will need one person to stay behind to open the door once the power comes and because this game has a three person active party limit. We're going with a party of Tempo, Marna, and Daioh, since healing techs are very good at this part of the game.

Daioh is just like you'd expect from a robot: very strong, very tough, and very, very slow. I never liked Mighty Glacier characters and as a result I never liked Daioh. Still, I promised myself to use each character when they first appear, so I'd use him now even if I Right now, he has Rocket Punch (a single-enemy attack that costs 1 MP) and Cure Beam (heals one ally for 2 MP). Maybe having two healers is a bit unneeded this early on, but Daioh's healing sucks anyway due to his pathetic magic stat, so Marna's still a good idea. Also, I never much liked using Tusca for some reason.

By the way, Daioh has no icon next to his menu picture. Just to let you know.

Notice anything familiar about Daioh's theme?
