It appears Kantos Kan has failed, as John arrives just in time to crash the wedding. Leaping through the window, he struggles with defending himself, and Dejah Thoris, without striking down Sab Than. Than Kosis, the king and no mean fighter, is dispatched, and Dejah and John are surrounded.

Tars Tarkas has his Big Damn Heroes moment, as he and fifty of his guards crash through the door. The nobility of Zodanga fight and die to the last man. Best yet, Sab Than got killed by someone else!
A search of the jails turns up Kantos Kan, who was captured before he could reach his target.

- According to That Other Wiki, Leonardo Da Vinci designed an early parachute, and someone used it soon after. Grant Morton apparently made the first parachute jump from an airplane in 1911.

Tars Tarkas leaves to direct the fighting, leaving John and Dejah to themselves. John credits his many accomplishments to The Power of Love, and asks her hand in marriage.
She accepts.
