Go To

Let's go to "Arena."

Ivanna and Belgger walk towards the shore.

"The Rana Sea is just beyond the horizon," Belgger says.

Ivanna walks forward. "Belgger, do you see something over there?"

He walks closer. "A boat...? With the flag of Felis. Is it Rictor's? No, couldn't be. Than who is it? What do they want?"

"The tie is ebbing," Ivanna tells him." We can get there by foot."

"Yes. Let's get a closer look."

They crouch behind some rocks. "Wait. Something's wrong," Belgger says.

A group is harassing a mermaid.

"The upper body of a woman and the lower body of a fish. Disgusting," the robed man sneers. "Is it true that you mermaids tempt men and drag them into the ocean to eat?"

"Aaaahhh... stop it...!" the mermaid shouts.

"Damiel, what are we going to do? Kill her?" the knight asks.

"Well, what should we do?" the robed man Damiel asks. "We haven't received orders from Commander Lasanti. Should we decide for ourselves?"

"Heheh," the bandit chuckles. "I've heard that meeting a mermaid will grant you immortality." Isn't that what those villagers from Mot BQ said?

The mermaid slithers away. "No...! Stay away!"

"She's just a child," Ivanna says. "She looks terrified."

"...I recognize those soldiers..." Belgger mutters. "We can't just leave her. Ivanna, let's rescue her and steal the boat so we can get to Rana." He emerges from the rock, Ivanna following. "Stop!" Belgger shouts. "Are you having fun taunting and innocent mermaid?!"

They turn toward him. "Ah, Belgger! You're alive?" the bandit shouts. "Or do you plan to follow Rictor around as a ghost?"

"Damiel, so that's what you guys really think, huh?"

"Eavesdropping? That's what I'd expect from you," Damiel sneers. "You want to know how we really feel? I find it rather annoying that you, the Commander's favorite, are still alive.

Soldier's emerge.

No map.

Our position. Fersen is the knight on the left, Allos is the one on the right. Orcus' position is pre-determined.

Music.

As the battle begins, it starts to rain.

"We're the only ones who know about this. Let's just kill him," the knight suggests.

"That's right," Damiel says. "According to the official records, Belgger is already dead!"

The mermaid is our guest.

An interesting mechanic in this game is that as time goes on, the water level will increase, and more land will be consumed by water. Then it will decrease, allowing more land to come up.

We have to protect the mermaid. This isn't as hard as protecting, say, Byan (UIAFLBSLBVILSZBDILVGBZSID) or Haborym from LUCT, but it can be a pain sometimes.

Just as most enemy spellcaster AI in this game, Damiel is stupid, going into the corner to get MP and only coming out when most of his allies are dead.

This battle is pretty easy. Our characters are more than a match for these guys.

Fersen kills the boss

Damiel: I lost to you... again...?

We get 1000 Goth and a Robe of the Wise.

Belgger and the mermaid chat.

"You'll be alright now. Return to your home," Belgger tells her.

Minerva says nothing. She dives into the sea. Her head reemerges before going down again.

I train everyone to level 12.

Rana Rana here I come, right back where I started from...

Orcus walks near the water. It's pretty stormy. "It doesn't look like we can continue here by boat."

A group of aquatic animals, including a mermaid, stand over us. "Vulgar humans!" the leader, Aerial, says. "For what reasons have you intruded upon our territory? I suggest you leave immediately if you want to live."

"We don't want to fight you. We just want to speak with your leader. Tell me where she is."

"You don't want to fight? Then, who did Minerva get hurt? To you, the welfare of others is insignificant in pursuit of your selfish ambitions. You are our enemies, and you have invaded our oceans. I am the strongest of my kind. Do you dare face me?!"

"Is there no way to avoid this?!"

Badass music commence! I change my mind, this is my favorite battle track in the game.

Our position. Allos is on the right, Fersen on the left.

Aerial pulls out her lance. "Come on! I'll never lose to you!"

A lot of this battle consists of traversing the huge expanse of water between you and Aerial. Positioning is key; the enemies aren't hindered by water, you are. So try and find any land you can.

This battle is pretty annoying. Aerial comes towards you, so I suggest you kill her without bothering with her mooks, LUCT style. She's not as tough as she claims; surrounding her will bring her down fairly quickly. The mermaids have a sleep spell, so watch out. The octopuses (octopi?) hit really hard. They have a special ability that hit Bruno for 103 hitpoints. So just last until you can kill Aerial.

We reduce her down to around 3 HP.

"Forgive me, Lady Chloerie..." Her mooks dissipate. But she's not actually dead.

We get 2200 Goth.

Next time, we'll continue the story at Rana.

I would help, but I'm not very good with editing.

You know, I'm really starting to wonder what Mermaids taste like. My first answer would be like salmon, but for all I know, it could be more akin to pork. But either way, I'm still not buying that immortality myth.
