1	A series following a group of damaged high school students struggling with feelings of love. The first two books tell the story of Lake Monroe and Keiran Masters. They met when they were children and Keiran became a rather dark version of a pigtail puller. At the beginning Keiran had been in juvie for a year for a crime he did not commit and thinks that Lake set him up. He is determined to get his revenge by 'ruining' her.

Mrs. Chambers is obsessed with appearances and worries more about money than her granddaughter's kidnapping, fails to emotionally support her daughter in a difficult time. Cale Chambers tried to force his son to marry a woman he does not care for.

Keiran and Keenan do not make it easy either, with their propensity to get into trouble. Lake's Aunt Carissa has not noticed that her niece has been horribly bullied for a decade. Willow's mother Mrs. Waters is rather indifferent to her children particularly her daughter in favor to looking after her husband, but she was impregnated and abandoned. Likely feels grateful to Mr. Waters for accepting her and another man's child.
