* CrossDressingVoices: In Japanese, all of Pit's video game appearances are voiced by Creator/MinamiTakayama. He was voiced by Creator/LaniMinella in English in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' before being replaced by the male Antony Del Rio from ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' onwards.
* NoExportForYou:
** ''Of Myths and Monsters'', the second game in the series, was only released in the West. Japanese audiences would not receive the game until it was released on the UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS's UsefulNotes/VirtualConsole in 2012, almost 21 years later.
** ''Kid Icarus'' received a UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance port as part of the ''Famicom Mini'' series in Japan, which never released as part of the similar NES Classics series in Western regions.
* SequelGap: 21 years between ''Of Myths and Monsters'' (1991) and ''Uprising'' (2012). In the intro to ''Uprising'', Pit says "Sorry to keep you waiting!"
* SeriesHiatus: ''Kid Icarus'' was effectively a dead franchise until Pit was chosen as the newest throwback character for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'', which led to the series getting a new game in ''Uprising'' after 21 years, directed by ''Smash Bros.'' creator Creator/MasahiroSakurai. ''Uprising'' itself even {{lampshades}} that there probably won't be another game for another 21 years. Which could very well be the case, as while Sakurai has shown interest in ''Uprising'' getting a remake, he has shown no interest in making a sequel himself.
* ShortRunInPeru: ''Of Myths and Monsters'' was developed in Japan, but only released overseas. Interestingly, when the game was finally released on Virtual Console, it didn't have a Japanese title -- it's globally known as ''Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters''.
* ReferencedBy: Mario plays this game in ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie'' after a plumbing job goes horribly wrong. Pit saying "I'm finished!" is used as a gag.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The original game was meant to be a more serious take on Greek mythology, but Creator/YoshioSakamoto and other members of the game's staff suggested to Osawa that a more comedic take would help the game stand out.
** Prior to ''Uprising'', at least two major attempts were made to revive the franchise in the late 2000s for the UsefulNotes/{{Wii}}. One pitch was made by Creator/RetroStudios, as one of several made as production on ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime3Corruption'' was concluding, with Nintendo immediately rejecting it due to the [[https://youtu.be/s9HW_83sMTQ?si=jE9sMgLIKiU86xP2&t=551 lack of a core gameplay concept]]. The other was from ''VideoGame/RogueSquadron'' developers Factor 5, who spent a year prototyping a DarkerAndEdgier [[https://www.unseen64.net/2009/02/02/kid-icarus-wii-concept-proto/ sequel to the original games]] tentatively titled ''Icarus'', with Nintendo rejecting it after a proof-of-concept demonstration.
