Special episode: Party Select

Hello everyone.

Since the fourth wall is pretty weak in Celadon, what with the Developer's Room and all, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to ask you for your suggestions in how I play the rest of the game.

First off, We finally get our sixth member: An Eevee, from a person who "[Knows] everything about the world of Pokemon in your game boy". Now, Eevee can evolve in three different ways in first generation, and for best results he should be evolved right away. (Yes, it is a he. I've been using Pokemon Stadium 2 to check.)

Jolteon could essentially replace Pikachu gameplaywise in the late game, having better stats in every way. But Plotwise, we might not want to do that.

Vaporeon is a good Water Type pokemon, but we already have two of those, and we'll be getting many more.

Flareon is a decent Fire Type, but I don't have much to say about it.

Or I could save the 2100 pokeyen for an evolution stone and not use him at all.

  • Now, let's take a look at the gift Pokemon we will be getting in the future:

First off, there's a choice between Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee once we get into Saffron. I suppose either one of them would make a good Physical attacker, although Hitmonchan has a worse movepool. I like the Elemental Punches, but they aren't very good in Hitmonchan's hands.

Then there's Lapras, an Icy Water type we can get near the end of Silph Co. It has a good movepool, and can put together a reasonable moveset without relying on unique T Ms.

Then there's Omanyte, which will come in on Cinnabar, just before Blaine. That's the perfect time to get another Water type, and the Rock subtype will help a lot.

Aerodactyl looks cool, but that's about it, because it's movepool is pretty lacking. I can revive it at the same time as Omanyte.

  • And In the near future, here's what we can buy at the Rocket Game corner:

Abra: I'm almost sure to get this one, because I can find more than enough coins just by looking on the ground. And I have a spare Rare Candy so I can evolve it immediately. Its psychic typing could help a lot, although I'll never be able to fully evolve it.

Vulpix: I'm pretty sure this was where Purple got his. Vulpix is a pretty good Fire Type, although I'll have to be careful about when to evolve it (I won't have to worry about that with Charmeleon). Getting one could make the plot more interesting, though.

Wigglytuff: Yes. Apparently Team Rocket had plenty of Moon Stones lying around. Wigglytuff has no movepool by level up besides it's initial Sing, Disable, Defense Curl, and Doubleslap. But it can learn quite a few T Ms and H Ms. It's pretty expensive though...

Scyther: Now they get really expensive. Scyther is a powerful and fast Physical attacker, but I might have to come back for it.

Pinsir: Stronger but slower than Scyther, and it gets Critical Hits less often. I may have to come back for it.

Porygon: The grand prize. Unfortunately, it's stats are pretty poor. But if you guys insist...

  • Now, heres a list of obtainable Pokemon by Type:

Electric: Pikachu, Jolteon

Water: Gyarados, Blastoise, Vaporeon, Lapras, Omastar

Fire: Charizard, Ninetales, Flareon

Grass: Venusaur

Psychic: Kadabra

Misc Physical: Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Scyther, Pinser, Aerodactyl

Misc. Special: Wigglytuff, Porygon

Now, what final team should I be shooting for?

  • Finally, now that we have access to the Name Rater, we can give our teammates suitable names. I'm open to suggestions there too.

Well... this is disappointing. I seem to have lost my audience by going too far from the source material.

Well, if anyone has anything at all to say, I'm always open to suggestion or critique.
