* HeroicBastard: The child’s parents were unmarried, and the child is kind to others no matter how hard their heart gets. Unfortunately the town insists on treating them like a BastardBastard.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: At the end of the game, if the child’s heart is hardened, they will reach this conclusion.

* TheCynic: If the player chooses, the parent can be played as a wary and distrusting person.
* FeaturelessProtagonist: We never learn the parent’s name, background, or gender. We only know that they’re Norwegian, single, and wanted a child.
* GoodIsDumb: When helping the child study for school, it’s possible for the parent to fail even basic questions.
* ParentsAsPeople: The parent, in their journal, at one point writes down that they aren’t entirely sure how to raise the child and wonders if it was selfish to adopt them at all.
