->"Welcome. I am Tallstar, and this is [=WindClan=]--a Clan that has known great suffering, but always survives. We are the fleet-footed warriors of the moor, the fastest Clan in the forest. We have struggled through terrible hardship, but we never give up. I know the other Clans sometimes see us as weak...but the truth is, they could not last a moon in the broad, open spaces we live in, chasing rabbits for prey. We are the closest Clan to [=StarClan=], spiritually and physically, and we always know our warrior ancestors are watching over us. That is what makes us strong. No matter what trials we must endure, [=WindClan=] will last forever."

Although initially introduced in ''Literature/WarriorCats'' as a Clan defeated and exiled by Brokenstar, [=WindClan=] has done more than enough to make up for this early bout of weakness. With their unmatched speed and relentless tactics, [=WindClan=] are invaluable allies and horrifying enemies. Although [=ThunderClan=] may consider themselves the Clan of Prophecy, [=WindClan=] has always been the Clan with the closest ties to the stars and the past. Not only was the first medicine cat (and finder of the Moonstone) a [=WindClan=] cat, four of the five Clan Founders once lived in [=WindClan=] territory. Although they were rather friendly in the first arc, under Onestar's leadership they grew quite aloof. Still, in the pinch, you can count on [=WindClan=] to have your back, if they're not tearing into it.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Despite their peaceful reputation, they can become a very dangerous enemy when provoked. In ''Forest of Secrets,'' they were ''enraged'' when it was revealed that [=ThunderClan=] was [[SaveTheVillain sheltering Brokentail,]] and joined [=ShadowClan=] in a surprise raid on the [=ThunderClan=] camp in an attempt to finish him off for good.
* ButtMonkey: They're often considered weak by the other Clans, due to the vulnerability that comes from living out in the open. At the beginning of the series, they've been chased out of their territory by [=ShadowClan=]. They also suffer the most when the Twolegs start to invade the forest at the beginning of ''The New Prophecy.''
* CowardlyLion: More often than not, [=WindClan=] cats are believed to be scrawny weaklings compared to the cats of other Clans due to their light frames and running abilities. However, [=WindClan=] has shown more times than one to be just as fierce as anyone else.
* TheDeterminator: Despite all the hardships they go through, they grit their teeth and keep on going.
-->'''Tallstar:''' No matter what trials we must endure, [=WindClan=] will last forever.
* DoYouTrustMe: They don't trust outsiders easily--or sometimes, even their own Clanmates.
-->'''Rock:''' It's not always easy to befriend a [=WindClan=] cat--they have become like the rabbits they chase: suspicious and quickly startled.
* TheExile:
** Before ''Into the Wild,'' Brokenstar and his [=ShadowClan=] warriors drive them out of their territory in a bid to take over the whole forest. They're brought back by Firestar and Graystripe.
** In ''The New Prophecy,'' they flee the forest along with the other Clans, when the Twolegs destroy it to make a new Thunderpath.
* ForcedToWatch: After taking control of [=ShadowClan=] and [=RiverClan=], Tigerstar organizes an attack on [=WindClan=]. Once the CurbStompBattle was over, he rounded up all the prisoners and forced them to watch as he brutally killed a young apprentice, as a "warning" as to what would happen if any of them tried to defy him again.
* FragileSpeedster: [=WindClan=] cats have to be small, lean, and fast to chase rabbits for food, so they're not [[MightyGlacier big and heavy]] like [=ThunderClan=] or [=RiverClan=].
* HufflepuffHouse: They somewhat serve as this as they are neither the designated villains like [=ShadowClan=], the protagonists like [=ThunderClan=], or the neutral softy like [=RiverClan=]. In fact they weren't even in the first book, made almost no appearance in the third and fourth books, and a minor one in the fifth book. Only in the second and sixth books are they important, otherwise before Starlight they were simply "[=ThunderClan=]'s allies", then Tallstar died, making them the focus one last time, but once Onestar took over they just became [=RiverClan=].
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: In times of crisis, their strategy is to form alliances with whatever Clan is strongest at the moment, in order to protect themselves.
-->'''Rock:''' Since Firestar came to the forest he has watched them join with [=RiverClan=], then [=ThunderClan=], and even fall under the thrall of [=ShadowClan=] when that seemed the only way to protect themselves against a worse attack. Whatever their enemies say, this farsightedness is a strength, and it is a mistake to think [=WindClan=] cats are ever truly loyal to any but their own Clan.
* InterserviceRivalry: ''Tallstar's Revenge'' reveals that there used to be one between tunnelers and moor-runners, when the former group felt there weren't enough tunneler apprentices being made to pass on their skills and that they were being underappreciated for their work.
* MartialPacifist: They have a reputation for being a peaceful Clan, unlikely to invade another Clan's territory for food or power. But they will fight hard to defend their territory and their Clanmates, just like any other Clan.
* MistakenForThief: In ''A Dangerous Path'' [=ThunderClan=] finds evidence of prey being killed on their territory. Bluestar assumes it's being stolen by [=WindClan=] (to the point of accusing them publicly at a Gathering), due to her paranoia/dementia and the fact that one particular example of the prey was the remains a rabbit found on that end of the territory. Fireheart knows that it's likely a dog catching the prey due to other evidence, and arranges for Bluestar to meet with [=WindClan=]'s leader to discuss it before she can lead an attack on them.
* PalsWithJesus: [=WindClan=] is believed to be the closest Clan to [=StarClan=], because they live on an open hill under the night sky. The first medicine cat[[note]]part of a medicine cat's duty is to receive and interpret messages from [=StarClan=][[/note]], Mothflight, was also of [=WindClan=].
* ParentalFavoritism: See above. According to Rock, [=StarClan=] has spared [=WindClan=] many times over, because of their special bond.
* ThemeNaming: Many [=WindClan=] cats are named after types of birds or have bird-related names. Examples include Dovestar, Graywing, Kestrelflight, Crowfeather, Eaglekit, Larkwing, Larksplash, Palebird, Hawkheart, Brindlewing, Reedfeather, and Featherpelt.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Their primary prey is rabbits. It's almost the only thing they eat; this becomes problematic in ''The New Prophecy'' when Twolegs start poisoning rabbits.
* TunnelKing: Uniquely among the Clans, [=WindClan=] has cats with special skills called tunnelers, who clear tunnels and memorize their paths so the Clan can use them to travel. Or at least they used to--after the death of Sandgorse in a tunnel collapse, Heatherstar sealed off the tunnels to prevent any more accidents.

* LeaderWannabe: Like the other founding leaders, tried to claim that she should rule the entire forest.

-> "This truly is the end of our brotherhood. I can't recognize you anymore as the beloved littermate I grew up with and traveled here with."

A legendary tactician who was once leader of [=WindClan=]. For more information, see his entry [[Characters/WarriorCatsDawnOfTheClans here.]]
----
* TheLeader: Of (wait for it) [=WindClan=].
* TheMagnificent: He was called Graywing ''the Wise''.
* ShroudedInMyth: He's a legendary cat whose exploits are the stuff of mysterious myths.
* TheStrategist: He developed seven battle tactics for [=WindClan=].

!!Swiftstar

The leader of [=WindClan=] when [=SkyClan=] was driven out.
----
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's rude, impatient and callous about [=SkyClan=]'s plight. But he's also thinking of his Clan's well-being and regrets his decision in the end.
* TheLeader: Of [=WindClan=] some 20 years before ''Into the Wild''.
* MustMakeAmends: [[spoiler:He apologizes to Cloudstar in the afterlife and gives the new leader of the restored [=SkyClan=] one of her nine lives.]]

!!Heatherstar

-> "A threat to kill? That is not how we fight, Hailstar."

The leader of [=WindClan=] in the time of the prequel Super Editions.
----
* AlmostDeadGuy: She gives a small speech to Talltail just before she dies.
* AscendedFangirl: In ''Tallstar's Revenge'', she gets to meet Mothflight, a historical figure that she really admired.
* BackFromTheDead: Has nine lives just like all the other Clan leaders.
* GetOut: What she says to Pinestar after his failed raid on her Clan, initiated by an omen of Goosefeather's.
-->'''Heatherstar''': This attack was unjust. [=StarClan=] would never have let you win. Take your wounded and leave.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Revealed to be the cause of her death in ''Tallstar's Revenge''. [[spoiler:She spent moons wracked with a terrible sickness before she finally died.]]
* IntroOnlyPointOfView: In ''Tallstar's Revenge'', the prologue is from Heatherstar's point of view, while the rest of the book is told from Tallstar's.
* TheLeader: She led [=WindClan=] during the prequel Super Edition times.
* MeaningfulName: Vicky thinks her warrior name was Heatherstep, because she was so light-pawed that she could walk over crunchy heather without making a sound.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Seals off the tunnels after [[spoiler:Sandgorse dies]] so that no other cat will have an accident there.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple She's the only one of the pre-''Into the Wild'' storyline leaders (Pinestar, Sunstar, Hailstar, Cedarstar, Raggedstar, and herself) to be a she-cat. However, she certainly isn't the ''only'' she-cat leader in the series.
* ThePowerOfLove: One of the lives she receives has the gift of the force of a mother's love. Daisytail, who gave the life to her, even says "There is no power stronger than love."
* WhatTheHellHero: At a Gathering, she calls out Pinestar for attacking [=WindClan=] and trying to destroy its medicine supplies seemingly for no reason.

!!Reedfeather
[[quoteright:128:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reedfeather_7901.bmp]]

->"Maybe there are other reasons for needing to visit our neighbors. War is not the only connection between us."

The deputy of [=WindClan=] before Tallstar.
----
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler:Demanding that his mate Fallowtail give him their kits to raise in [=WindClan=], without any concern for how losing her kits would make her feel.]]
* NumberTwo: He was one of the deputies under Heatherstar.
* SecretRelationship: [[spoiler:He had been in one with Fallowtail of [=RiverClan=].]]
* StarCrossedLovers: In ''Crookedstar's Promise'', it's revealed that [[spoiler:he was in a forbidden relationship with Fallowtail, which led to the birth of Graypool and Willowbreeze.]]
* TakingTheKids: In ''Crookedstar's Promise'', [[spoiler:he goes to [=RiverClan=] to take his kits from his mate, Fallowtail, so he can raise them himself in [=WindClan=].]]

!!Tallstar (Talltail)

-> "We all have our flaws, but we overcome them. And sometimes, it's our flaws that make us who we are."
[[quoteright:280:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/84333c70f25887053b88361a814a34aa.jpg]]

Leader of [=WindClan=] for the first and part of the second series, Tallstar was already elderly when introduced. He is a fair leader who prefers diplomacy to battle, and is always ready to accept help from others, particularly [=ThunderClan=], who saves him several times over the course of the series.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: He got his own Super Edition titled ''Tallstar's Revenge''.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Tallstar never takes a mate, seems entirely uninterested in any she-cat, and has a very close and loving relationship with his best friend Jake. On top of this, WordOfGod has very carefully never confirmed nor denied whether the two were a couple. Vicky later confirmed that he was gay on Facebook.
* TheApprentice: To Dawnstripe.
* BreakTheCutie: When he was a kit, he was torn between pleasing his father by being a tunneler or doing what he wanted to do, becoming a moor runner. When Heatherstar chose for him to train as a moor runner, he was constantly bullied by Shrewclaw for not following expectations, and it caused tension between him and his father. Soon, some visitors come to [=WindClan=], and lead to the events that cause [[spoiler:his father's death.]] He becomes bitter, and this causes cats to shy away from him. When he decides that he wants to follow in his father's footsteps and become a tunneler, Heatherstar closes the tunnels. He leaves [=WindClan=] to seek his revenge, but finds a friend, and it takes saving the life of the cat he had wanted to kill to make him realize that revenge wasn't worth it.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Does this after his tunneling group nearly gets caught in a flood and his father still expects him to become a tunneler.
-->'''Sangorse''': But you saw how it was! Didn't you feel it? The excitement! The danger! You can't want to go back to running through heather after that.
-->'''Tallpaw''': Yes! Why don't you get it? Just because you love tunneling doesn't mean I do! I'm not you! I thought we were all going to ''die'' down there. I'm a moor runner, not a tunneler!
* CelibateHero: According to Kate, he never takes a mate.
* CoolBigBro: All four of his younger half-siblings, as kits, see him as this. He especially grows into it after returning from his journey and saving two of them from a hawk.
* CoolOldGuy: In the Original Series he's a strong leader for [=WindClan=] but he's also a firm friend of [=ThunderClan's=], making him one of the more sympathetic cats from other Clans. He's also one of the oldest cats in the Original Series, even older than Yellowfang.
* CynicismCatalyst: He fantasizes about (and almost goes through with) [[spoiler:killing Sparrow as he believes Sparrow was the cause of his father's death.]]
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His decision to make [[spoiler:Onewhisker the [=WindClan=] deputy on his deathbed, while very well-intentioned, definitely wasn't one of his wisest decisions as subsequent stories would show. Instead of bringing the two Clans together in friendship like he hoped, Onestar wound up constantly giving [=ThunderClan=] and Firestar the cold shoulder due [[TheChainsOfCommanding the post of leader prioritizing looking after [=WindClan=] itself rather than fostering external relations]]. This effectively drove the former best friends apart, making things ''worse'' between the two Clans instead. At least if Mudclaw was made leader, Onewhisker and Firestar would've remained friends.]]
* TheDitherer: He had trouble choosing whether to be a tunneler like his dad, to please him, or to be a moor-runner, which he actually wanted. [[spoiler:By the time he decided he wanted to be a tunneler, Heatherstar had decided to abolish the practice, leaving him, in his mind, unable to please his father.]]
* {{Forgiveness}}: [[spoiler:During his nine lives ceremony, Tallstar is given the life of forgiveness, allowing him to finally and truly be in peace.]]
* FormerTeenRebel: He is a diplomatic old ReasonableAuthorityFigure. When he gets ADayInTheLimelight in the form of a prequel from his perspective, he turns out to have been rebellious in his youth, criticizing his clan's traditions and [[TheRunaway running away from his Clan]] to find a life on his own, not to mention wanting to kill someone in revenge because he had convinced himself that cat had killed his father.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: [[spoiler:How he feels about making Onewhisker the new leader of [=WindClan=] instead of Mudclaw, his loyal deputy. Bluestar disagrees with him, pointing out the civil war that divided [=WindClan=] as a result of his actions, but Tallstar says that whatever the consequences, it could never be as bad as what would have happened if [[BloodKnight Mudclaw]] had become leader.]]
* InSeriesNickname: He has two. Reena calls him "Tall", while Shrewclaw calls him "Wormkit", "Wormpaw" or "Wormcat", depending on his current rank.
* ItsAllMyFault: He says this word-for-word in ''Tallstar's Revenge'' about Brackenwing's death; he thinks that if he mentioned smelling [=ShadowClan=] scent earlier then it wouldn't have happened.
* KingOnHisDeathbed: Is ill for quite a long time. Mudclaw looks forward to being leader, but when [[spoiler:Tallstar names Onewhisker his successor]], Mudclaw doesn't believe it, and thinks that some scheming has been going on behind his back.
* TheLeader: Of [=WindClan=].
* LikeASonToMe: ''Tallstar's Revenge'' reveals that [[spoiler:he always thought of Firestar like a son, because Firestar was the son of his best friend, Jake.]]
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: His father Sandgorse, like his kin before him, is proud to be a tunneler, in his case to the point of obsession. Tallstar, on the other hand, dreams of being a moor runner and outright tells his father that he doesn't want to be a tunneler (though he does have some natural aptitude when he tries).
-->'''Tallpaw''': Do you want me to tell Heatherstar I'd rather be a tunneler.
-->'''Sandgorse''': Is that what you want? Is it?
-->'''Tallpaw''': No.
* LostMyAppetite: As apprentices he is having a meal with his friend Barkface when Barkface starts talking enthusiastically about how he just learned how to treat infected wounds, and how he used it on an elder who had a nasty swollen tick bite. Tallpaw feels increasingly sick and no longer hungry at the descriptions and [[ChangeTheUncomfortableSubject tries to change the subject]].
* MeaningfulName: He was named for his long tail.
* TheMentor: To Deadfoot and Morningflower.
* PracticallyDifferentGenerations: He's this with his younger half-siblings Wrenkit, Flykit, Bristlekit and Rabbitkit, who were born after he became a warrior.
* PastExperienceNightmare: As an apprentice he was present when the tunnels collapsed, killing his father; he even nearly died himself trying to save him. Afterward, he has nightmares of being in the collapsing tunnels hearing his father call for help, sometimes dying before his very eyes.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's kind and compassionate, and prefers not to fight if it can be avoided.
* {{Revenge}}: Why else would his book be called ''Tallstar's Revenge''? The revenge he seeks is on [[spoiler:Sparrow, a cat that he blames for the death of his father Sandgorse.]]
* TheRunaway: Though unlike Crookedstar, who leaves without anyone's knowledge, Tallstar lets his Clan know he's leaving to find Sparrow.
* SoProudOfYou: A couple cats say this to him during his nine lives ceremony.
* StillTheLeader: Tallstar becomes so old and ill that his second-in-command, Mudclaw, makes most of the decisions for the Clan. With his dying breaths, Tallstar decides that he doesn't want Mudclaw to be the next leader, so since he's still leader, he has the authority to make Onewhisker his successor instead.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Black and white, like his mother Palebird.
* TellMeAboutMyFather: In ''Tallstar's Revenge'', he asks the elder Flailfoot to tell him about what Sandgorse was like as a tunneler.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After [[spoiler: his father dies in an accident]]. Tallpaw begins to despise rogues. He gets over it though.
* WellDoneSonGuy: After Tallstar was chosen to be a moor-runner, Sandgorse starts trying to pull him into tunneling at his best and ignoring him at his worse. So Tallstar tries to get him to be proud of him.
* YourTraditionIsNotMine: His family has always been tunnelers, and he knows that his father is eager to train him and patrol with him. Tallpaw dreams of being a moor-runner, however - which Heatherstar senses, and assigns him as - but Tallpaw can't help but feeling bad for disappointing his parents.

!!Deadfoot (Hopkit)
-> "It's okay; I don't mind! I'm going to be a warrior. My paw may be dead, but the rest of me is still alive."
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deadfoot_manga.png]]

Tallstar's deputy. Dies in the battle with [=BloodClan=], but not before Ashfoot is pregnant with his son, Crowfeather.
----
* TheApprentice: To Tallstar.
* CheerfulChild: When he was a kit and apprentice.
* HandicappedBadass: A loyal, capable and efficient deputy in spite of his crippled paw.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Believes this about his son, as he says that Crowfeather would make a good leader some day.
* MeaningfulRename: When he became an apprentice, Heatherstar gave him the name Deadpaw instead of Hoppaw.
* TheMentor: To Onestar.
* NamedAfterTheInjury: He was renamed Deadpaw at his apprentice ceremony because of [[AgonyOfTheFeet his twisted ("dead") front paw]].
* NumberTwo: He was Tallstar's deputy.
* OddFriendship: Downplayed, but he had one with Hawkheart. When he was Hopkit, he spent a lot of time in the medicine den while recovering from a bad infection that mangled his foot, and all of [=WindClan=] was surprised that the sharp-tongued medicine cat seemed more tolerant of Hopkit than he had been with other kits in the past.
* UnfortunateName: In the first series. But believe it or not, in ''Tallstar's Revenge'', he doesn't mind having his name changed from Hopkit to Deadpaw. In fact, he knows that even though his paw's "dead", the rest of him is still alive.

!!Mudclaw
->"But Tallstar, [=WindClan=] comes before everything else. We must protect what is ours."
[[quoteright:277:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4787308fbe92884f94c1e8b4617d7a84.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:277:[[labelnote:Click here]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mudclaw_8505.PNG[[/labelnote]] to see his appearance in the ''Ravenpaw's Path'' manga]]

A warrior of [=WindClan=] before being the deputy in ''The New Prophecy''. After Onewhisker becomes the leader instead of him, he gets angry and leads a rebellion against him. But the rebellion ended when a tree fell down and crushed him, making a path to get to Gatherings. Currently living in [=StarClan=] despite what he did.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: The ''Winds of Change'' manga shows the events of ''Starlight'' from his point of view.
* AntiVillain: He may be an enemy of the protagonists, but he does have a point in that he was supposed to be leader. He's even let into [=StarClan=] because he believed that what he was doing was the right thing, and he didn't really do anything too evil.
* ArcVillain: He's the main antagonist of ''Starlight'', but has no impact on the rest on the series.
* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: Is defined by his extreme loyalty to [=WindClan=], and ends up launching a coup against his own Clanmates while believing he's doing it out of that same loyalty.
* BloodKnight: He loves fighting, which is one of the reasons Tallstar believes he will make a poor leader.
* CainAndAbel: Though Mudclaw and Tornear were close as littermates, [[spoiler:''Winds of Change'' reveals that they came face-to-face and fought each other during the [=WindClan=] rebellion. Mudclaw fought against Onewhisker, while Tornear fought in Onewhisker's defense.]]
* ClashingCousins: While their kinship was never discussed, cousins Mudclaw and Onewhisker turned into enemies in a fight for succession. It was rather one-sided on Mudclaw's part, as he was furious about having his deputyship revoked in favor of Onewhisker just seconds before Tallstar died, making Onewhisker the [=WindClan=] leader over him. This led to Mudclaw and several other warriors among three Clans rebelling and trying to kill Onewhisker before he could officially become the leader.
* CommanderContrarian: Much feistier than his leader Tallstar, and doesn't keep his opinions to himself.
* TheDragon: In ''Starlight'' he is Hawkfrost's dragon until he gets a literal [[DroppedABridgeOnHim bridge dropped on him]].
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: More like "Dropped A Tree On Him".
* HotBlooded: Much more eager to fight than Tallstar, which is why he gets booted as deputy.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He rebels against Onestar because he sees his leadership as just a way for a foreign Clan to take control over [=WindClan=], and yet he works with Hawkfrost, a [=RiverClan=] cat, to help with his plans even when Hawkfrost implies he wants the deputy position in [=WindClan=] in return. He is aware of the discrepancy but sees it as [[IDidWhatIHadToDo necessary to free [=WindClan=] from outside influence]].
* ImproperlyParanoid: Tends to distrust the other Clans and believe [=WindClan=] should rely on itself, leading to him being easily convinced (though admittedly under circumstances that would seem suspicious to everyone but the audience) that Onestar taking his place as leader is a conspiracy by Firestar to make Onestar a complacent puppet leader.
* InterimVillain: His role is to provide conflict for the story while the Tigerstar plot of ''The New Prophecy'' is still being set up in the background.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: [[spoiler:In ''Winds of Change'', he realizes that his rebellion have to give up the fight after seeing how badly outnumbered they are.]]
* LeaderWannabe: He respects Tallstar, but he also makes no secret of the fact that he's really looking forward to becoming Clan leader. It's one of the reasons that he's furious when Tallstar replaces him with Onewhisker as deputy.
* TheMentor: To Brushpaw, Webfoot and Crowfeather.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:He says this in his graphic novel upon realizing that his coup was wrong all along.]]
* NumberTwo: To Tallstar. However, he gets replaced as deputy just before Tallstar dies.
* PetTheDog: In ''The Darkest Hour,'' he bows his head and looks solemn after hearing about [[spoiler:Bluestar's death]].
* RapidFireNo: During his AssassinationAttempt on Onewhisker, Mudclaw thinks "No - no no no!" when he sees a [=ThunderClan=] patrol arrive to foil his plans.
* RiddleForTheAges: Did [=StarClan=] send the falling tree to kill him, or was it just a coincidence? Not even Rock knows, and he's all but omniscient.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: ''Winds of Change'' shows that Mudclaw and his littermate Tornear have near-identical markings compared to other tabbies.
* TooProudForLowlyWork: In ''Winds of Change'', Mudclaw - who would have been Clan leader by that point if not for a last-minute demotion - is particularly irritated about having to help build dens, grumbling about it being "glorified apprentice work."
* TragicHero: A character in a high position in his Clan with many qualities that make his Clanmates respect him as a loyal and heroic cat, but his flaw of xenophobia against the other Clans motivated by keeping his own Clan secure leads to Tallstar denying him leadership out of fear of the bloodshed he would lead them into, and then into him turning against Onestar out of a belief that he is an illegitimate leader installed by [=ThunderClan=] as a puppet, which ultimately leads to his defeat and death.
* UnwittingPawn: To Hawkfrost. He's basically being set up to give Hawkfrost more power and help him take over the Clans.
* WrongGenreSavvy: It is revealed in ''Winds of Change'' that from his point of view and some "advice" from Hawkfrost, he thinks that [[spoiler:Onewhisker being deputy is a plot by Firestar to assimilate [=WindClan=] into [=ThunderClan=] and install Onestar as a puppet. This was why he launched his rebellion before Onewhisker could get his nine lives and leadership, thinking that he is saving his Clan's independence. If only he stuck around to see [[{{Irony}} the actual results]] instead...]]

!!Onestar (Onewhisker)
->"[=ThunderClan=] must learn that they are not the most important Clan in the forest. You watch the suffering of others waiting to be begged for help like you belong to [=StarClan=]. We will not beg. We are warriors. We will fight for the prey we need and the territory we need to survive."

A friend of Firestar's, often meeting him and Graystripe at Gatherings. He was unexpectedly named as Tallstar's successor just prior to the latter's death, catapulting him to being leader of [=WindClan=]. Since then, he has been attempting to prove [=WindClan's=] independence and strength, primarily by distancing himself and his Clan with [=ThunderClan=].
----
* TheApprentice: To Deadfoot.
* ArcVillain: The main villain of ''Eclipse''. However, Sol and the Dark Forest are the villains of the rest of the ''Power of Three''/''Omen of the Stars'' storyline.
* BrotherSisterTeam: After becoming leader he names his sister Ashfoot as his deputy.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: The section about him in ''Cats of the Clans'' focuses on his difficulties upon becoming leader of [=WindClan=]: his struggles to gain respect of his Clan, and how he was forced to give up his long friendship with Firestar in order to focus on [=WindClan=].
* ADayInTheLimelight: He's getting a super edition in 2022, titled ''Onestar's Confession''.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: [[spoiler:After ''three arcs'' of being a back-and-forth antagonist-slash-ally, he finally sets himself firmly as an ally by drowning himself along with Darktail.]]
* FaceHeelTurn: Up until he became leader of [=WindClan=], he was fairly friendly and an ally of Firestar. After he became leader, not so much.
* HeavenSeeker: [[spoiler:It's revealed in ''Shattered Sky'' that he is terrified of going to the Dark Forest when he dies, leading him to hesitate on killing Darktail when he realizes that Darktail is his son. When loses his ninth life, he does end up going to [=StarClan=].]]
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: His antagonistic attitude after he becomes leader means he ends up as one of [=ThunderClan's=] enemies as often as their allies. [[spoiler: Settles on Face after revealing Darktail is his son and mutual kills him to save the Clans.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: He chides Crowfeather for letting his anger and bias cloud his judgment in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', which is fair...except he does the exact same thing. Onestar lets his complicated feelings towards [=ThunderClan=] and Firestar turn him into a distrustful, paranoid and antagonistic leader who [[PointyHairedBoss makes poor calls]] just to spite the other Clan.
* ItsAllMyFault: Onestar feels guilt for [[spoiler:Smoke's death and the way that Darktail turned out, feeling that it wouldn't have happened if he hadn’t rejected them.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: ''Majorly'' once he becomes leader. He's paranoid, distrusting, and fairly accusatory of the other Clans. Part of it is justified because he doesn't want [=WindClan=] to be seen as [=ThunderClan's=] hang-off, but he takes it to some fairly extreme levels, to the point it creates ''more'' conflict. One example? He tries to ''drive [=ThunderClan=] out'' in ''Eclipse'', which is something only ''[[MadeOfEvil Brokenstar]]'' has done.
* TheLeader: Of [=WindClan=] after ''Starlight''.
* LesserOfTwoEvils: Tallstar believes his decision to change his deputy from Mudclaw to Onewhisker before dying is this. While it caused a SuccessionCrisis, Tallstar still believes that is preferable to the bloodshed that would have happened if Mudclaw had become Mudstar and dragged [=WindClan=] into endless battles.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Practically defines this trope. Part of him does still want to be Firestar's friend, but he feels if he does it will weaken [=WindClan's=] image in the other Clan's eyes.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Once he catches a mere ''glimpse'' of Smoke in ''Onestar's Confession'', he can't stop fantasizing about her and inwardly gushing about how pretty she is. When he starts visiting Twolegplace to whip up stories to impress the kittypets, he makes sure to give her special attention and begins spending quality time with her, leading to them becoming mates.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: [[spoiler:Learns this from Darktail.]]
* MeaningfulName: [[WordOfGod Kate]] believes he was named after a whisker that is longer and whiter than the others.
* MilesGloriosus: As a young warrior, he made up stories in order to impress his kittypet mate Smoke, building himself up to be a fighter and hunter of legendary proportions. [[spoiler: This adds on to his reasoning for rejecting Smoke's request to join WindClan when she is expecting his kittens, as he didn't want her to find out that he's just "an ordinary warrior".]]
* TheMentor: To Whitetail and Gorsepaw.
* MutualKill: [[spoiler:With Darktail.]]
* NiceGuy: Originally compassionate and a good friend to Firestar. However, it changes when he becomes Clan leader.
* OffingTheOffspring: In ''Shattered Sky'', he does this to [[spoiler:Darktail.]]
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: His daughter with Whitetail, Galekit, died at birth. [[spoiler:He had other kits with Smoke who also died at birth.]]
* {{Patricide}}: [[spoiler:Is on the receiving end of this from Darktail.]]
* PointyHairedBoss: He's not exactly the best leader for [=WindClan=], as ''Crowfeather's Trial'' shows; Onestar's problem is that he refuses to let them be seen as weak and ''especially'' doesn't want anything to do with [=ThunderClan=]. So when his Clan is struggling against the stoats, he throws Bramblestar's offer of help back in his face, [[spoiler:attempts a plan that would get [=ThunderClan=] attacked by the stoats, botches that up, and gets his own Clan attacked even further. And even when Kestrelflight is running out of supplies because there are too many injured, Onestar ''still'' hesitates before asking for help!]] And that's to say nothing of his decisions outside that, like trying to drive [=ThunderClan=] out a la Brokenstar.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Tallstar elected him leader because he thought he'd be this. Up until ''The Last Hope''? Not so much. Some of his decisions were reasonable, such as aiding [=ThunderClan=] during the badger attack and arranging a daylight Gathering with the other leaders, but a lot of the time he let his grudge against [=ThunderClan=] influence his actions.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He gives a sharp one to Firestar in ''Eclipse'' against letting kittypets and mountain cats stay in the Clan. Lionblaze thinks this is unfair, for Firestar had given them a home.
* ReluctantRuler: He was given a very last-minute deputy appointment during Tallstar's death. In addition to infuriating the previous deputy Mudclaw, he was reluctant to lead, and only took the position at the insistence of Firestar and Brambleclaw. After becoming leader, he had to quickly change his tune in order to gain the respect of everyone.
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler: Was this with a kittypet named Smoke during his warrior days in the old forest. Their relationship resulted in Darktail, which later comes back to haunt Onestar.]]
* TeacherStudentRomance: He was Whitetail's mentor, but they become mates once she becomes a warrior and they have two daughters together: Heathertail and Galekit.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Does he ''ever''! His Jerkassitude started in ''Twilight'', and (besides helping Firestar and his Clan against the badgers and arranging a daylight Gathering with the other leaders) seems to be getting worse. As of ''The Last Hope'', however, he's getting better...only to swing ''right back'' in the ''A Vision of Shadows'' arc.[[spoiler: He swings back ''again'' after telling the Clans that he's actually Darktail's father and redeems himself by killing him, but dying in the process.]]
* UnexpectedSuccessor: So unexpected that half the Clan rebelled because of it.
* UnfitForGreatness: Is first introduced as an amiable, well-meaning friend of Firestar, always helping him out despite Onestar being from [=WindClan=] while Firestar is from [=ThunderClan=], and the two groups are sometimes at odds with each other. Right before the Clan's leader Tallstar dies, he unexpectedly names Onestar his successor over his deputy Mudclaw who was supposed to succeed him. Onestar is as shocked as everyone and doesn't even want him to be leader, though Firestar pressures him into it, and since the only witnesses to the change were Firestar, Onestar and another [=ThunderClan=] cat, Mudclaw suspects a conspiracy to install Firestar's loyal friend as a puppet leader and launches a failed coup to overthrow him. Onestar, shaken by the knowledge that some of his own Clanmates hate his friendship with Firestar, cuts ties with him to show his Clan is independent and increasingly makes a mess of his leadership from then on, culminating in launching an unprovoked invasion of [=ThunderClan=] just to prove he only has his own Clan's interests at heart.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:He finds a mate with a kittypet, then when she reveals she's pregnant and wants to live with him, he breaks up with her because he's afraid she'll die in Clan life. All but one of their kits end up dying on her return trip home, which she blames on Onestar. Their surviving son is raised to hate the Clans, and years later comes to get his vengeance.]] Basically, everything in ''A Vision of Shadows'' happens indirectly because of him.
* UnwittingPawn: In ''The Forgotten Warrior'', Sol shows up in [=ThunderClan=] for a visit and [[BigGood Firestar]] decides to let him stay for a bit, despite his evil acts. Later, when [[TheBigGuy Lionblaze]] is on patrol, Onestar shows up and tells the [=ThunderClan=] cats to drive out Sol, which they had already been planning to do. However, since Onestar told them to do it, doing so would make [=ThunderClan=] look subservient to [=WindClan=] and weaken it, so they are forced to ally with Sol against Onestar rather than driving Sol out.
* WalkingSpoiler: The fact that he [[spoiler:fathered Darktail, and has a surprisingly tragic backstory involving his mate wanting vengeance]] makes him this.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: He used to be Firestar's best friend in [=WindClan=]. But when Onewhisker became leader, he realized that the other Clans would think him weak if he depended too closely on an alliance with [=ThunderClan=]. He missed Firestar, but he did what he had to do in order to make himself respected as a leader. It's possibly because of this that he becomes more of a jerk in later books.
-->'''Rock:''' It was a hard lesson for Firestar, but harder for Onestar. He missed his [=ThunderClan=] friend, especially in the early days, when he struggled to convince himself he had any right to be [=WindClan's=] leader. At the time when he most needed an ally, he had to walk alone, and watch a long friendship ebb away.

* AlwaysWithYou: [[spoiler:She promises Crowfeather that her spirit will always be watching over him in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.]]
* TheApprentice: To Larksplash.
* BrotherSisterTeam: She becomes deputy under her brother Onestar.
* KilledOffscreen: In ''Bramblestar's Storm'', it's revealed [[spoiler:that she died during the battle with the Dark Forest.]]
* MamaBear: Is very distraught when her son Crowfeather leaves the Clan to be with Leafpool.
* NumberTwo: She's the Clan deputy.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Outlives Eaglekit and two unnamed kits.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: She is willing to talk things out with the [=ThunderClan=] cats in ''Sunrise''.
* SpiritAdvisor: [[spoiler:For her son, Crowfeather, during his super edition.]]

A [=WindClan=] warrior who succeeds Ashfoot as deputy in ''Bramblestar's Storm''. He formerly trained with the Dark Forest.
----
* TheApprentice: To Tornear.
* TheAtoner: Like all the Dark Forest trainees, he feels guilty over his time there, and is working to make up for it. His efforts are enough that Onestar makes him deputy.
* CharacterDevelopment: His first appearances are as a fiery apprentice and warrior who leaps into fights. He then goes to the Dark Forest to become stronger, before [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone reacting with horror when he learns of their true goals]]. After that, he mellows out and becomes a reliable deputy who [[HonorBeforeReason hesitates to go against his leader's orders]], [[spoiler:[[ToBeLawfulOrGood but eventually decides that he's willing to do it if necessary]]]], and proves himself thus far to be a kind and reasonable leader.
* HonorBeforeReason: In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', Crowfeather rips into Harespring a bit for going along with Onestar's orders, even though they're harmful to the Clan. Harespring admits he knows this, but says that it's his job as deputy to support their leader. ''Thunder and Shadow'' shows [[spoiler:that he grows out of this somewhat, deciding to go against Onestar's orders not to help [=ShadowClan=] because ''[=StarClan=]'' said it was okay.]]
* HotBlooded: In his early appearances, he was fiery and always hungry for a fight. However, he seems to have mellowed by ''A Vision of Shadows''.
* TheLeader: He becomes the new leader of [=WindClan=] after [[spoiler:Onestar dies.]]
* TheMentor: To Slightfoot.
* NiceGuy: Practically nobody seems to end up on his bad side, if such a thing exists; even cats who are angry at him for training in the Dark Forest, he's still kind to and just accepts their anger.
* NumberTwo: Becomes deputy of [=WindClan=] after [[spoiler:Ashfoot is killed fighting the Dark Forest.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: In ''Darkest Night'', he stands out as one of the most level-headed leaders, compared to Rowanstar's weakened spirit and Mistystar's paranoia. When [=ThunderClan's=] camp is [[spoiler:destroyed by a rockslide]], he immediately steps up and says Jayfeather and Alderheart can take whatever herbs they need from his territory. An especially refreshing attitude after his [[{{Jerkass}} predecessor]].
* SuperiorSuccessor: He is ''much'' more reasonable and easygoing than Onestar, and [=WindClan=] seems to be thriving under his leadership.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: He struggles with this a bit in ''Thunder and Shadow''. [[spoiler:Onestar has denied [=ShadowClan=] a herb that is vital to their survival, and while Harespring wants to go behind Onestar's back and give it to them, he's worried it's the wrong thing to do. 312A rude and prickly [=WindClan=] warrior, who was among the chosen cats to journey to Midnight and discover the Clans' new home. He is very disagreeable and obnoxious, but softens some after a relationship with Feathertail (he chose his warrior name in honor of her memory). Later, he has a short affair with Leafpool, and [[spoiler:unknowingly fathers Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and Hollyleaf]]. He currently has a mate and son in [=WindClan=], more to prove that he's loyal to the Clan than out of any real feelings, and is distancing himself from [=ThunderClan=].
----
* AbusiveParents: He's rather emotionally neglectful of his son, Breezepelt. [[spoiler:In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', he [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realizes this]] and strives to fix their relationship.]]
* AloofAlly: To Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, Squirrelflight, Feathertail, and Stormfur, initially. He warms up to them in ''Moonrise''.
* AmicableExes: [[spoiler:He and Nightcloud break up in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', but ultimately repair their relationship and become friends. He also comes around to being on good terms with Leafpool.]]
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: To Leafpool, after saving her from falling off a cliff.
-->"Is that what you think? Don't you know how I feel about you? And how much I hate myself for feeling that way about another cat so soon after Feathertail's death? I loved her, I really did! How can I love you too?"
* TheApprentice: To Mudclaw.
* AwfulWeddedLife: He and Nightcloud are not happy as mates; he only has a kit with her to prove his loyalty to [=WindClan=], and she is very much aware that he is still pining over Leafpool.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: The youngest cat who goes on the journey to find the sundrown place, along with Squirrelpaw (who wasn't supposed to be there).
* BerserkButton: Back when he was an apprentice, mentioning his size set him off.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: He's the brooding boy to both Feathertail and Leafpool's gentle girl.
* CharacterDevelopment: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' sees him finally experiencing some that isn't a backslide into jerkish behavior. He starts off an angry, bitter cat who refuses to accept blame, has been so wounded by love he doesn't want to try anymore, and lives in the past. By the end of it, he's accepted his own failings as a cat, mate and father, let go of his resentment, [[spoiler:repaired his relationships with Nightcloud and Breezepelt]], and become happier because he's moved on.
* ChickMagnet: See SerialRomeo. Let's see... Feathertail, Leafpool [[spoiler: who ends up having his kits]], and Nightcloud, who he also has a son with. ''Damn''.
* TheChosenOne: He was chosen by [=StarClan=] to find Midnight and save the Clans.
* CommanderContrarian: Was this during the first part of the journey in ''The New Prophecy'' - Brambleclaw even thought several times that Crowfeather argued just for the sake of disagreeing.
* ADayInTheLimelight: He has a super edition titled ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* DeadpanSnarker: It seems hardly a scene with him in it will go by without him making some snappish comment.
* DeathSeeker: In ''Dawn'', due to being distraught over Feathertail's death.
* TheDragAlong: He didn't want to come on the journey in ''Midnight'' since he was on the verge of becoming a warrior, and it takes a while to convince him to do it.
* EnragedByIdiocy: His snapping gets a lot worse when he thinks the other cat is saying or doing something stupid.
* FireForgedFriends: He becomes this with the party he was traveling with in ''The New Prophecy'' due to all they endured together. Him and Feathertail even fall in love with one another.
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' reveals that his hurt over Feathertail's death and his break-up with Leafpool have left him afraid to love, because it always causes him pain in the end. Overcoming this is the arc of his CharacterDevelopment.
* {{Foil}}: To Breezepelt, his own son. Both are prickly toms with severe emotional issues, but they deal with them in different ways. Crowfeather bottles up everything he feels, while Breezepelt wears his heart on his sleeve. Crowfeather reacts to being hurt with emotional withdrawal, while Breezepelt reacts with emotional outbursts.
* FreudianTrio: In ''The New Prophecy'' he and Squirrelflight were the Id to Brambleclaw and Stormfur's Ego and Leafpool, Feathertail and Tawnypelt's Superego.
* FromZeroToHero: In the second arc, he was an ordinary young cat who (along with five other cats) went on a quest to learn what the Clans must do when humans destroy their home. They end up saving all the Clans during this (as well as the Tribe on the way), and Crowfeather eventually ends up as [=WindClan=] deputy.
* HisHeartWillGoOn: Feathertail, the cat he loves, dies before him. He has to carry guilt over her death for the rest of his life.
* HotBlooded: He's pretty eager to fight on the journey to find Midnight. He's calmed down by the second half of ''The New Prophecy'', but is still prickly.
* IHaveNoSon: [[spoiler:When it is revealed to him that Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather are his (illegitimate) kits, he refuses to believe it, saying in front of the whole Gathering that his only son is Breezepelt. In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', he apologizes to them (or the living ones) for it.]]
* IRegretNothing: In ''The Last Hope'', he says that he doesn't regret anything he's done during the FinalBattle.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He lets Leafpool return to the Clans because he knows she won't be happy with him. In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', [[spoiler:he reaffirms to himself that he doesn't want what they had in the past anymore, just to be friends and for her to be happy.]]
* InTheBlood: He becomes deputy like both his father and mother had been at one point.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He goes back and forth between this and {{Jerkass}} a ''lot'', depending on where you are in the series and who he's with--he's nice to Feathertail and Leafpool, and slowly warms up to his friends from the journey, but he can also be so rude and abrasive that "the heart of gold part" seems to have disappeared. [[spoiler:He finally strikes a happy medium in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', still being grouchy, but in a good-natured way, and being kinder to his family.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: A downplayed example. In ''The Place of No Stars'', Crowfeather is much less of a {{Jerkass}} than he previously was, but, as mentioned above, is still grouchy and mistrustful to an extent. [[spoiler:After Squirrelflight is abducted by Ashfur]], Crowfeather suspects that she went with Ashfur ''willingly''. While this suspicion is wrong, Crowfeather ''does'' make a valid point when he notes how "troubled" Bramblestar and Squirrelflight's relationship has been over the years, and that Squirrelflight has done questionable things things to Bramblestar; defying him to help the Sisters and lying that Leafpool's kits were hers and his e.g.
* LikeASonToMe: How he feels about his apprentice Featherpaw in ''Crowfeather's Trial.'' He feels guilty about it because he has a better relationship with her than his own son, Breezepelt.
* LookalikeLovers: His third mate, Nightcloud, is a black cat like him, and they have a black-furred son, Breezepelt.
* LoveConfession: At the end of ''Starlight'' he saves Leafpool's life and then confesses that he's loved her for a while.
* LoveHurts: Oh, does it ever. [[spoiler:First he falls in love with Feathertail, then she dies saving the Tribe cats from Sharptooth the mountain lion. Then he falls in love with Leafpool, who he can't be with because she's a [=ThunderClan=] medicine cat. They run off together, but they end up having to go back after Leafpool realizes she can't abandon her Clan, separating them for good. He takes Nightcloud as his mate, who he doesn't love, to prove his loyalty to [=WindClan=], while he's still in love with Leafpool but knows they can't be together]]. ''Crowfeather's Trial'' actually reveals that he's been hurt by love so much, he doesn't want to risk it anymore.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: [[spoiler:Learns this from Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and Hollyleaf.]]
* MarriageOfConvenience: His and Nightcloud's relationship has been described by the authors as one: he knew that with a mate and kits he'd be trusted more by his Clan again, and Nightcloud figured that he was a strong young cat that was going to be "going places".
* MayDecemberRomance: They the two don't become an official couple, Feathertail was a warrior and Crowpaw was an apprentice when they began to become infatuated with each other.
* MeaningfulName:
** His pelt is as black as crow feathers. Invoked with the -feather suffix, which he chose as his warrior name to honor Feathertail's memory.
** Crows are also symbols of bad luck, and poor Crowfeather has had a rather unlucky life. Especially when it comes to love.
* TheMentor: To Heathertail, Featherpelt and Fernstripe.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has several moments like these throughout ''Crowfeather's Trial'', when he realizes his screw-ups as a mate and father.
* TheNapoleon: When he was younger, being the smallest of the chosen cats ([[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and Squirrelpaw and Stormfur]]) with the biggest temper, particularly if his size was brought up.
* NeverMyFault: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' shows that Crowfeather ''honestly doesn't get'' why Nightcloud would be mad at him, even though he outright admits he was just using her. He's also disdainful of Breezepelt and wonders why he ended up evil, ignoring that ''maybe'' him being a neglectful father played a part in it. Part of the crux of his CharacterDevelopment is growing out of this.
* NoSocialSkills: He's very awkward when it comes to showing that he cares. His Special Edition has him wanting to reach out to Nightcloud and Breezepelt multiple times, but not being sure how.
* NotAfraidToDie: After Brambleclaw stops Crowpaw from needlessly risking his life in ''Dawn'', Crowpaw snarls that he's not afraid of joining [[{{Heaven}} StarClan]] at that at least Feathertail would be waiting for him.
* NumberTwo: He is the new deputy of [=WindClan=] under Harestar.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:Outlives his daughter, Hollyleaf.]] He also had a kit who was stillborn and another who died right after birth.
* ParentalFavoritism: Does it without even knowing [[spoiler:that he has multiple kits.]] [[spoiler:Until ''Crowfeather's Trial'', at least. There, he apologizes to all his sons and offers to try and mend their relationships. Breezepelt accepts, Lionblaze turns down a father-son relationship but forgives him, and Jayfeather refuses entirely.]]
* PrecociousCrush: He was head over heels infatuated with Feathertail during ''The New Prophecy'' arc. He takes her death the hardest and mourns her even years later.
* RescueRomance: He admits he loves Leafpool after saving her from falling off a cliff at the end of ''Starlight''.
* SecretRelationship: With Leafpool in ''The New Prophecy'', due to being from different Clans and Leafpool being a medicine cat.
* SerialRomeo: Three mates. Three! That's Willowpelt levels of opposite-sex snatching! He also ends up fathering two litters of kits between the last two.
* ShipperOnDeck: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' shows that he's pretty pleased about Breezepelt and Heathertail ending up together.
* SneakyDeparture:
** ''The New Prophecy'' begins with Crowfeather and a cat from each Clan getting an omen telling them that they need to go on a journey far away from the Clans. Since they can't let their Clanmates in on this, they have to sneak away from the Clans and meet up together for the journey.
** In ''Twilight'', Leafpool and Crowfeather sneak away from their Clans to meet up, and eventually run away with each other. Since they didn't tell anyone, their Clans each think that they went to the other Clan.
* SoleSurvivor: He was the only one of his litter to survive kithood.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Feathertail. Both of them are from separate Clans, but become close in their journey for a new home. [[spoiler:When they finally [[CannotSpitItOut confess their love for each other]], Feathertail is killed shortly afterwards in a HeroicSacrifice.]]
** Then with Leafpool: not only are they in different Clans, but Leafpool is also a medicine cat. [[spoiler:They run off together, but ultimately Leafpool realizes that her heart truly belongs with her Clan and her calling as a medicine cat.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He has black fur, like his son Breezepelt [[spoiler:and his daughter Hollyleaf.]] His own father, Deadfoot, also had black fur.
* SugarAndIcePersonality:
** Deconstructed. He comes off as cold and heartless to most of the world, except for Feathertail, and later, Leafpool. Both are his [[LoveInterest Love Interests]], and his relationships with both end badly, and he becomes a jerk for it. He doesn't show love to his son (who later turns evil directly because of Crowfeather's neglect) and makes it blatantly clear to Nightcloud that he only took her as his mate to make [=WindClan=] trust him again. And because of emotional and legal shenanigans, he breaks up with Leafpool and treats her like crap every time they meet, openly despising her [[spoiler:and disowning the children he had with her]]. Also, Feathertail dies- ironically, urging him with her last breath to ''not'' use her death as a further excuse to close out the world.
** Then reconstructed in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', wherein he realizes how damaging his ways of withholding love and treating his family terribly is. He then takes steps to fix this attitude--he's still snappish, but instead of being that way to ''everyone'', it's only to cats he doesn't like, and he's warm to the ones he does.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Towards the group in ''The New Prophecy''. At least, at first. Especially towards Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw.
* ThemeNaming: He and his (half?)-brother Eaglekit are both named after birds.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After his break-up with Leafpool, his good side disappears almost completely, but...
* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler:His CharacterDevelopment in ''Crowfeather's Trial'' sees him letting go of his anger and becoming a better cat.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: A male example. He is usually constantly angry and foul-mouthed but had a hidden side of friendliness with his first love Feathertail and later Leafpool. Crowfeather also showed this with Tawnypelt, Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, and Stormfur to a lesser degree, who he grew friendship bonds with eventually. However, seeing Crowfeather's nice side is very rare.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: Had this with Leafpool during ''Starlight'' before Crowfeather confesses his feelings for her at the end of the book.

The first ever medicine cat. Ditzy and daydreaming, she often wandered around gathering herbs and forgetting her warrior duties. When her actions nearly cause the Clan deputy (the leader's mate, no less) to be killed, she is driven out of [=WindClan=], but [=StarClan=] visits her and tell her she has a different role to play in the Clan.

She is the star of the 2015 Super Edition, ''Mothflight's Vision''.
----

* TheChosenOne: She was chosen by [=StarClan=] to be the first medicine cat.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Often distracted by herbs.
* TheExile: She gets driven out of [=WindClan=] for accidentally almost getting the deputy run over by a car. But after she has a dream of being a medicine cat, Wind let's her come back.
* GeniusDitz: She is easily distracted, but is a master of herbs.

A [=WindClan=] medicine cat who used to be a warrior. Although many fans believe [[spoiler:[[RonTheDeathEater he resides in the Place of No Stars]]]], WordOfGod says this is not the case.
----
* TheApprentice: To Chiveclaw.
* CombatMedic: Due to being a warrior before a medicine cat.
* ChildHater: It's mentioned in ''Tallstar's Revenge'' that he doesn't like kits at all.
* GenderBender: Was called a she-cat on the prologue of ''Yellowfang's Secret''. Subverted because that was only for the preview in ''Enter The Clans''.
* GoodIsNotNice: While he is hot-tempered and his default mood seems to be foul, Hawkheart is a diligent medicine cat with significant skill who has helped his Clanmates for several years.
* TheMedic: He's a medicine cat. What do you expect?
* TheMentor: To Barkface.
* NiceGuy: To Yellowfang in ''Yellowfang's Secret''.
* OddFriendship: Downplayed, but he had one with Deadfoot back when he was a kitten named Hopkit that was recovering from a septic infection that left one of his paws crippled. Hawkheart was stated to be irritable and was not fond of kits, but he seemed to be more patient with Hopkit.
* SeriesContinuityError: Though he was already established to have been a warrior turned medicine cat, as well as already a medicine cat by the time Heatherstar became leader, in ''Goosefeather's Curse'' he's shown as a medicine cat apprentice, stated to have become one when he turned 6 moons old. Also, Heatherstar is already leader.
* WhatTheHellHero: Calls out the [=ThunderClan=] cats for attacking [=WindClan=] on the word of Goosefeather.

The medicine cat of [=WindClan=] for the first three arcs. Not much is known about him. He dies during the TimeSkip between ''Power of Three'' and ''Omen of the Stars''.
----
* TheApprentice: To Hawkheart.
* CelibateHero: Medicine cats aren't allowed to take mates.
* ChocolateBaby: He and his brother are both dark brown cats with two ginger parents.
* CoolOldGuy: According to ''Tallstar's Revenge'', he's a little bit older than Tallstar making him quite elderly when ''The New Prophecy'' rolls around.
* GrumpyOldMan: Behaves like such during Mothwing's apprentice journey to the Moonstone, grumbling that apprentices have no stamina when Leafpaw requests to rest (for Cinderpelt's sake).
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Is one of Tallstar's closest friends.
* TheMedic: He's [=WindClan=]'s medicine cat for three arcs.
* TheMentor: To Kestrelflight.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Medicine cat is an important position in the Clans, but we barely know anything about him. He becomes much more important during ''Tallstar's Revenge''.

----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Seems to idolize Jayfeather to unhealthy levels and isn't surprised when Jayfeather appears in his dreams.
* TheApprentice: To Barkface.
* CelibateHero: Medicine cats aren't allowed to have mates.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Often has his head in the clouds.
* GenkiBoy: Usually energetic and sweet.
* GoodIsDumb: He's always nice, but not that clever.
* IdiotHero: And he's the medicine cat!
* TheMedic: To [=WindClan=], after his mentor Barkface dies.
* TheMentor: To Whistlepaw.
* YoungAndInCharge: He's pretty young to be in charge of the spiritual part of [=WindClan=] life. This is even discussed in ''The Last Hope''.

An ancient [=WindClan=] warrior who was Webfoot's distant ancestor.
----
* CaughtInASnare: During the story Webfoot tells us in ''"Battle of the Clans''" he gets caught in a net meant for rabbits.
* InescapableNet: In ''Battles of the Clans'', Webfoot tells a story about how his ancestor got chased through an old rabbit warren by some kind of terrier. He dashes out of one of the tunnels, only to get caught in a net and be at the mercy of the human and the dog.
* DishingOutDirt: He was a tunneler.

A tunneler of [=WindClan=] who is also Tallstar's father.
----
* AbusiveParents: Crossed into this territory at times, tying into SkewedPriorities. He is initially displeased with Tallpaw becoming a moor-runner apprentice instead of a tunneling apprentice, as it was a treasured family tradition. After he brings Tallpaw along on a tunneling expedition to show him what it's like and they nearly get caught in a flood, Tallpaw tells him to accept that he doesn't want to be a tunneler. Later, when Woollytail slips up and mentions a second tunnel, forcing Tallpaw to admit to Dawnstripe the tunnel flooded, leading her and Woollytail to report it to Heatherstar, Sandgorse assumes Tallpaw reported it, and when his son truthfully says he didn't, it prompts him to call his son a liar and a coward who was trying to ruin the experience for everyone, and then he flat out tells Tallpaw to stay away from him and the tunnels from there on out.
* BuriedAlive: [[spoiler:He is killed in a collapsing tunnel while trying to save Sparrow.]]
* DishingOutDirt: He's a tunneler for [=WindClan=], so it's pretty much his job.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Because Heatherstar calls off the tunneling, Sandgorse gets angry at Tallstar for fleeing out of the tunnels and pushes him away.
* FirstLove: For Palebird, who becomes mates with Woollytail after his death.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He actually died because he was holding back the tunnel so that Sparrow could get out, fully understanding that it would cause his death.]]
* JealousParent: He's angry that Tallstar is chosen to be a moor-runner instead of a tunneler like him and Palebird.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[spoiler:According to Woollytail, he really was proud of Tallstar being his own cat, but he couldn't ever express his feelings and ended up acting like a jerk to his son.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With his daughter, Finchkit. They are both ginger.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: [[spoiler:Flailfoot tells Tallstar that Sandgorse hated worms, and if he saw some while tunneling, he would send others ahead of him.]]

!!Woollytail

-> "[=WindClan=] must never be afraid to seek out new places to shelter and to hunt…"

A tunneler of [=WindClan=]. Becomes mates with Palebird after Sandgorse dies.
----
* DishingOutDirt: He's a tunneler, so that's what he does.
* TheRival: Very downplayed, but Tallstar claims he and Dawnstripe often bicker over who is best.
* SecondLove: For Palebird, after her first mate Sandgorse dies.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Downplayed, but he's the one who mentions the flooded gorge tunnel to Dawnstripe, leading to it being shut down and Sandgorse blaming Tallpaw and disowning him, which he didn't mean to happen.

!!Dawnstripe
-> "With this life I give you patience. Training the young takes kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. They are small gifts, but they will be rewarded many times."

Tallstar's mentor. Acts as sort of a mother figure to Tallstar.
----
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She was very kind to Tallstar.
* MamaBear: While not Tallstar's mother, she acts very concerned whenever Tallstar puts himself in any danger and is often comforting him.
* TheMentor: To Tallstar.
* ParentalSubstitute: Since his mother has postpartum depression and his father wanted him to be a tunneler, both Tallstar's parents are pretty distant. Dawnstripe acts as a second mother to him.
* TheRival: Extremely downplayed, but Tallstar claims she and Woollytail often bicker over who is best.
* SternTeacher: It doesn't stop her from being very sweet to Tallstar.

!!Shrewclaw
->"I know we were never friends, Wormcat. But loyalty isn't rooted in friendship. It's much stronger than that. Trust the code to lead you along the right path."

A warrior who was a few months older than Tallstar. He was loyal to his Clan, but he was always a bully to Tallstar.
----
* AgonizingStomachWound: He dies this way just like his mother Brackenwing did, while trying to avenge her death when [=ShadowClan=] attacks [=WindClan=].
* AndThisIsFor: When fighting the [=ShadowClan=] patrol toward the end ''Tallstar's Revenge'', he says to Cedarstar, "This is for my mother! Remember Brackenwing?"
* TheApprentice: To Hareflight.
* TheBully: Picks on Tallstar because he's going to be a tunneler instead of a moor runner. Even when Heatherstar makes Tallstar a moor runner, he still picks on him. Even Dawnstripe snaps that this has gone beyond teasing and that he should stop.
* ChocolateBaby: He and his brother are both dark brown cats with two ginger parents.
* DeerInTheHeadlights: At one point in ''Tallstar's Revenge'', he freezes in the path of a monster on the Thunderpath.
* DiesWideOpen: His former mentor gently closes his eyes for the last time.
* {{Jerkass}}: Mostly to Tallstar. He did show it a bit to other cats too - to Barkpaw for becoming a medicine cat apprentice, and to Reena when she and the other visitors first arrived.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: After appearing in [=StarClan=].
* KarmaHoudini: Dawnstripe and Hareflight got onto his case once about his bullying of Tallstar, but he mostly got away with it. Though it is thought that he must have regretted it after dying.
* KidsAreCruel: As a kit he constantly taunted Tallkit and called him names for being the son of two tunnelers. This continues into their apprenticeship.
* TheNicknamer: Throughout his life, he always called Tallstar either "Wormkit", "Wormpaw", and even "Wormcat". Believe it or not, the last time he ever calls him "Wormcat" was through approval of finally becoming the leader.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives a very nasty one to Tallstar, saying that he caused the deaths of his Clanmates and that no one in the Clan liked him. This causes Tallstar to thrash him.
* TheRival: To Tallstar.
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler:The Clan discovers after his death that Ryestalk is pregnant with his kits, and it gives them some solace. His sons are revealed to be Mudclaw and Tornear.]]

A senior warrior of [=WindClan=]. She joins the patrol in ''The Fourth Apprentice'' to free the water. She is Onestar's mate and the mother of Heathertail.
----
* TheApprentice: To Onestar.
* AscendedExtra: When she joins the water patrol.
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:Dies in between ''A Vision of Shadows'' and ''The Broken Code''.]]
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Her daughter and Heatherkit's sister, Galekit, dies shortly after birth from complications.
* TheMentor: To Breezepelt.
* ShipTease: Has one with Onestar when she shares his den. ''Onestar's Confession'' reveals that they canonically are mates.
* TeacherStudentRomance: She was Onestar's apprentice, but becomes his mate once she becomes a warrior and they have two daughters: Heathertail and Galekit.

!!Gorsepaw
->"Mother told me about you, Fireheart. How you carried me, and everything."

Morningflower's son. He is first introduced in ''Fire and Ice''.
----
* TheApprentice: To Onestar.
* DeathOfAChild: [[spoiler:He is murdered by Tigerstar in ''The Darkest Hour'' just to send a message to Firestar and Tallstar.]]
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:Tigerstar kills him as a warning. His death was shown in ''Leopardstar's Honor''.]]
* MakeAnExampleOfThem: [[spoiler:In ''The Darkest Hour'', Tigerstar murders Gorsepaw, an innocent apprentice, in front of the rest of [=WindClan=]. Tallstar and Firestar know that Tigerstar did it to send a message to them on what to expect if they continue defying him.]]
* SacrificialLion: He is introduced as a kit in the second book of ''The Prophecies Begin'' and mentioned several times throughout the rest of the arc, [[spoiler:only to be killed by Tigerstar as an example of what will happen to those who do not join his new Clan.]]

!!Gorsetail
-> "Yeah, get back into your own territory, or we'll tear your fur off."

A senior warrior of [=WindClan=], mother of Sedgewhisker. She makes small but consistent appearances, getting a larger role in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
----
* AloofAlly: Towards Crowfeather and Breezepelt in ''Crowfeather's Trial''. She hates the latter, but is willing to work with them [[spoiler:to save Nightcloud.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: She's got a dry wit and often gets snarky remarks in.
-->'''Bramblestar:''' I'm not Firestar. We caught this fairly, so it belongs to us.
-->'''Gorsetail:''' Absolutely right, [[StealthInsult you're not]] [[ToughActToFollow Firestar.]]
* GenderBender: She's female, but has been called a male before.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: She's stern and sarcastic, but has a good heart. She helps Jayfeather out of a thornbush in ''Sunrise'' and scolds Nightcloud and Crouchpaw for calling him a murderer, saying that he's still a Clan cat. In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', while she's angry at and suspicious of Breezepelt, she's willing to work with him [[spoiler:to rescue Nightcloud]] because she genuinely respects Nightcloud.
* MamaBear: She was willing to go to war when her kits went missing.
* TheMentor: To Crouchfoot [[spoiler:and temporarily Hootwhisker]].
* NotSoStoic: She's hardly emotionless, but is pretty calm and collected. However, when her kits disappear during ''Dark River'', she's frantic.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted. There is a male [=WindClan=] cat named Gorsetail who appears in ''Dawn'' [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome and is never seen again]].
* StarCrossedLovers: The father of her kits is Beechfur, a [=RiverClan=] cat.
* SternTeacher: Shown to be this in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', where she snaps at and scolds [[spoiler:Hootpaw]] for his recklessness, but is dedicated to helping him be the best he can be.

-> "You should have more faith in our son, Crowfeather."

Crowfeather's third mate after Leafpool and Feathertail. Together they have a son named Breezepelt. Often ignored by Crowfeather.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: She tries to be loving towards Crowfeather, such as wishing him well on the journey in ''Outcast'', but he barely even pays her attention.
* AmicableExes: [[spoiler:She and Crowfeather fix their relationship, but agree that they make terrible mates and opt to stay as friends, in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.]]
* AscendedExtra: From a minor character in ''The New Prophecy'' to an important character in the Era of the Three. She also gets some real screentime in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Doesn't like seeing Leafpool around Crowfeather. [[spoiler:She lets go of this in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.]]
* FreudianExcuse: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' reveals that she and Crowfeather actually had more kits, but the entire litter except Breezepelt died. It's hard to blame her for being overprotective of her only remaining child, in that case.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: [[spoiler:The reason she considered staying a kittypet in ''Crowfeather's Trial''. Her Twolegs and fellow kittypet Pickle adored her whole-heartedly, no matter how angry she was, which was something she never felt as Crowfeather's mate.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She can be unpleasant about the whole LoveTriangle situation, but at heart, she still is a pretty good cat. She's actually affectionate to her son, Breezepelt (which is more than Crowfeather), and has shown compassion for enemy Clans several times, such as in ''River of Fire'' where she says she's sure [=WindClan=] would be happy to take the homeless [=RiverClan=] cats in.
* LookalikeLovers: She is a black cat, like Crowfeather.
* LovedByAll: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' shows she's a very well-respected warrior in [=WindClan=]. Even some of the other Clans respect her and [[spoiler:are saddened by her apparent death.]]
* MarriageOfConvenience: Her and Crowfeather's relationship has been described by the authors as one: Crowfeather knew that with a mate and kits he'd be trusted more by his Clan again, and she figured that he was a strong young cat that was going to be "going places". However, there are hints Nightcloud has tried to make the relationship work, to no avail.
* TheMentor: To Hootwhisker and Brindlewing.
* MyBelovedSmother: Towards Breezepelt. He actually appreciated it, since he felt unloved by his other parent, but it was still damaging for him. [[spoiler:''Crowfeather's Trial'' hints she's started taking steps back.]]
-->'''Rock:''' Nightcloud should trust her son to prove his own worth, without leaping in to defend him first.
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler:She goes missing, assumed to be dead, after the first encounter with the stoats in ''Crowfeather's Trial''. [[ForegoneConclusions Since this takes place before the sixth arc and she shows up there, she's alive, of course]].]]
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Had a kit who was stillborn and another who died right after birth.
* PyrrhicVictory: Of sorts. Although she, not Leafpool, gets to be Crowfeather's mate, he still loves Leafpool more than her.
* RomanticRunnerUp: Even though Crowfeather picked her as mate, it was not out of any romantic attachments. It's hard not to feel bad for her, being ''third''-best.
* ShipperOnDeck: Roots for Breezepelt/Heathertail.

[[caption-width-right:279:"Why would I leave the strongest Clan?"]]

Just as rude and obnoxious as his father, Crowfeather. Breezepelt is not well-liked by most cats. At least part of this is thought to be due to Crowfeather's coldness toward him. He despises [[spoiler:his half-siblings]] and is a minor antagonist of Omen of the Stars.
----
* AbusiveParents: Gets alternately ignored and criticized by his father Crowfeather, who didn't really want him and only took his mother as a mate to prove his loyalty to [=WindClan=]. [[spoiler:They fix their relationship in ''Crowfeather's Trial'' when Crowfeather apologizes for his failing as a father.]]
* TheApprentice: To Whitetail.
* AntagonisticOffspring: To Crowfeather, his father.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', he spends the whole book working to prove himself to his Clanmates and atone for his misdeeds. He even manages to save Lionblaze's life and apologize for trying to kill him.]]
* AxCrazy: After consorting with the Dark Forest, he becomes more and more violent.
* TheBerserker: His fighting style is reminiscent of this; he'll just ignore any and all injuries he gets until he's finished with his opponent. He needs to be forced to retreat or fall unconscious to stop.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: With Heathertail.
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:With his half-siblings Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf.]]
* CallingTheOldManOut: In ''The Last Hope'', he calls out Crowfeather for being a jerk. Crowfeather accepts the criticism, then chases him off anyway.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Heathertail, his long-time crush from apprenticehood.
* CommanderContrarian: LikeFatherLikeSon. Most of the time Breezepelt is abrasive for little to no reason.
* TheConfidant: Implied for Heathertail, to at least some extent. When Gorsetail's kits go missing, he's the only one she tells about the tunnels and asks for help.
* TheCorruptible: Starts out bitter and angry and only gets worse after starting to train the Dark Forest.
* DarkIsEvil: In ''Omen of the Stars''. He has black fur [[spoiler:and trained in the Dark Forest.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: One of the things he inherited from Crowfeather, besides looks and grumpiness, is his sharp tongue.
-->"Or did you bring us here to show us this boulder? Let me guess, it's a special [=StarClan=] rock and it's going to tell us where the kits are."
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Of TheHero, especially when held up against [[{{Foil}} the Three]]. As kits, Hollyleaf, Jayfeather and Lionblaze try to drive off a group of foxes; as an apprentice, Breezepelt rallies the other [=WindClan=] apprentices to drive off a group of dogs. Both heroic actions, but only Breezepaw faces consequences in the form of punishment. He has parental issues like a lot of ''Warriors'' protagonists, but the psychological and emotional damage from said issues have given him a sour attitude. Because of that, almost nobody wants to be around him. He longs to prove himself, but his Clan treats him as a nuisance when he tries. In all respects, Breezepelt ''is'' a protagonist, he's just unlucky enough to not get the narrative benefits of ''being'' the protagonist.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: His love for his mother and Heathertail is one of his most humanizing traits.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:He is repulsed when Ivypool [[DeaderThanDead kills Antpelt's spirit]].]]
* {{Foil}}:
** To Hollyleaf. They're both black cats who [[spoiler:have breakdowns after a secret related to their father is revealed, despise one of their parents for it, and attempt to (Breezepelt)/actually murder (Hollyleaf) a cat. Hollyleaf is able to overcome her hate and anger, and fights for the Clans when the Dark Forest battle comes; Breezepelt is swallowed up by his, and fights for the Dark Forest. Hollyleaf dies for her redemption, while Breezepelt lives and works for his.]]
** To Lionblaze. They're both rash, TheBerserker, train in the Dark Forest, and ambitious. They even have a crush on the same she-cat. But where Lionblaze is honored by his Clan for his adventures, Breezepelt is only treated with irritation by his. Lionblaze [[spoiler:eventually rejects the violent ways of the Dark Forest, while Breezepelt sinks deeper into them.]]
** To Jayfeather. They're both grumpy, sarcastic, and aloof around their Clanmates. They both have personal issues that embitter them--Jayfeather's is being blind, while Breezepelt's is his parents and sense of inferiority. However, Jayfeather is able to overcome his bitterness early in ''Power of Three'', while Breezepelt [[spoiler:only comes to term with his two arcs later]]. Jayfeather is a medicine cat, Breezepelt is a warrior. Jayfeather is treated with respect and fondness by his Clan, while Breezepelt is treated as an annoyance.
** Also to his own father.
* FreudianExcuse: He was the product of a loveless mating; his father only had him with his mother to prove his loyalty to [=WindClan=] and doesn't really care about him. The neglect he received from his father, as well as the revelation [[spoiler:of his half-siblings]] caused him to join the Dark Forest.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Deconstructed. He mentions that he doesn't think anyone in [=WindClan=] likes him, and save his mother and Heathertail, nobody seems to. It's just contributed to his many issues and prickly social skills.
* GoodIsNotSoft: [[spoiler:Post-HeelFaceTurn. Like his dad, he's one of the rebels who favors assassinating the impostor to end the problem then and there.]]
* HatesTheirParent: As a result of Crowfeather treating Breezepelt more like a TrophyChild than an actual son, all the while showing actual fatherly love to [[spoiler:his [=ThunderClan=] children Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather]], Breezepelt ''despised'' him. His constant ParentalNeglect led him to [[spoiler:join the Dark Forest and attempt to murder his half-siblings multiple times.]]
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: In ''Power of Three'', he was grudgingly on the side of the heroes; then he goes evil in ''Omen of the Stars''; and then [[spoiler:he works to redeem himself in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', fighting firmly for [=WindClan=] again.]]
* IAmNotMyFather: He strives to be as loyal as possible to [=WindClan=] so his Clanmates won't think he's like his father, who fell in love with the [=ThunderClan=] medicine cat [[spoiler:and had kits with her]].
-->'''Rock:''' He has heard the whispers about his father, the doubts that Crowfeather is truly loyal to [=WindClan=], and the rumor that he has a weakness beyond the borders. Breezepaw doesn’t know this weakness has a name, but he will not let his Clanmates think the same about him.
* [[ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe I Can't Believe A Girl Like You Would Notice Me]]: He admits he's amazed Heathertail wants to be with him in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* IgnoredEpiphany: He comes ''so'' close to turning good in ''The Fourth Apprentice'', but then he shrugs it off and goes evil again. [[spoiler:The epiphany sticks in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.]]
* InTheBlood: He's a dick like his father Crowfeather, but more so. There's a chance he's also the descendant of Shrewclaw, who was also a total jerk, but that's speculation.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Acts like a know-it-all, but is desperate for his father's validation. Jayfeather notices at least once that he boasts things that he doesn't really believe.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Constantly argues, complains, and criticizes, not to mention the attempted killings. However, he's very loving towards his mother and Heathertail, [[spoiler:and ''Crowfeather's Trial'' shows that he's genuinely brave and working to redeem himself.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: For pretty much any cat outside his Clan, which contributes to his jerk attitude. Especially notable with the Tribe, as while Breezepelt spends time teaching them (on his father's orders), he doesn't feel the need to help them more than necessary. [[spoiler:He gets better about this in ''Crowfeather's Trial.'']]
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Many of his personality traits are shared with his father; rude, sharp-tongued, contrarian, and with a SugarAndIcePersonality. He just comes with a lot more issues.
* LoveRedeems: [[spoiler:His love for and from Nightcloud, Heathertail, and eventually Crowfeather, plays a big role in why he overcomes his problems and becomes a loyal [=WindClan=] warrior once more.]]
* MamasBoy: He's very fond of his mother, probably because she's the only parent who showed him affection. When she [[spoiler:goes missing in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', he's alternately consumed with grief, rage, and fear for her.]]
* TheMentor: To Boulderfur.
* MotiveDecay: His reasons for joining the Dark Forest are rather inconsistent. First it's because he wanted revenge on his father [[spoiler:and half-siblings for their breaking of the warrior code]], then it's because he wants to destroy the warrior code and all the Clans, then it's because he needed to feel like some cat believed in him and thought the Dark Forest did.
* OfficialCouple: With Heathertail.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:His daughter Smokehaze dies in the climactic battle of ''Veil of Shadows''.]]
* OutOfFocus: Although he remains part of the core Dark Forest trio (Breezepelt, Tigerheart, and [[spoiler:Ivypool]]), the later books in ''Omen of the Stars'' give him a greatly decreased role.
* PerpetualFrowner: He almost always is described as having some kind of scowl or sulky look on his face.
* PetTheDog:
** In ''Dark River'', he's rather kind to Gorsetail's lost kits, promising Swallowkit he won't let her drown and giving up his contrarian attitude about accepting help from [=ThunderClan=] when he sees she's injured.
** He is mentioned to [[spoiler:shoot an apologetic look at Squirrelflight when he speaks in favor assassinating the impostor in ''Veil of Shadows'']].
** His cameo in ''Daisy's Kin'' is made of this trope, as he instantly becomes kind and cooperative once Alderheart explains they're crossing [=WindClan=] territory to try and save Smokey's kits. Him being a father of four daughters likely contributed this.
* PregnantHostage: Tries to hold Poppyfrost hostage in ''The Fourth Apprentice'', but Jayfeather and [[spoiler:Honeyfern]] ruin his plans.
* ReformedButRejected: [[spoiler:A driving point throughout ''Crowfeather's Trial''. He's been given a second chance by Onestar and does want to atone, but almost everyone in [=WindClan=] hates him. At the end of the book he's been forgiven by some cats, but there are still plenty who are (understandably) suspicious or unwilling to forgive.]]
* TheRival: To Jayfeather and Lionblaze. He perceives them as his greatest threat and only joined the Dark Forest to get revenge on them.
* RivalTurnedEvil: While he was a rival to Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and Hollyleaf in ''Power of Three'', they felt some sympathy for him and he was willing to work with them at times. By ''Omen of the Stars'', he has gone completely off the deep end since joining the Dark Forest.
* SingleTargetSexuality: He's had eyes for Heathertail and only Heathertail since they were apprentices.
* SmugSnake: He thinks that he's the best and everyone else is weak. Subverted in that [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex it's all an act]].
* SneakyDeparture: In ''Dark River'', a battle starts when three [=WindClan=] kits sneak away from their Clan to explore the tunnels they heard about and [=WindClan=] thinks they were kidnapped. In order to stop the battle, two separate groups composed on Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw, and Breezepaw and Heatherpaw sneak away to find the kits.
* SoleSurvivor: Of his litter, who all died during their kithoods.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He has a pure black pelt, like his mother Nightcloud, his father Crowfeather, and [[spoiler:his half-sister Hollyleaf]].
* SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome: He seemed to be jealous of [[spoiler:Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and Hollyleaf]], after learning they were his siblings.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Heathertail refers to him as one, saying he can be fun when he's having a good day. Sure enough, there are times he seem nicer or more light-hearted, especially around one of the few cats he loves; to everyone else, though, he's sour, snappish, and aloof.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** In ''Omen of the Stars'', he becomes a much greater threat than the weak, sniveling cat he was in ''Power of Three''. He even manages to briefly incapacitate [[spoiler:Lionblaze]] in ''The Last Hope''.
** In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', [[spoiler:he's the first cat to kill a stoat, and survives all the wounds he gets from constantly throwing himself into battle with them.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: He's still somewhat ornery, but after ''Crowfeather's Trial'', he is much improved in empathy and reasonableness. His cameo in ''Daisy's Kin'' shows it the best, as he immediately drops all hostilities once he realizes Daisy and co. are trying to save kits, asks if there's anything he can do to help, and quietly pulls Daisy aside to wish her luck.
* TragicVillain: There's no doubt Breezepelt has done some terrible things of his own free will. Yet, his father's constant emotional abuse, his mother's helicopter parenting, and his [[TheFriendNobodyLikes isolation]] from most of his Clan played a hefty part in why he turned out the way he did.
* TraumaButton: ''Crowfeather's Trial'' reveals he's terrified of the tunnels because he almost drowned in them as an apprentice.
* UndyingLoyalty: He is determined to be completely loyal to [=WindClan=], so the other cats will not think he is like his father.
-->'''Rock:''' He is what Onestar needs most: a fierce, brave warrior loyal to [=WindClan=] and with complete faith they can win every battle.
* VengeanceFeelsEmpty: [[spoiler:He declares that he's going to kill all the stoats to avenge his ([[NeverFoundTheBody assumed]]) dead mother. It doesn't help.]]
-->'''Breezepelt:''' [[spoiler:I killed one of them. And Nightcloud is still dead.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: The reveal of [[spoiler:his half-siblings]] is tied very much to his character arc, which itself goes through [[HeelFaceRevolvingDoor a lot of twists and turns]].
* WellDoneSonGuy: Implied in ''Eclipse'', though definitely not anymore.
-->'''Jayfeather:''' ''(thinking)'' He's waiting for his father to praise him.

Lionblaze's former best friend. The two of them once had a relationship and made up their own Clan, [=DarkClan=]. However, Lionblaze had to break it off so he could remain loyal to his Clan.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Whether or not she was lying in ''Eclipse'' when she tells Lionblaze that Sedgekit told her Clan about the tunnels, not her. There's nothing in the books to confirm it one way or the other, and even the Erins are undecided (Kate believes she lied, while Vicky thinks she told the truth).
* TheApprentice: To Crowfeather.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: With Breezepelt.
* TheChiefsDaughter: ''Onestar's Confession'' reveals that Onestar is her father.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Despite a brief bout of PuppyLove with Lionblaze, she ultimately becomes mates with Breezepelt, who she's been friends with since apprenticehood.
* CuriousAsAMonkey: She stumbled upon the tunnels by accident, but discovered where exactly they led through careful exploring.
* DeadpanSnarker: Emphasis on snarker. She's witty and enjoys exercising said wit.
-->"Don't worry, Weaselfur. We won't let the nasty stoats get you!"
* DemotedToExtra: She gets a much smaller role in ''Omen of the Stars''.
* TheGadfly:
** She's fairly cheeky and enjoys ribbing Breezepelt and Lionblaze (Breezepaw and Lionpaw, at the time) in ''The Sight'' and ''Dark River''. One example:
-->'''Heatherpaw:''' ''(upon seeing Lionpaw is worried about what might lurk in the tunnels)'' There might be all sorts of terrible creatures down there with big teeth and sharp claws--
** She still retains this trait in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', poking fun at her Clanmates, but never to the point of cruelty.
* GenkiGirl: She was really energetic in ''The Sight'' and ''Dark River''. She still maintains some of this energy in ''Crowfeather's Trial'', but has settled down a bit.
* GuileHero: Heathertail is shown to be quite clever, figuring out [[spoiler:why the stoats are white]] and coming up with an idea for sneaking across [=ThunderClan=] territory by rolling in their scent markers in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* TheMentor: To Furzepelt.
* NiceGirl: She remains friendly and sympathetic to cats from other clans (sans Lionblaze) even into ''Omen of the Stars''. She even lets Lionblaze steal catmint from [=WindClan=] territory despite her anger and hurt toward him. Even if she hates Lionblaze, she doesn't want innocent cats to suffer.
* OfficialCouple: With Breezepelt.
* OnlyFriend: She's probably the only friend in [=WindClan=] Breezepelt has. ''Crowfeather's Trial'' takes it a step further by showing she's still willing to hang out with him despite the 'serving the Dark Forest' thing.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:Her daughter Smokehaze dies in the climactic battle of ''Veil of Shadows''.]]
* PuppyLove: With Lionblaze in ''Dark River'', back when they were young apprentices. At first they become friends who sneak away to see each other at night, before realizing they have actual feelings for one another.
* RebelliousPrincess: She's Onestar's daughter, and she sneaks around breaking Clan rules as an apprentice.
* TheRival: She's Lionblaze's rival in the ''Power of Three'' arc.
* RomanticFalseLead: For Lionblaze.
* SecretlySelfish: She discovers the tunnels connecting [=WindClan=] and [=ThunderClan=], but chooses to keep them a secret from anyone but Lionblaze. Despite their potential as both an attack route and an escape route, she'd rather use them to meet up with Lionblaze. She pays for it when three [=WindClan=] kits fall in the tunnels and almost die.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's very kind, but don't mistake that for her being a pushover; she ''will'' verbally fight back if you anger her. More than several of her Clanmates receive a scolding from her for insinuating [[spoiler:Breezepelt would have murdered his own mother.]]
* SneakyDeparture: In ''Dark River'' Lionpaw and Heatherpaw are constantly sneaking away at night to meet each other. Later in the same book, after three [=WindClan=] kits go missing almost leading to a war between [=ThunderClan=] and [=WindClan=], two separate groups composed on Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw, and Breezepaw and Heatherpaw sneak away to find the kits.
* SoleSurvivor: Her sister died in kithood.
* StarCrossedLovers: To Lionblaze, since they're from different Clans. It ultimately doesn't work out.
* TheStrategist: She has a head for tactics and planning, as shown in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* TechnicolorEyes: She is named for her eyes, which one character comments are the color of heather. While the authors did have purple eyes in mind, this was changed to blue in later books since cats can't actually have purple eyes (unless possibly albino, which Heathertail is not.)
* TranquilFury: She holds a deep grudge and anger on Lionblaze for his terrible treatment of her, but generally keeps it restricted to cold glares.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: In ''The Sight'', Lionpaw takes special note of Heatherpaw's very pretty "heather-colored" eyes: he can't help but stare the first time they meet, and later on when he thinks about her he remembers her eyes.
* WomanScorned: She has a really intense, long-lasting hatred of Lionblaze. Considering his treatment of her post-break up--accusing her of something she might not have done, refusing to hear her side of the story, attacking her and her mentor, promising to be her enemy forever, and ''never apologizing'' for any of this--it's rather justified.

A warrior of [=WindClan=] who was lost in the tunnels as a kit. After being rescued, she told the [=WindClan=] warriors about the tunnels, thus causing the battle during Eclipse. Later, she joined the patrol to defeat the beavers and free the water. By the time of ''The Forgotten Warrior'', she's become one of Onestar's top advisers.
----
* TheApprentice: To Dewspots.
* AscendedExtra: Had an important role in ''The Fourth Apprentice'' when she joined the water patrol.
* GenderBender: She was called male throughout ''Dark River''.
* GenkiGirl: Very energetic and kind of scatterbrained. She ran away from the camp to explore as a kit in ''Dark River'', and during the patrol to find the beavers she was constantly getting her energy out by having mock fights with Tigerheart.
* MamaBear: She's Featherpelt's mother, and furious when she thinks Crowfeather's advice caused her daughter to run off recklessly into battle.

* TheApprentice: To Crowfeather.
* AscendedExtra: Despite being an IdenticalStranger to Feathertail, she doesn't have a role in ''A Vision of Shadows'', but gets some focus in ''Crowfeather's Trial''.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She becomes mates with Oatclaw, who she's known since they were apprentices.
* IdenticalStranger: Looks exactly the same as Feathertail, for some reason.
* JustAFleshWound: As seen in her character quote, she tries to pretend she's not badly injured, even as she's falling unconscious from blood loss.
* LeeroyJenkins: In ''Crowfeather's Trial'', she and the other apprentices sneak off to join the first battle with the stoats, despite being massively unprepared. She gets badly wounded for her trouble, but lives.
* NiceGirl: She's sweet and compassionate, even towards cats from enemy Clans. When Twigpaw falls into the stream on [=WindClan=]'s side, Featherpelt merely has her patrol tell Harestar what happened and escorts Twigpaw back to the [=ThunderClan=] camp, with a warning that some other cats might not have been so lenient.

* TheMentor: To Whistlepaw when she was training as a warrior apprentice.

* DishingOutDirt: Before becoming a queen, she was a tunneler.
* TheEeyore: Constantly morose and emotionally drained, though this is due to poor mental health.
* ParentsAsPeople: While her parenting is sub par at best, it's not because she doesn't love Tallstar or doesn't like motherhood; she is suffering from postpartum depression that is worsened by the death of Finchkit, ''then'' Sandgorse dies and only makes things harder for her. Thankfully, she finds happiness after becoming mates with Woollytail, having kits with him, and reconciling with Talltail after he returns from his journey.
* ParentalNeglect: But not by choice. Instead, it's confirmed that she's suffering from postnatal depression and suffers more after Finchkit dies.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She's black and white, like her son Tallstar.
* TraumaCongaLine: Loses her baby daughter, then her mate, and then her oldest kit runs off and is gone for well over a moon. Palebird certainly didn't have it easy.

->"But I want to fight!"

One of [=WindClan=]'s queens. During the events of ''Fire and Ice'', Firestar met her and helped her carry her son Gorsekit.
----
* TheApprentice: To Tallstar.
* BreakTheCutie: When [[spoiler:her son dies.]]
* EveryoneHasStandards: Although she is a loyal [=WindClan=] cat and will fight alongside her Clan, she can't bring herself to unsheathe her claws against Fireheart, who helped her carry her kit home, while her Clan and [=ShadowClan=] are attacking [=ThunderClan=] in retaliation for [[spoiler:sheltering Brokentail]].
* MadnessMantra: [[spoiler:Chants "Gorsepaw! Gorsepaw! Gorsepaw!" while fighting [=BloodClan=].]]
* MaternityCrisis: In ''Fire and Ice'', she is heavily pregnant and close to kitting at the time that [=WindClan=] is driven out of their territory by [=ShadowClan=]. She gives birth while the Clan is looking for a place to stay.
* MisplacedRetribution: The above mantra is directed at [[spoiler:[=BloodClan=] despite the fact that her son was killed in a [=TigerClan=] raid which the former Clan had nothing to do with.]]
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Not only did she have two stillborn kits, her son Gorsepaw [[spoiler:is killed by Tigerstar in front of her]], leaving her devastated.

!!Crowfur
->"Who asked your opinion? You're hardly more than a kit!"

A grouchy [=WindClan=] elder.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: According to WordOfGod, his mate is Larksplash and their kits are Webfoot, Whitetail, Gorsetail, and Nightcloud. This may have been retconned, though, since ''Onestar's Confession'' reveals Whitetail's mother to be Sorrelshine.
* CareerEndingInjury: He broke his ribs during a fight and retired to the elder's den early. This, too, may have been retconned.
* CoveredInScars: His flank is scarred from many battles.
* GrumpyOldMan: He snaps at Fireheart for speaking up during a Gathering. Patchpelt comments, "Take no notice of Crowfur. He'd find fault with [=StarClan=]."
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He has black fur like his [[RetCon supposed daughter Nightcloud and grandson Breezepelt]].
* WhenIWasYourAge: At a Gathering in ''Forest of Secrets'' he claims that young cats nowadays don't know what hardship is.

!!Adderkit

->"And the underfed tom beside you? Adderkit, yes, from [=WindClan=]. You were very young to go to [=StarClan=], weren't you?"

A deceased [=WindClan=] kit who appears in ''Cats of the Clans,'' listening to Rock's stories about the Clan cats with Mosskit and Blossomkit.
----
* CuriousAsAMonkey: Along with Mosskit and Blossomkit, he wanders away from [=StarClan=], into Rock's territory.
* DeathOfAChild: He was killed by an adder bite. Rock says he was "very young to go to [=StarClan=]".
* FantasticRacism: He shows some mild prejudice against Firestar for being born a kittypet.
* MeaningfulName: Named after the snake that bit him, implying that he died before his mother even had a chance to name him. Poor thing.
* PosthumousCharacter: Killed by an adder bite, and appears as a spirit in [=StarClan=].
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Yes, despite being a little kit, he shows fierce pride in his Clan, saying that [=WindClan=] warriors are the best of all.
* TheUnreveal: His appearance (pelt and eye color) are not described, other than the fact that he looks underfed.

!!Smallstar
->"Kits are the most special part of a Clan. They are the warriors who will defend their Clanmates in moons to come, the hunters who will find food even in the coldest leaf-bare, the cats who will have kits of their own to pass on everything they have learned. A Clan that has no kits might as well be dead."

An ancient cat who would have grown up to become leader of [=WindClan=], but drowned as a kit, along with his siblings. Their deaths led to the addition of a law that no warrior could refuse to help a kit in pain or danger, regardless of what Clan they were from.
----
* DeathbedPromotion: He was Smallkit at the time of his death, but when he goes to [=StarClan=], he became an adult cat and was renamed Smallstar in recognition of what he would have achieved if he had lived.
* DeathOfAChild: He was only a kit when he drowned, robbing him of his destiny.
* DueToTheDead: After Graywing realized that not trying to save him was wrong, she found his and his siblings' bodies washed up on the bank the next day and brought them to their home so they could be properly mourned and buried by their Clanmates.
* EveryoneHasStandards: When he visited Graywing in her dreams, she was afraid that he had come to harm [=RiverClan's=] kits in retribution for her not saving him. He assured her he would do no such thing.
* ThreadOfProphecySevered: He was destined to become [=WindClan=]'s leader, but fell into the river and drowned when he was a kit, along with his siblings.
