!!! Species: ''H. s. ultimorius''

'''Grandis'''. The leader of the bunch, who thinks everyone knows him well (at least to be fair, they should). He's noted as being the leader as dictated by Ultima and Dragora Galaxia, because whomever is the King of the Ultimorian Deities is the only known individual who can actually best Ultima and Dragora Galaxia in a fight, and never anyone else unless Grandis either gives up the throne, or somebody takes it from him by force. Grandis is known as "The Enforcer" as to why he's an Ultimorian Deity at all; his job is to intervene in situations in which one or more Ultimorian forces are at odds at each other should they pose too big of a threat for the universe. Originally, this job was to simply mock him, as until the recent era of {{The Multiverse}}, the Ultimorians were unable to leave their own native multiverse, but now that everyone is scattered across space and time, his role has an actual meaning again.

Grandis is an enigma of a character once you're in the know about any of the above information, or to anything of what is below. Being a character who is guaranteed to appear OnceAnEpisode will do that for you, even among his fellow Ultimorian Deities and his son, whom sometimes don't even get appearances as often as Grandis does. To date, Grandis is the first Ultimorian Deity who has finished his debut arc in terms of establishing his overall presence and character, but due to his lazy nature, he tends to give Ultima the primary leadership of the whole group unless Grandis has his hand forced otherwise. In such a situation, Grandis will be the one calling the shots. Oddly enough, Grandis ''does'' seem to call the shots a lot more often when he's in a role of leadership ''not'' of the Ultimorian Deities; why he's this inconsistent has yet to be cleared up, but it's already been established he's already an OxymoronicBeing due to the fact he's ThePigPen despite having a ObsessivelyOrganized attitude towards everything not related to himself.

Grandis' first two phase forms tend to be interchanged between each other in terms of which one is considered his "default". Pictured to the right on top is Phase 1 Grandis standing next to an empty armor of his Phase 4 form. Below those two is Phase 2 Grandis, appearing with much lengthier hair, a goatee, and being a very fat in appearance man. Phase 1 Grandis is for when Grandis needs to conserve as much energy as possible; making himself practically skeletal in the process of doing so. If Grandis has enough energy to sustain his presence for a very long time, he'll often times used a pseudo-Phase 1 form which heavily resembles his Phase 2 form; it simply isn't powered up to the full Phase 2 power proper. Not a whole lot changes in Grandis' arsenal between his Phase 1 to Phase 3 forms, but once he becomes Phase 4, that's when he pulls a LetsGetDangerous and decides to showcase how much power he has hidden within any given fic he appears in. If for whatever reason Grandis decides he needs ''more'' powerful, well, let's just put it this way; [[WhamLine you're]] [[PrecisionFStrike fucked]][[WhamLine , kiddo.]]

Meanwhile, even with ''Fanfic/CitadelOfTheHeart'' being declared a DeadFic, this is not the end for Grandis. Grandis, due to being Creator/MF217's AuthorAvatar, has appeared in virtually all of [=MF217=]'s other works and media he makes even long before ''Citadel of the Heart'' even came into being. Much like Chronicler and Mirror M, his page will continue to be updated accordingly, even when their first major day in the limelight has been canned.

!!! Tropes that apply to Grandis

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Tropes A to L]]

* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:Well kind of from AlcoholInducedIdiocy, but his first meeting with Chronicler in person does not go well, as in, he physically beats down Chronicler without holding back without making it clear that he was just testing Chronicler's Phase forms.]]
* AchillesHeel:
** SensoryOverload is the most obvious once you're familiar with the major weakness of his predator eye combined with an already heightened negative reaction to LoudOfWar with his {{UsefulNotes/Autism}}.
** His {{Omniscience}} often never truly works out for him to the point it's an {{Invoked}} InformedAttribute because while Grandis technically ''does'' have it, on the surface he's such a clueless moron in the common sense and social cues that he actively needs time to think before he can properly realize he already is more than aware of a certain subject or entity because of his {{Omniscience}}.
* Arcofatic: Apparently running for lengthy distances at high speeds doesn't count towards his "stamina" as he refers to his weakness as. He can also jump high, swim rather well, and if he had someone assist him in pulling it off beforehand, can actually maintain powered flight with his arms flailing alone. Problem with the latter is that he can't begin powered flight all by himself, and he's more than likely to simply use this as a means of a parachute more so than actual, legitimate flying.
* AlliterativeName: [[spoiler:Like the author himself, '''M'''artin '''M'''ollohan. According to himself he once believed his middle name also counted, until he learned it actually starts with a '''W'''.]]
* AlmightyJanitor: A ''very'' literal example; often times when Grandis is posing as a civilian, he's in some way or form a guy who works as a janitor or at least as a groundskeeper type of job. The {{Irony}} comes into play when you consider Grandis himself is ThePigPen type of cleanliness, and yet he is ObsessivelyOrganized about everything else except himself.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: According to Grandis himself, he's an albino, yet he otherwise looks like a normal white male. He states that had this not been the case, all of his skin would be burning red and his hair would be bright orange.
* AnIcePerson: Defaults to a Frost Breath when using his BreathWeapon attack, but if his anger gets the better of him in extreme situations, he swaps it out for Fire Breath.
* AnimalMotif: ''Dimetrodon''. See AscendedMeme below as to why, because he was originally considered a Ceratopsian up until then.
* AscendedExtra: During the duration of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' up to ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', he's in a more major role than he's normally supposed to have; in ''Truth and Ideals'' he doesn't appear until the very end and ultimately has a very small role as he always should, but ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', and ''Reflection Code'' are all part of a CharacterArc for Grandis that causes him to be featured in ADayInTheLimelight.
* AscendedMeme: Why his AnimalMotif is currently ''Dimetrodon'' pertains to an odd naming convention the author had while playing ''VideoGame/ARKSurvivalEvolved''; the author, every time he got one, would name his ''Dimetrodon'' tames after Grandis because of their natural air conditioning abilities, which are abilities [[spoiler:that heavily tie into how the Grandis armor functions as well as give massive hints to weak spots in the armor itself]]. Not helping matters into this is the fact an actual species of ''Dimetrodon'' is literally called ''[[ShapedLikeItself D. grandis]]''.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Had to kick Ultima and Dragora's asses to get the role he's in now. [[spoiler:When the two threaten to glass the ''Sword Art Online'' multiverse just to prevent EXODUS from escaping, Grandis doesn't waste time in proceeding to kick both of their asses again [[IronicEcho to remind them who is their one true king]].]]
* AuthorAvatar: Flat out confirmed by the author without any real attempts to hide it, but the behavior Grandis is known for is more of a heavily [[{{Flanderization}} Flanderized]] version of himself who behaves more violently, is a LargeHam who can most definitely speak for himself directly, and doesn't have any medical issues holding him down for the most part. [[spoiler:He appears to even be a much more ''[[PeoplePuppets literal]]'' version of this as implied by Chapter 18 of ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''.]]
* UsefulNotes/{{Autism}}: Has the condition by virtue of having his characterization being a {{Flanderized}} take on the author himself.
* BadassBoast:
--> ''*Various mafia members all have their guns pointed at Grandis*''
--> [[ImmuneToBullets Grandis:]] Lone man VS many guys with guns; where have I seen this before?
--> ''*Said mafia members proceed to do exactly as Grandis says*''
* BarredFromTheAfterlife: [[spoiler:Grandis is aware of this because his soul is eventually forced to go back into the realm of the living when he dies due to the fact he's permanently banished from the afterlife due to his troublesome nature having enraged the rulers of the afterlife, so he's effectively BlessedWithSuck in that he cannot truly stay dead; sure, he's technically a near completely different individual every time he comes back initially, he eventually and gradually has his mind shift back into what is considered normal for Grandis. Even 20 years after the death of one body in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', by the time ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' takes place, he has yet to fully recover his own true identity within his newer body.]]
* BashBrothers: He and Nanu share this dynamic in ''Truth and Ideals'' for what little amounts of time on-page the two have together. Nanu ends up developing some of Grandis' quirks later down the road as well for that matter.
* BerserkButton:
** Do NOT call talk down to him in terms of who he is and why he does what he does; he'll give you a ''very'' swift reminder as to ''why'' he's the King of the Ultimorian Deities.
** Do not poach endangered animals. He's been known to flat out maul people to near-death should they try and so much as poach or even sport hunt endangered animals. In fact, when Saroa attempts to provoke his numerous ferrets into attacking Japan's indigenous wildlife, that's the moment he finally stopped tolerating Saroa's presence and went in for the [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness kill]].
* BewareTheSillyOnes:
** Considering he's got the strength and endurance of Bowser to match up his seemingly ordinary human form, and the inconsistent levels of agility to boot as well, Grandis is more than capable of putting up a fight against his fellow Ultimorian Deities or the local natives of a given multiverse.
** [[spoiler:He'll gladly throw virtually every non-Ultrarian entity under the bus if it so much as benefits the greater good of the Ultimorian Deities; the fact he constantly delays actually doing so showcases he actually does genuinely care about everyone else, but is otherwise very hesitant about living up to his own Ultimorian pride.]]
* BigFun: When he's in a good mood and shows more whiter shades of morality.
* TheBigGuy: As one of the Ultimorian Deities he's considered this, but he's more TheMentor to anyone else or TheJuggernaut with his usual roles taken to the extremes.
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti:
** Sightings of Grandis prior to the 1900s had him perpetually in Phase 3 form as to try and hide his modern times mentality, which only caused him to contribute to the rumors and legends about Bigfoot and similar Cryptids. It's not out of the question that Grandis is the propagator of these legends, but when we eventually learn that [[spoiler:Grandis isn't the sole survivor of his species also dwelling on Earth at the same time]], that perhaps not all of them were directly influenced by Grandis. [[spoiler:And in an odd twist, the ''real'' BigfootSasquatchAndYeti are in turn revealed to be separate animals altogether in this SeriesFic.]]
** Sometimes lapses over into {{Wendigo}} territory especially in his rather borderline undead, cold temperature obsessed Phase 1 form.
* BizarreAlienBiology: [[spoiler:His natural habitat is in very high altitude, oxygen poor environments, where his lungs are naturally MinMaxed to be able to absorb the most energy from small amounts of oxygen as possible. Oxygen rich environments such as surface level Earth is actually dangerous for him, as he often has to refrain from breathing just to be able to avoid trying to take in too much oxygen at once. His own respiratory system will collapse on itself and cause Grandis to pass out if he inhales too much oxygen in one burst. His namesake armor's life-support is not designed with space in mind; while true, it can function in space, it is actually designed for Grandis when he's on the surface of an oxygen rich planet. Being placed in his armor after too much oxygen is absorbed has been noted to be able to heal him if he's ever able to safely get in before he collapses.]]
* BloodFromTheMouth: As a pure-blood Ultimorian, he displays just how much more brutal an Ultimorian can endure this trope and still survive. [[spoiler:After a gut punch through his armor by Chronicler, Grandis begins vomiting up blood into his life-support system and contaminating his frost breath as Phase 4, and by the time ''Truth and Ideals'' occurs, he's alive and well despite not having fully recovered from the attack.]]
* BodyHorror: His Phase 1 form looks more or less like a shrink-wrapped human, considering his skin hugs his bones for the most part, he lacks any form of lips to cover his teeth, and the fact his human nose is non-existent in this form in exchange for two mere nostrils alone.
* BoisterousBruiser: As Phase 4, which while he does have very small ColdHam moments as Phase 1-3, he doesn't generally reach this level in those same forms until Phase 4.
* BornInTheWrongCentury: He seems to act as though the prehistoric ages of the Earth is where his ideal habitat in society is, and the only thing stopping him from living in the wilderness entirely is both the fact he's obligated by his co-deities into staying civilized, and the fact his own son Chronicler is very much a civilized human in terms of his lifestyle, so Grandis is forced to suck it up and stay at least partially civilized for everyone else's own good.
* BreathWeapon:
** Ice or Fire Breath depending on his mood and preference. Doesn't really like the fire breath because it represents his more wrathful nature from a kid which he hates, but whenever OOCIsSeriousBusiness, he will flat out burn someone to death with his fire breath unrestrained. Typically not advised to forcefully keep his mouth shut in close quarters combat should he attempt to bite you first, as the energy generated from him charging his breath weapon will typically cause a shock and severe burn to whomever's hands are restraining his mouth.
** Eventually it's discovered that Grandis' only ''natural'' breath weapon was actually his Ice Breath. The reason he exhales Fire Breath every now and then is simply because of him having too much oxygen in his system and needing to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Despite the biological explanation presented, however, this does not rule out the idea of Grandis' emotions actually influencing it. Grandis exhales a lot when he's calm, and breathes in only what is needed for his kind under normal circumstances. When building up rage, he's hyperventilating to the point he takes in too much oxygen without taking the time to process it or exhale overabundance of it quick enough. When he's at his RageBreakingPoint, he lets out a highly explosive stream of fire breath, immediately preceded by a long, sharp inhale of breath before unleashing the fire blast afterwards.
* BrokenAce: He does indeed have significant power as an Ultimorian Deity, but it's clear he's a depressed wreck by the time ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' happens. Then ''Truth and Ideals'' showcases he's still depressed, and seems to get along with Nanu because of how both of them end up with the condition proper.
* BrokenPedestal:
** Chronicler doesn't exactly view him as a good figure at first, considering Grandis' ParentalNeglect.
** [[spoiler:Ken originally holds Grandis in high respect even with the fact Ken had unwittingly murdered Grandis' wife while managing to save the two's child, but because Grandis never knew Chronicler survived, Grandis had an undeniable hatred for Ken because of the fact he had murdered his wife by proxy with his efforts. When Ken goes to seek out Grandis for salvation from the Naotolis, Ken is greeted not to the {{Troll}}ing Grandis that the former had shown to Nobuyuki, but rather a Grandis who legitimately has an actual reason to truly hate Ken. The encounter between the two in ''Reflection Code'' demonstrates why Ken fears Grandis in the present three months later.]]
** [[spoiler:He's built up to be a [[TheParagon paragon]] of an adult in ''Operation R.E.B.O.O.T.'', but one BerserkButton presses too many leads to him going past the RageBreakingPoint which leads to Grandis himself ''utterly destroying'' whatever pedestal he may have ever had in the eyes of the ''Operation R.E.B.O.O.T.'' verse natives.]]
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Tends to give the vibes a lot of being a crazy homeless guy, but he's at least ironically the more responsible of the Big Three by actually bothering to pay attention to what's going on and actively try and take part in it when he can, whereas Ultima and Dragora are both even bigger perpetual slackers than he is.
* CastFromStamina: Part of Grandis' CripplingOverspecialization is that far, far too many of his abilities run off of his stamina alone; his overall stamina is actually his ''weakest'' stat when compared to his other physical capabilities, meaning because of the fact a majority of Grandis' abilities use up such immense portions of stamina at a time, one simply has to wear down Grandis' stamina to gain the upper-hand against someone otherwise considered to be TheJuggernaut.
* CatchPhrase: "Whatever, you sick [[PrecisionFStrike fuck]]." Or, alternatively, any time he gets to drop a PrecisionFStrike in general.
* CharacterFilibuster[=/=]AuthorFilibuster: While partially {{Justified}} considering how much of his train of thought and dialogue is translated directly from the author himself, considering Grandis is an AuthorAvatar for a good reason, Grandis does the best he can to either [[{{Defied}} defy]] or [[{{Averted}} avert]] these two tropes ever since he was criticized at a young age for his HolierThanThou attitude when he was an even bigger {{Jerkass}}.
* CharacterTics: His near consistent sounds of exhaustion in his voice; generally sounding very bored with life at many times. It's only when he's going through OOCIsSeriousBusiness does he drop most of this, though.
* ColdHam: In Phases 1-3.
* ContemporaryCaveman: {{Implied}} through how Grandis describes how for a very lengthy portion of his life he had spent living on the reborn version of his original homeworld, he had waited throughout a massive ice age in his Phase 3 form as his whole subspecies of Ultrarian humans had lived exclusively in their own Phase 3 forms until civilization was formed in which the Phase 3 form became obsolete, but Grandis himself still exhibits [[ThePigPen many]] [[AnIcePerson of]] [[ExtremeOmnivore the]] [[FullBoarAction characteristics]] associated with the more primitive Ultrarian humans.
* ContinuityNod: By the time ''Digimon Re: Adventure'' takes place, he's a hermit living in the wilderness. While not specifically Aokigahara like in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', nor is it the hermitage in France, he instead takes refuge in an abandoned elementary school campus from which Taichi and several of his friends originally attended back when it was still being used before being slatted for demolition.
* CosmicPlaything: How he ends up in the situations he does can only truly be explained by this.
* CowboyCop: When compared to the other Ultimorian Deities who prefer to sit on the sidelines if they're not relevant to a given situation, Grandis will take great measures to try and forcefully shove himself to be part of any given conflict just to make sure things don't get too out of hand. Grandis' ideals seem to be trying to repent some unknown sins of his past, and thus taking the initiative and trying to be a hero seems to be a sort of redemption in his eyes, even if everyone else around him views him as a nuisance.
* [[CrazyCatLady Crazy Ferret Man]]: Keeps a bunch of ferrets in his run down shack. [[spoiler:Later adds a beagle into all of it.]]
* CripplingOverspecialization: Powerful melee abilities that Grandis uses one after another which heavily deplete his stamina bit by bit; even if his stamina is increased to a certain point, the moment he's finally exhausted all of it, he's rendered from TheJuggernaut to NotSoInvincibleAfterAll.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype:
** Of Self Inserts. He's first shown as being less than his powerful state than what he's known for, he's currently a washout who relies too much on his inherent raw power to get by, and even then he's clearly very out of practice [[spoiler:as Damion cripples him for years, and Kirito nearly kills him had he not been stopped from landing the fatal blow.]]
** Of TheOmniscient as well; Grandis does indeed know everything there is to know, but he does not have any constant need or instinct to know everything at every single moment, so he only uses the bare minimum of his mind for a majority of the time. Due to this, Grandis can appear more dumber on a surface level, and considering Grandis at times lacks a proper common sense and misses a lot of social communication cues, Grandis appears to more or less hide his omniscience underneath HiddenDepths. Not only that, but often times it appears Grandis' omniscience is so immense in nature that it actually causes further hampering on his mental ineptitude, considering for Grandis to recall very specific information, even ones that happen to be within recent memory, he has to organize a gigantic, endless maze of a mind to be able to recall the information he needs at any time. He has omniscience, but he has all of the typical faults of human error when it comes to actually using or dealing with it.
* DeepSouth: Sometimes has his accent slip into this depending on how he chooses to word things. Funnily enough, this isn't actually an accent that Creator/MF217 speaks with ''naturally'', but he ''can'' actually emulate this accent under certain circumstances.
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: Of the HumanAliens and AmbiguouslyHuman origins.
* [[spoiler:DelayedNarratorIntroduction:]] [[spoiler:Based off of certain lines from other characters, as well as one from himself, he's implied to have appeared in every fic in the continuity by virtue of being the narrator for all of them.]]
* DemBones:
** Phase 1 can look either like a mummified type of human, or actually go even further and remove the skin and muscle around his head, making his skull directly visible and exposed. Grandis doesn't seem to be harmed by either of these traits of Phase 1, so often times when he needs to it'll be up to the occasion which increasingly undead look he uses while in this form.
** He's been noted to make his entire body borderline a skeleton if he decides he needs to scare the overloving shit out of a specific person in the room during a meeting. Again this doesn't appear to actually impede any of Grandis' functionality on a biological level, leading some to ask how he manages to survive as increasingly undead forms or as the opposite of a gigantic, brutish, bigfoot-esque {{Wendigo}} creature.
* UsefulNotes/{{Depression}}:
** Has fallen into this a tiny bit by the time ''Truth and Ideals'' occurs.
** This isn't the first time, either; [[spoiler:at one point in the SeriesFic, one fic takes place exactly one month after the birth of Chronicler, and thus the death of Grandis' wife and for all he knew Chronicler's death as well. Here he's beginning to develop into what he ultimately was before the events of the breakout from which ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' and ''Reflection Code'' use in their stories. He spends much of the time in ShapeshifterModeLock as his Phase 4 form because he's too frustrated with what had happened to safely revert back into his prior forms, especially considering the entire reason for the Mode Lock is because he ''almost'' achieved Phase 5 in the process of overwhelming rage and emotion.]]
** [[spoiler:''Reflection Code'' has things go FromBadToWorse continuing from where he had left off in ''Digimon Re: Adventure'', in which he exiles himself to Aokigahara due to his troublesome behavior and increasing SanitySlippage. The spirits of the forest, who are normally invisible to everyone else, haunt and torment Grandis to no end, not only increasing his depressed state, but also causing him to go through SanitySlippage over the next ''18 years'' which leads to him becoming a HumanoidAbomination of a monstrous animal.]]
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Grandis has no general idea what his actual goal in life is, often because he feels like he's in a NowWhat situation in that he believes he's outlived his original purpose and no longer has any grasp on what he's needed for anymore.
* DigitalAvatar: His Lyoko Avatar is a raven hooded version of himself with two raven skulls on his shoulders, a red, regal robe, and a spear from which he quickly calls "Gungnir" and wields more akin to a sword. Doubles as a MythologyGag as Grandis has been described as an {{Expy}} of Odin already, but his Lyoko avatar just makes the references come full circle.
* DinosaursAreDragons: Obviously a ''Dimetrodon'' isn't a dinosaur, but the dragon part fits with how some have described his Phase 4, fully armored form, especially since not only does Grandis become even more bestial than normal in said form, but he's also much more frequent with utilizing his BreathWeapon in said form than he is otherwise. The fact he can fly in this form also helps.
* DirtyOldMan: {{Defied}}; despite the jokes he sometimes makes regarding this, such as one instance of referring to Ruki's mother as a "[[StacysMom MILF]]", Grandis only has a SingleTargetSexuality towards Kizmel, making any other possible romantic or sexual attractions completely non-existent and is merely Grandis being a goofball.
* TheDreaded: Depending on how much one considers him to be the Muggle of the Ultimorian Deities, he's at least got one thing going for him; he's the most outright vicious when he needs to be, and his unrivaled tenacity in the Ultimorian Deity pantheon is what got him to such a high rank of power in the first place.
* DudeNotFunny: Grandis' quips and jokes aren't exactly well liked InUniverse, such as the one instance he jokingly refers to Ruki's mother as a "[[StacysMom MILF]]" and gets kicked across the room because of it.
* {{Eagleland}}: Difficult to define him as any given version of it since he inconsistently shows traits of both, but he's at the very least a fictional analog to this particular trope and ethnicity.
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:Grandis' soul viewed in the physical plane immensely distorts all of space and time, once having left a prior host body and begins to seek out the next available host body to restore itself with. It's questionable whether or not the InterfaceScrew at the end of Chapter 16 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' was either Darigus, or Grandis' soul leaving his body to seek out his hidden body located in Europe.]]
* TheEndingChangesEverything: [[spoiler:Chapter 16 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' ends with Grandis flat out KilledOffForReal; he never gets revived despite what we allegedly see as him being alive in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''. The Grandis who appears in the latter was never free roaming just yet; he is still contained just like how Mirror M was in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' when it took place. The Grandis who appears in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' and subsequently is killed off is the original version of Grandis from whom was used as a prototype for the version of Grandis who would later appear in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''. The Grandis who appears in the fics that follow also constantly has an existential crisis he hides from everyone, because he's otherwise all but convinced he's meant to be the real deal but ultimately isn't. That's not even ''beginning'' to let the implications of Chapter 16's ending into consideration, [[OhCrap considering that with Grandis killed off and thus the]] UnreliableNarrator [[OhCrap with him...]]]]
%% EmotionsVersusStoicism: He has his moments of the former, but he very much heavily leans towards the latter. His BoisterousBruiser status as Phase 4 doesn't count; that's just an old habit for that specific form.
* ExplosiveOverclocking: [[spoiler:His Phase 6 form busted out always causes an explosion around himself which his body completely reabsorbs back into him.]]
* {{Expy}}:
** According to the author's mentor, Grandis has been consistently compared to [[Myth/NorseMythology Odin]].
** From a design standpoint, he's always had a lot of elements of [[WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddysBigPictureShow Eddy's Brother]].
** His white tuxedo and hat in Chapter 8 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', as well as his cleaned up look despite still being overweight, is meant to give vibes of Bowser as he appears in the majority of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey''.
** [[spoiler:Megalo Grandis is one of Megidramon in particular of ''Digimon''[='s=] various Dark Evolutions, primarily because of Megidramon's level and how much of a threat he poses to everyone; himself included.]]
** [[spoiler:Exalted Grandis, at least in terms of the upcoming reveal of his design anyways, is an {{expy}} of [[Franchise/YuGiOh Exodia]] due to the fact his artwork will combine multiple sheets of paper together to draw his design together.]]
** Vocally, the author can't truly figure out whether he'd use his own natural voice, use a voice doing a Creator/FrankWelker [[Franchise/{{Transformers}} Megatron]] impersonation, or a mix of both in which under most circumstances he uses his normal voice, only to sometimes slip into said Megatron impersonation during enraged moments.
* FantasticNuke: He knows how to use [[VideoGame/PokemonUltraSunAndUltraMoon Light That Burns The Sky]], which normally he just uses "Polar Vortex Bombardment" as to his own version of this.
* FatBastard[=/=]LeanAndMean: Phase 2 and Phase 1 respectively. Much of his species own inherent gigantism actually is more evident in his roundness more so than anywhere else, as while height-wise he's a runt, weight-wise he's actually average at approximately 800-900 lbs.
* FatSweatySouthernerInAWhiteSuit: Sweatiness questionable, but he dresses, looks, and sounds the part to the tee in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' Chapter 8 with his cameo at the very end.
* {{Flanderization}}: See TakeThatUs below as to what this refers to for Grandis.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 "I know everything! I feel everything!"]][[note]][[spoiler:Referring to his role as the narrator of each of the fics.]][[/note]]
** Impmon as [=NeoDevimon=] is performing a scan on the various main characters at one point, and can't help but notice [[spoiler:telekinetic restraints on Grandis that don't belong to him]]. While [=NeoDevimon=] glances over this due to not understanding the meaning of it, [[spoiler:anybody who has read Chapter 18 of ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' will recognize these as the PeoplePuppets restraints on Grandis on place by the author.]]
** Anybody who is familiar with ''Digimon'' will know as to how [[spoiler:Grandis forcing himself to Hyper Evolve into Phase 5 during ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' is going to [[GoneHorriblyWrong go horribly wrong]] in all of the possible ways.]]
** In Chapter 12 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', he briefly mentions an unseen character named Sophia whom he mistakes Kizmel for, indicating that there's another woman somewhere in his life he knows about that has an importance to him.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: Seems to have forgotten the fact he had met Mirror M three months prior by the time Mirror M confronts him in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''. Then again to be fair the only reason Mirror M could even tell Grandis his name was because [[spoiler:Grandis is the one to have given Mirror M his own name first.]]
* FrazettaMan: Of the ''H. s. ultimorius'', he is of the Gorilla Body Type.
* GeniusDitz: His {{Omniscience}} doesn't work for him because he's not only not able to immediately access information on a dime because he's too sluggish with his thinking, but he's also got a very poor grasp of common sense as to know what to even do with the knowledge he thinks about once he ultimately finds out what he needs to know. The lack of common sense also causes him to ''effectively forget he's omniscient in the first place until he's reminded of it.''
* TheGiant: [[spoiler:Exalted Grandis is '''massive''' compared to his prior forms.]]
* GodzillaThreshold: [[spoiler:Exalted Grandis is his Phase 7 form, which rarely gets utilized because Grandis normally doesn't possess the natural means of becoming the form without outside interference, most commonly using the Ultra Card to awaken the form. If he does show up as this form, it typically means whomever his opponent is will begin to suffer a severe beatdown to where calling it a CurbStompBattle would be tame as to what Exalted Grandis [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown does to his targets...]]]]
* GoodIsImpotent: Generally slacks off on the job to say the least.
* GoodIsNotNice: Borderlines on a Neutral character at times considering how many times he screws over just about anyone he pleases.
* GratuitousJapanese: After Grandis utters the [[MemeticMutation memetic]] "[[WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy SUBALUWA]]" [[spoiler:upon proceeding to hammer Darigus]] during ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', not even Renamon can understand what Grandis had actually said.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: Even though he throws insults towards people ''a lot'' for someone such as him, he's a NobleBigot who at least ''tries'' to be a good person, but his insults towards people are {{Downplayed}} with how frequent they occur, and the fact Grandis is more InnocentlyInsensitive at best.
* HeCleansUpNicely: [[spoiler:He was ThePigPen for much of his early appearances in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', and by the very end of Chapter 8, he's essentially a SharpDressedMan because aside from still looking overweight, he's cleaned himself and dresses in a white tuxedo and hat that makes Ruki notice right away [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness that something is not normal with Grandis right now]], which even Henry and Ryo notice by virtue of them exclaiming "Since when does [Grandis] shower?" when Grandis suddenly drops what he's doing and heads into the shower room of the VIP Club.]]
* HeavySleeper: Misses out on an important meeting because of the fact nobody could wake him up and ends up causing trouble because of PoorCommunicationKills taking effect once he's finally awake.
* HermitGuru: Especially during fics like ''Reflection Code'' and ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', in which he generally lives in almost complete isolation. Even in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' he still qualifies to a lesser extent.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:His bedroom in Gaia Snowfield reveals he has, at minimum, had no less than 4 dates with other women before, is an avid gamer but having next to no collection of his own, a lot of storage boxes in his room which contain stashed away reserves of food and drink mixes, as well as a, surprisingly still functional, gaming PC which has a diary within the hard drive's documents detailing Grandis' life prior to ascending into an Ultimorian Deity.]]
* HumanAliens: He's the native human species from the Ultimorian Multiverse, but he's an alien everywhere else for obvious reasons.
* HumanSubspecies: His species is repeatedly stated in all but its actual name so far to be ''Homo sapiens ultimorius'' ("Working Man of Ultimoria").
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:As Megalo Grandis.]]
* ImplacableMan: Considering he can just run right through '''''solid titanium walls''''' without being slowed down, it becomes crystal clear he's not fucking joking about his heritage.
--> Megalodon: Okay I have seen many things, [[Characters/CitadelOfTheHeartMirrorM a square-cube law defying reptile]], [[Characters/CitadelOfTheHeartDigimonCastAndAffiliates a real angel]], [[Characters/CitadelOfTheHeartCodeLyokoCastAndAffiliates a psychic and her band of metahuman friends, two psychotic AIs]], [[{{Foreshadowing}} a sound breaking dragon]], and yet this ugly SOB of a '''''craaazzzy''''' man is what scares me the most, typical.
* InkSuitActor: Phase 2 Grandis is designed as one to the author himself, befitting his role of an AuthorAvatar proper.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: His NobleBigot insults ''at best'' are considered this.
* InsaneTrollLogic: His occupation as a janitor much of the time leads to many questioning him as to why he's ThePigPen and yet he is ObsessivelyOrganized for everything else in comparison.
* {{Irony}}:
** His debut in a nutshell is one from a meta-perspective.[[labelnote:Explanation]]The author has an immense hatred for Sugou Nobuyuki, and has made his hatred of him rather clear and to the point, such as [[https://chronicle-king.deviantart.com/art/FINISH-HIM-480627296 an outdated pic]] of Grandis giving his Nobuyuki's Oberon avatar the "[[Film/Godzilla2014 kiss of death]]" and [[https://chronicle-king.deviantart.com/art/Death-of-the-Fairy-King-605199888 a more recent pic]] of [[spoiler:an EldritchAbomination version of Grandis killing Oberon (and his whole verse)]]. Naturally you would think Grandis would go in for the kill upon first setting sights on Nobuyuki in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', but instead, he doesn't and simply tolerates the {{Jerkass}} as he proceeds to scare the living shit out of him in the remainder of the chapter.[[/labelnote]]
** Hates the fact he's the King of the Ultimorian Deities, [[spoiler:kicks the asses of Ultima and Dragora a second time to get them both to do as he says anyways as a reminder of him being the fucking King.]]
** He takes the job of a janitor a lot and is ObsessivelyOrganized, and yet can't even be bothered to avert ThePigPen for himself.
** His AbusiveParents status to Chronicler is noteworthy when you consider [[spoiler:Henry views Grandis as the "only father who truly understood him", although then again Grandis tells Henry to not push the comparison too much even if Henry views Grandis as a ParentalSubstitute.]]
** He's normally anything but a TokenWhite, but he ultimately becomes this in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', ''Reflection Code'', '''and''' ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' by virtue of being the only White character to also be an [[{{Eagleland}} Eaglelander]] ''and'' be a part of the main cast proper. In ''Reflection Code'', he's surrounded by Whites who are of European origins, and only in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' of those three is he anywhere near characters who are Whites specifically from the US.
** Much like his son Chronicler, he is a dwarf among his species ''H. s. ultimorius''. His species on average ranges from 10-20 feet tall, but Grandis himself is only 5'8". The reason this is a big deal? His reoccurring nickname is "Big G".
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: ''Oira'', which isn't used too often considering how many times Japanese isn't truly spoken in actual text, but Renamon does refer to Grandis with this pronoun due to being more noticeably speaking Japanese.
* JetPack: Grandis has one, even in Phase 1 form, but he usually just uses his Phase 4 form's levitation to fly. In his lesser forms, he has a foldable jet pack which normally disguises itself as a normal backpack. When deployed, two large wings unfold from it and form into propeller blades similar to an [[https://nypost.com/2015/05/24/the-osprey-half-airplane-half-helicopter-totally-badass/ Osprey helicopter]]. In short, Grandis gets around the reality ensuing flaws of a stereotypical jet pack by basing his own jet pack modeled after the much more easier to maneuver helicopter rather than the flight normally associated with planes. As a bonus, for increasing his overall speed, they can transform further into a wings and a jet engine resembling a rocket ship, which is used primarily for traveling lengthy distances as opposed to it's default helicopter form, which is used instead for maneuverability.
* TheJuggernaut: Is infamous for being one of the toughest Ultimorian Deities because he's the embodiment of the immovable object in his particular universe of origin, with a small set of quantities of the unstoppable force. It's by all means shown that Grandis actually ''has'' these kind of incredible feats of strength to begin with, rather than PopularityPower having a hand in his victories.
* KavorkaMan: He doesn't exactly try to be this outright, but there's apparently evidence in [[spoiler:his original, abandoned home in Gaia Snowfield]], that he had tallied up to no less than 4 dates prior to his upbringing as his Ultimorian Deity heritage. If this is indeed true, the tally adds up to 5 when you consider his wife he once had in his backstory in both ''Reflection Code'' and ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''.
* KingInTheMountain: His entire portrayal as the King of the Ultimorian Deities in a nutshell.
* KnightTemplar: Sometimes his antics make him look to be more villainous than his actual role is meant to be.
* LargeHam: As Phase 4. Heck technically ''all'' of his forms, but Phase 4 is just far less subtle about it.
* [[spoiler:LemonyNarrator:]] [[spoiler:The entirety of the narration are his internal monologues, and whenever anybody showcases a sense of MediumAwareness and are in a scene which actually discomforts Grandis, it most definitely shows.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: Only really tends to showcase his true Ultimorian Deity heritage in serious situations.
* LimitBreak: "Dethrone and Destroy", a maneuver which requires Grandis [[spoiler:to bluff his injury during his fight with Chronicler]] to allow him to have enough time to trigger it. Afterwards, Grandis' agility, speed, and stamina all immensely skyrocket in activity; keep in mind, that these three areas are where he's at his weakest under his normal conditions, and in practice, [[spoiler:transform him into quite a hellish SNKBoss as we quickly see him demonstrate against Chronicler.]]
* LudicrousSpeed: Grandis in practice has no {{Cap}} for his top speed; actually witnessing this effect takes Grandis at least a solid hour of running to experience in which afterwards Grandis' legs cartoonishly bend in such a way to accommodate the immeasurable running speed he achieves at this point being able to flat out outrun most cars to ever normally tread the roads. Actually ''stopping'' once this effect has been achieved proves to be a hindrance for Grandis as he can never actually safely come to a halt when he does this type of run.

* {{Magitek}}: How his armor functions [[spoiler:as Voldemort learns the hard way.]]
* ManBitesMan: Not recommended to get in close quarters combat with him unless you can withstand the bite force and shredding power akin to thrice that of a great white's. According to legend, Grandis bit into ''Doedicurus'' armor and there are the fossilized remains of said ''Doedicurus'' somewhere in South America with the wound more or less unchanged by the ravages of time. Whether or not anybody has found the fossils or if it even happened at all is a mystery.
* MeaningfulName: Not deliberately anyways; his name Grandis comes from his current AnimalMotif of ''Dimetrodon'', which is considered an AscendedMeme for Grandis as his original animal motif was a Ceratopsian.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Most of the time. Not long after his debut, he's put OutOfFocus for a while, but he still shows up when necessary. [[spoiler:Or in some situations just barges into a story for no other reason other than because he can.]]
* MysteriousPast: [[spoiler:Just about anything regarding Grandis is difficult to determine, especially his actual personality in contrast to the author considering the subtle hints that implies Grandis and the author are not exactly the same as one might think, and that the differences in characterization shown through Grandis are meant to be Grandis showing his true self as much as possible, but ultimately getting subdued by the author's greater authority. Add on to the fact Grandis is allegedly omniscient, he might actually speak the truth when he claims he knows everything because his TimeAbyss nature may have allowed him to have SeenItAll.]]
* NobleBigot: He has ''a lot'' of times where he flat out throws insults left and right, but he's at least ''trying'' to be a good person despite that.
* NonindicativeName: His nickname of being a "''Dimetrodon''" doesn't make too much sense unless you either A: know what his normal name Grandis can alternatively refer to, or B: squint ''just'' hard enough with his Phase 4 form as to not this form is basically a HumongousMecha modeled after a ''Dimetrodon''.
* NotSoInvincibleAfterAll: What many discover of Grandis' powers once they are in the know about his poor stamina management.
* AnOddPlaceToSleep: During the chapter of his formal introduction in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', he's sleeping in the middle of the floor, curled up in a fashion similar to a bear would when sleeping.
* OhCrap: [[spoiler:When he sees Ruki using Taomon's [=DigiCore=] and using the [[ThePowerOfFriendship Soul Link]] successfully, and is subsequently blown across the room by an insulted Ruki, Grandis becomes ''floored'' that the Soul Link is actually that powerful. Eventually he later learns [[AchillesHeel that it's generally strong against Ultimorians like himself]].]]
* TheOmniscient: {{Deconstructed}}; it's borderline HiddenDepths of his that this is actually the case, as when other characters state him to be this it usually comes across as an InformedAttribute because of [[TheDitz the obvious lack of common sense and social understanding Grandis has]]. [[LetsGetDangerous When he actually takes the time to]] ''[[LetsGetDangerous think]]''[[LetsGetDangerous , however,]] [[{{Reconstruction}} this is when the omniscience is displayed in full force]] even if it does confuse him as to where to even begin to search for information in his head regarding it.
* OnceAnEpisode: His appearances in the continuity are much more prevalent than Chronicler's because of the fact in some of the fics, Chronicler doesn't even exist yet due to not being born yet, such as is the case in ''Digimon Re: Tamers''. Grandis tends to appear consistently because he's alive and active for every part of the entire continuity.
* OneOfTheKids: He can interact very well with teenagers or younger, considering he qualifies as a old guy much of the time considering his immense age but otherwise having the appearance of someone younger in their [=20s=]. As a result of this, despite Grandis' TimeAbyss nature, he can both interact well with those much younger due to his PsychopathicManchild tendencies, but he's not completely inept with interacting with normal adults either.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Is often referred to as "Big G" in certain scenarios, especially ''Digimon Re: Tamers''. However, Henry and Ruki both know of him as [[spoiler:Martin]] and Grandis respectively, meaning the two know him more personally, especially in the former's case.
* OnlySaneMan: What he ''thinks'' he is in ''[[CastFullOfCrazy Operation R.E.B.O.O.T.]]''.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** [[spoiler:His internal monologue isn't exactly normal during the prologue of ''Reflection Code'', all things considered. He starts off as if trying to delay the inevitable with Mirror M's introduction, if merely because he's already had a fear of the "God Slayer" as it is, but the fact he's having to tell the story from his perspective is making him all the more uncomfortable knowing how hostile of an AntiHero Mirror M can tend to be at times.]]
** [[spoiler:Just how powerful Enigma is and its control over Ruki's old digivice pretty much ''requires'' him to invoke the presences of Dogma, Zenith, and Ultima just to forge Ruki a new digivice and free Taomon from the control of the old one. Grandis would ''never'' ask for such outside help had it not been for just how powerful Enigma truly is, which means Grandis is all but stating ''[[HorrifyingTheHorror he actually feels threatened by Enigma's presence.]]'']]
** [[spoiler:Grandis shows an OhCrap moment towards Ruki using the Soul Link; he does ''not'', however, show anything like this towards Darigus a few chapters later. While many could associate the fact Darigus is probably more familiar with Grandis, he reacts to Darigus with a hint of exhaustion and a rather solemn acknowledgement. Either something about Darigus just reminded him of something very, very emotionally troubling, or Grandis has more reason to be concerned over the Soul Link than he even remotely does Darigus.]]
** [[spoiler:Grandis suddenly having to bail from a plan against Darigus because of a phone call from someone the rest of the ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' cast have no clue exists, and yet the only verification they get that whoever it is means serious business is when Grandis immediately tells Ryo and Henry [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness he needs to go off and shower]], prompting the two young adults to ask [[CueTheFlyingPigs "Since when did]] [[ThePigPen Grandis]] [[WhamLine ever shower?"]]. When he's seen again at the end of the chapter, he's made it towards where Takato's residence resides, Ruki sees Grandis and before she can ask anything about Darigus or what had happened, she's so busy distracted by Grandis' complete reversal in cleanliness, all the way down to wearing a squeaky clean white suit, that she actually bothers to ask what's going on with Grandis' newfound cleanliness because [[WhamEpisode she is fully aware this is a completely unusual, and by all means OOC moment for Grandis that something serious must've come up to suddenly cause such an immense change in Grandis' thought process]].]]
** [[spoiler:Grandis showing up in person for the first time in ''Reflection Code''; he's merely a mindless predatory beast of an entity that is first seen running down a displaced Ulrich and Odd to kill and eat them. SanitySlippage is ''not'' the only reason for Grandis being like this for that matter...]]
* OurGiantsAreBigger: {{Inverted}}. ''H. s. ultimorius'' is a species of giant, but Grandis suffers from [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achondroplasia Achondroplasia]], which is only really obvious with how deformed his limbs are as otherwise he stands a still impressive 5'8". Even with that in mind, however, his bulky proportions make him just big enough to weigh the same as average; he's 800-900 lbs. at almost all times.
* OutsideContextProblem[=/=]OutsideContextHero: Part of the main issue with first encounters with Grandis is the unknown factor Grandis may or may not have to some depending on the universe he's currently in, especially considering Grandis can showcase many, many attributes that just makes him feel completely out of place in a given story at any given time, be it his SirSwearsALot nature, his PhysicalGod and TimeAbyss nature, his general ability to serve as TheJuggernaut until one can notice his stamina flaws, among other factors.
* ParentalSubstitute: [[spoiler:Towards Henry in ''Digimon Re: Tamers''. As Grandis and Henry are both struggling to keep an income able to keep them both afloat in the real world, the two have gotten to know each other more to where they both practically rely on each other, and ultimately a pseudo father-son dynamic forms between the two.]]
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: Often provokes his enemies into doing something reckless against him just to get what he needs from a situation, usually without having to do anything other than speak. In fact, he does this to Nobuyuki almost the whole chapter of his debut.
* [[spoiler:PeoplePuppets:]] [[spoiler:Telekinetic restraints, presumably placed on Grandis by the author himself, exist as to make Grandis into what he is best known as here. As demonstrated in a {{Flashback}} in Chapter 18 of ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', if these restraints are severed or forcefully negated, Grandis exhibits behavior that ultimately [[{{Averted}} averts]] his AuthorAvatar status by showing small glimpses of his ''real'' self before the restraints are restored.]]
* PetTheDog:
** His interaction with the main characters in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' showcases he actually does care about their well being, especially concerning the recent arrival of Enigma and [[spoiler:Darigus]].
** [[spoiler:When he's shown resting in another abandoned building in a flashback in ''Digimon Re: Adventure'', a younger Meiko and Meicooomon find him as some feral Digimon are going after the duo. Grandis, considering he's currently in Phase 4 form, scares off the attackers as he simply slumps down and doesn't mind Meiko and Meicoomon taking shelter next to him. To be fair he's just too apathetic to so much as bother either of the two at the moment, but it still counts nevertheless as he doesn't chase them off like the others.]]
* PhysicalGod: One of the Ultimorian Deities.
* ThePigPen:
** The mere instant we see his "house" we clearly see he doesn't clean very well, if even at all. Also partially the reason everyone calls him things such as a hillbilly, homeless man, or hobo because of his lack of proper hygiene.
** Pointed out more in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' by virtue of his house above not existing yet, as he exists here as the janitor prior to when he serves as such in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', and Impmon notices Grandis' appearance is very, very unclean in appearance.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: While something he inherits from the author, Grandis at least actually speaks up about it at all yet alone in the very casual manner he does so. Most of this typically revolves around some perverted remarks that Grandis makes, such as famously referring to Rumiko from ''Digimon Re: Tamer''[='s=] as "[[StacysMom Ruki's MILF]]". Sometimes it's also a matter of Grandis being a ''very'' borish [[{{Eagleland}} Eaglelander]] at heart which leads to mostly InnocentlyInsensitive moments or flat out times where Grandis is being deliberately racist just to hit a particular person's nerves. Really unless you're [[LoveInterest Kizmel]] he's going to be bigoted towards you ''somehow'' at minimum.
* PopularityPower: {{Averted}}; Grandis is TheJuggernaut, but usually those who best him either have stamina that can far outlast Grandis' own, or enter the fight with near full stamina while Grandis is already weakened. Any combination of those two factors will lead to Grandis losing the fight. [[spoiler:Exalted Grandis' literally only reason for giving TheWorfBarrage to Ogudomon is the sheer, sudden increase of power caught Ogudomon by surprise with everything Ogudomon tries to defend itself with being smashed apart to tiny pieces because Exalted Grandis is big enough to flat out crush Ogudomon in his '''''hand'''''.]]
* PowerFloats: [[spoiler:His Shining Grandis form by default floats above the ground, even though he's perfectly capable of standing on the ground.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: Most definitely; he's insanely childish when it comes to his job as the King of the Ultimorian Deities.
* PuppetKing:
** [[spoiler:His role as the King of the Ultimorian Deities amounts to this because Ultima is technically the leader already, they just don't want the title in case somebody is looking for the leader of the Ultimorian Deities who can actually succeed in giving Ultima hell; Grandis can take punishment from just about anyone, so putting him as the role of the King makes it easier for adversaries of the Ultimorian Deities to be dealt with without Ultima having to do the hard work. Grandis apparently is semi-aware of this... [[ExploitedTrope but he knows he can equally boss around Ultima regardless]] [[LoopholeAbuse considering as Ultima themselves put it,]] [[HoistByHisOwnPetard "follow every command, request, and desire]] [[DidntThinkThisThrough of Grandis as the King of the Ultimorian Deities."]]]]
** [[spoiler:As detailed under MysteriousPast, it's subtly implied that the Grandis we know isn't who he actually truly is; he seems to show signs of being a separate entity from his AuthorAvatar incarnation, and his more noteworthy differences between himself and the author are perhaps his actual self trying to force themselves to the surface, but ultimately being subdued mentally by the author's control.]]
* RageAgainstTheHeavens: He has ''definite'' issues with Ultima and Dragora during ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' that end up motivating his anger and frustrations.
* RageBreakingPoint:
** [[spoiler:He deems virtually everyone so immensely idiotic in the ''Operation R.E.B.O.O.T.'' universe that he goes berserk under the assumption that he's SurroundedByIdiots.]]
** [[spoiler:The Soul Link's usage against him by Ruki has him attempt to activate his "[[LimitBreak Dethrone and Destroy]]" maneuver against her immediately, only for Ruki to NoSell it because of the Soul Link's Anti-Ultimorian properties.]]
** [[spoiler:When Grandis sees Kizmel in a badly damaged condition, and then sees White Rabbit going in for the kill against Henry's family, Grandis uses the Ultra Card to Hyper Evolve into Phase 7 Exalted Grandis and pulverize Ogudomon and White Rabbit to bloody stains on the ground using his gargantuan size advantage.]]

* RunningOnAllFours: [[spoiler:After his tail is severed as Megalo Grandis, he readily adapts by walking much like a gorilla would.]]
* ScaryTeeth: ''H. s. ultimorius'' can carve their teeth to match their diets, but Grandis carves his teeth to perpetually be akin to a shark's mostly as an intimidation display. His small size and twisted proportions are the only reason this works for him, as any other ''H. s. ultimorius'' trying to pull this off would look laughable due to their much smaller mouths; Grandis' mouth is significantly huge and actually can ''act'' like a shark bite in how powerful it is.
* SensoryOverload: Both his own version of {{UsefulNotes/Autism}} and the Predator Eyes make him ''incredibly'' sensitive to noise to where it effectively functions as a secondary AchillesHeel to him.
* ShapeshifterModeLock: Spends large chunks of ''Digimon Re: Adventure'' stuck in his Phase 4 form. [[spoiler:He overwhelmed his armor's circuitry when he first transformed into Phase 5 Shining Grandis sometime prior, meaning if he has to master Phase 5 first before he can safely power down from Phase 4.]]
* SharpDressedMan: [[spoiler:Part of his OOCIsSeriousBusiness as seen in Chapter 8 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' has him reappear by the end dressed up nicely and all cleaned up, his overweight stature as Phase 2 not withstanding. 232* ShoutOut:
** To numerous different things, most especially Kiryu from ''[=Godzilla against Mechagodzilla=]''.
** His "I know everything! I feel everything!" line is based off of some dialogue from the Demoman from ''Team Fortress 2''.
** Some of Grandis' quotes, much like the author, are sometimes lyrics from different songs altered to fit the context of whatever he's talking about. In Oshiro Roy's case, he specifically describes him as [[Music/{{Voltaire}} "the thorn in his side, makes him wriggle and writhe, and this is the life he sees because the Devil tips his hat to thee."]]
** [[spoiler:Shining Grandis is one to [[Franchise/BlazBlue Nu-13]] in terms of weaponry.]]
** [[spoiler:Both of the equally [[MemeticMutation memetic]] "SUBALUWA" sound effect ''and'' the Hat of Discipline from ''WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy'' are both referenced at once in the wake of Darigus' defeat in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' Chapter 8.]]
** [[spoiler:His white tuxedo and matching hat, combined with his bulky build being maintained aside from otherwise being cleaned up, he resembles a human version of Bowser as he appears in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey''.]]
** [[spoiler:Him going Exalted Grandis against Ogudomon is a direct reference to Ben [=10K=] going at Kevin [=11K=] as [[TheGiant Way Big]].]]
** His Phase 1 form and Phase 2 form started off as not looking all that much different. Phase 1 was later redesigned to look like a skeletal old person as the result of being a TimeAbyss who has biological immortality, which is exactly what the case with Grandis as a whole is. However, this causes him to have an uncanny resemblance to Mumm-Ra from ''WesternAnimation/Thundercats1985'' to some, considering both have at least an crippled looking lesser form with a beefed up second form. However, this was not intentional, as their are '''drastically''' more differences between how the forms function, even ignoring the fact the two characters are also nothing alike otherwise except for the aforementioned TimeAbyss ages they have.
** According to Grandis himself, had it not been for defective genes on his part, he would have demonic red skin and hair as white as snow all over his body. So are we talking about the average ''H. s. ultimorius'' or the Yeti from ''[[VideoGame/{{Carnivores}} Carnivores Ice Age]]''? Apparently, according to Dr. Devoniak, the answer is yes; the Yeti species found on that planet is a closer extant relative of ''H. s. ultimorius'' than what Earth based humans are to them, but considering the Yeti are basically savages who kill and eat everything that moves, hybridization between the two is almost impossible. [[spoiler:Key word being '''[[ExactWords almost]]''' impossible.]]
* SingleTargetSexuality[=/=]OneTrueLove: '''''Kizmel'''''. She's the ''only'' person out of the eons of Grandis' existence to whom he ever was being completely serious regarding either a romantic or sexual attraction, as otherwise Grandis is flat out not interested when it comes to anyone else.
* SirSwearsALot: Not as noticeable in ''Truth and Ideals'' due to that fic having ObligatorySwearing as a whole, but Grandis is guaranteed to drop a PrecisionFStrike if not a full on ClusterFBomb at least OnceAnEpisode. He's also the one of the few characters who'll consistently swear regardless of which fic he's present in.
* TheSlacker: Outside of his LetsGetDangerous side.
* SophisticatedAsHell: Grandis is indeed prone to insults like these, but they're nowhere near the extremely gratuitous [[ShoutOut Shout-Outs]] as the author himself tends to be for this trope.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Invoked to be this when compared to the other Ultimorian Deities; considering Grandis functions entirely differently from the other 12, Grandis can have much, much greater wiggle room when it comes to major roles than the others ever possibly could, and thus it's more justified as to why Grandis has more appearances than his fellow deities.
* SuperMode: Much of the time, his Phase 4 form is considered this. [[spoiler:PlayedStraight a lot less subtly with Phase 5 Shining Grandis, however.]]
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:Megalo Grandis in a nutshell. Grandis' emotions are in a negative state whenever he attempts to become Shining Grandis as normal, but in such a case he becomes Megalo Grandis instead.]]
* SuperPrototype: Designated as "AI-000" by Dr. Devoniak in ''Sword Art Online: Special Editon''. At first seems kind of jarring considering Mirror M's actual placement as this trope, but then you consider that Dr. Devoniak and Grandis are both TimeAbyss entities who are ArchEnemies...:
* SurroundedByIdiots: "Y'all are ''crazy.''"
* TakeThatUs: He's taking virtually every negative flaw of the author and exaggerating them/bringing them to the forefront.
* TeleportersVisualizationClause: Grandis can teleport to anywhere so long as he has the intended destination within his line of sight. While Grandis would at first appear limited to get from point A to B across the entire Earth, Grandis has been noted to use the Moon or passing space debris big enough for him to land on to quickly teleport from one side of the planet to the other in a MultistageTeleport. There is one minor problem with this at times; there doesn't appear to be any upper limit for the actual distance in which Grandis can teleport in an instant. This has lead to Grandis misfiring this ability and winding up traveling several thousand lightyears into another star system by complete accident at times, sometimes even going as far as to wind up in an entirely different galaxy millions upon millions of lightyears away.
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: {{Defied}}, {{Downplayed}}, and {{Justified}}; [[spoiler:Kazu and Kenta are both capable of doing what Grandis is needed for in the first arc of ''Digimon Re: Tamers''; hacking into a digivice or [=DigiCore=] bound to a specific Digimon or its tamer, and locking out anyone who has unauthorized access to either. However, as Kazu and Kenta are out of town, this leaves Grandis as the only other one with the knowledge of how to jury rig a digivice or [=DigiCore=] as to prevent a thief from trying to control someone else's Digimon.]]
* ThouShaltNotKill: PlayedWith. He actually ''did'' avert this ''once'', and he regretted it because [[spoiler:Dr. Devoniak's knowledge could've been ''so very useful'' during the events of ''Reflection Code'' and ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', and heck even ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', but since Dr. Devoniak is dead and he's the one holding the secrets of his own knowledge, Grandis killed him without realizing he could've simply locked him up and eventually interrogated him for the info later on, although to be fair to Grandis, as well as many others present, [[VileVillainSaccharineShow Dr. Devoniak was basically]] UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler [[VileVillainSaccharineShow 2.0 in the making.]]]] Nowadays he just prefers to humiliate his foes by either literally dumping them into the trash as a metaphor or various other types of humiliation of his enemies he can think of.
* TimeAbyss:
** Grandis Prime isn't a separate entity at all; he's the exact same Grandis you see here. In other words, he's '''''older than the current incarnation of [[TopGod Invictus Ultrarius]]''''' because of this factoid.
* TokenWhite: He's the go to [[{{Eagleland}} Eaglelander]] in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', ''Reflection Code'', '''and''' ''Digimon Re: Tamers''. He's technically not the sole white to appear in some of them, especially ''Reflection Code'' and ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', but due to his AscendedExtra status in both fics, he more or less fits the bill as he's otherwise surrounded by either Whites from European origins, all sorts of types of Asians be it full or half, various dark-skinned characters of differing descents, and other ethnicities one would find in Europe such as Germans, French, or even Russians.
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:Despite what it may otherwise seem in the aftermath of Chapter 16B of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', the ResetButton was not actually hit; the Grandis in the room before Hypnos is actually not the same individual as the one they knew prior, but so far he's yet to demonstrate any out of character moments to establish the fact. The only obvious clue he had given was him going to repair his namesake armor, and completely kicking out everyone else from the school, including Henry. Henry suspects something is wrong with Grandis almost right away, and decides to try and investigate the situation personally.]]
* TooDumbToFool: More like too busy thinking about how it's even supposed to ''work'' for it to actually work against him; [[AuthorAvatar a trait which he shares with the author himself]], as the author describes both himself and Grandis as "being too busy thinking about how exactly hypnosis is supposed to work that the hypnosis attempt is unable to pierce our minds proper".
* TookALevelInJerkass: A gradual shift that takes a year before he shows it, but one year after ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' ends, he begins to show signs of SuperDickery.
* TopHeavyGuy: Much like his brother, albeit with more gorilla-esque proportions in mind as opposed to his brother's orangutan-esque.
* TrashOfTheTitans:
** His "house" from ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' and ''Reflection Code'' amounts to this; just a partially retrofitted old storage building, that isn't very big nor very clean. The ferret related objects are oddly the most clean about his place though.
** The Hermitage in ''Reflection Code'' briefly qualifies, as Grandis has yet to move into his hidden home in Aokigahara at the time the first few parts of ''Reflection Code'' take place.
* {{Troll}}: He's clearly having a blast tormenting Nobuyuki in his debut.
* TroubledSympatheticBigot: Definitely shows shades of his sympathetic qualities at times; his generally poor living arrangements, his seeming desire as a DeathSeeker who knows he can't have what he ultimately desires just yet, and even his desire to be on good terms with Chronicler.
* TrueSight:
** Applies to every member of ''H. s. ultimorius''; he can't be deceived by disguises of any kind, and can only see the true form of something before him. Unlike his son Chronicler, whose hybrid nature allows him to turn it off, Grandis has no such luxury; as a result, whenever Grandis looks at any individual of the Dragora legion for too long, he's prone to begin to GoMadFromTheRevelation at worst but at minimum suffer SanitySlippage by looking at them for too long.
** Assuming he ever gets the chance to lay eyes on Hobbes from ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'', an oddity happens in which Grandis' TrueSight [[spoiler:causes everyone in direct proximity to see Hobbes the exact same way Calvin does, even if Grandis is not maintaining eye contact with Hobbes; so long as he's otherwise perfectly with line of sight of hearing range, this effect persists. Grandis actually has the ability to do this with just about anything he exposes through TrueSight, but Hobbes is the only case this is automatically applied without Grandis having to manually trigger the effect. Due to this very factoid, this is often used as a means of keeping track of Grandis within said world, since if Hobbes is blatantly a living character as Calvin sees him and Grandis is nowhere in immediate sight, everyone will know Grandis is not very far away.]]
* UglyGuyHotWife: [[spoiler:Kizmel certainly looks a heck of a lot more attractive than Grandis himself ever could be.]]
* VocalEvolution: {{Implied}} by virtue of his own son's VocalEvolution in which a puberty-esque change in voice didn't affect Chronicler until his first year after turning 20, in which case he had still sounded rather child-like in tone. Grandis, as well as every other Ultimorian human, don't vocally mature until much later in their lives than when a normal human does so; there simply existed no evidence in the present day until Chronicler displayed this that this was even remotely the case, since Grandis and by extension Dalton were already long past vocally mature.
* WellDoneDadGuy: Desperately wants to be on good terms with Chronicler after having been absent from most of his life.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: When he ends up coming across more as a villainous character he does show some spades of this.
* {{Wendigo}}: Of either the BigfootSasquatchAndYeti variety or going for an even more undead look more akin to the real deal. He also naturally produces a very refrigerating air, so his winter clothing is worn on him at all times even when he's out during the summer or in a warmer climate. Regardless of what his external body temperature is, it will never cause him to overheat considering his internal body temperature is actually below absolute zero. In addition, Grandis' diet is predominantly consisting of dairy or meats, with occasional supplements from other food groups. While he can sustain himself on a normal diet, fresh meat from wild game is the most healthiest for him to eat and keep his energy up with.
* WhamEpisode:
** [[spoiler:Him busting out Shining Grandis out of the blue to kill of Nobuyuki's remnants once he realizes just how much of the blame on Mirror M's current existence is truly to blame on him after all.]]
** [[spoiler:His entire sub-arcs in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'' and ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' both qualify, as Grandis in both is a ''huge'' OutsideContextHero[=/=]OutsideContextProblem that none of the cast have any remote clue as to how to properly deal with him just yet other than leave him be and hope for the best.]]
** The pay-off to the below mentioned line in ''Digimon Re: Tamers''. [[spoiler:''Digimon Re: Tamers'' is revealed to take place when Kizmel is still alive, meaning this fic ''also'' takes place in the same verse as ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''. Specifically, this takes place when Kizmel is trying to first court Grandis and thus Grandis begins acting paranoid by doing ''[[ExactWords everything he possibly can do]]'' to try and make sure their first date is a success, and the first obvious, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness but also completely as out of character as possible]], gesture is to get himself cleaned up.]]
** [[spoiler:We eventually learn that the Grandis who appears in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' is '''''not''''' the same one who appears in ''Reflection Code'' or ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition''. How do we learn this? The Grandis from ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' is flat out KilledOffForReal and never revived as that particular version of him; the Grandis from the other two fics had always still been in containment just like how Mirror M was.]]
* WhamLine:
** Not spoken by Grandis, but when referring to Grandis [[spoiler:[[OOCIsSeriousBusiness freaking out and heading off to take a shower in a hurry]], Ryo and Henry ask each other [[CueTheFlyingPigs "Since when did]] [[ThePigPen Big G]] [[MassOhCrap ever shower?"]]]]
** [[spoiler:[[TheReveal “And what do you expect me to do about that, if I may ask, oh so heavenly Prince of the Ultimorian Deities, Chronicler?”]]]]
** "I am not the Grandis you used to know, Jianliang. Didn't you get the memo, after all? [[spoiler:Grandis-Prime ''[[KilledOffForReal died]]''.]] End of story." [[spoiler:Grandis when confronted by Henry in Chapter 17, proving that the Grandis he saw on the simulation did actually die; the resulting RealityBreakingParadox that ensued actually immediately created a replacement for Grandis, and while reversing some of the damages Brondramon did, also caused new damages in the process. Henry's real name is often seldom spoken in ''Digimon Re: Tamers'' as well, and the fact the new Grandis is aware of his real name showcases he, currently, has a much better grasp of his Omniscience than his Prime incarnation ever did. The fact Henry's real name is spoken by Grandis is all that Henry needs to hear to realize that [[TomatoInTheMirror this isn't the same Grandis as he knew prior]].]]
* WhamShot:
** While Chapter 1 is rather vague about it, [[spoiler:''Digimon Re: Tamers'' not only has him appear, but he has much, much lengthier hair than normal and is in a rather uncharacteristically good mood much of the time.]]
** In ''Digimon Re: Adventure'', sometime after his presence is established like any other fic in the continuity, [[spoiler:Grandis throws everyone for a loop by literally [[SuperMode going above 100% of his power by ascending into Phase 5;]] '''[[SuperMode Shining Grandis]]'''.]]
** [[spoiler:TheReveal that Grandis had the Ultra Card on him the whole time between Chapters 10-14's arc about Raiga questioning where it is from Impmon, whom she believed had stolen it when he had also stolen the Key Card.]]
*** [[spoiler:How he uses it; after Enric leaves Kizmel in a badly damaged state, Grandis activates the Ultra Card and goes into '''''[[OlympusMons Phase 7]]''''' ''and pulverizes Enric into a bloody pulp into the ground, all the while everyone observes as the now 500 meter tall colossus that Grandis had become gives a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Enric.'']]
** [[spoiler:Chapter 16 of ''Digimon Re: Tamers'', considering ''he flat out dies'' and leaves the entire narrative to be overtaken by some EldritchAbomination due to his absence.]]
* WhiteMaleLead: Considering he's an American analog ethnicity, kind of a given, but he barely qualifies since his mixed race heritage son is the actual lead of the story whereas Grandis is much more at home being a MinorMajorCharacter instead, leading to the trope being {{Defied}}.
* TheWorfEffect: [[spoiler:Besiege manages to take Grandis out by the end of Chapter 12, but by this point Grandis already exhausted himself by both A: just by getting to the diner to begin with, and B: using the remainder of his viable stamina on Enric and his other goons, and not realizing Besiege actually showed up at all considering both he and Enric noted this crowded place was against the type of hangouts Besiege even went to in the first place.]]
* YourSizeMayVary: Grandis is described as being 5'8", but this only seems to consistently apply to his Phase 1 form, and not actually his better known Phase 2 form; his size as Phase 2, by comparison, fluctuates to fit the overall mood of the character and the situation he's in.

!! Mass Produced Grandis Clones

During TheSixties and TheSeventies, Grandis was repeatedly cloned in an attempt to extract his immortality from the original specimen who would remain dormant until the 2030s, and the result were numerous clones of the original who had limited access to his abilities, but could not properly utilize his Phase 4 armored namesake. Many of the clones stayed in Phase 1 form, which made them look like skeletal degenerates which gave the impression that they were even weaker than they actually were. All of them could actually live up to the boast as being Grandis, however; due to the original Grandis having a HiveMind mentality when more than one of him exists, the original Grandis was effectively able to control the actions of his clones to a certain extent depending on how much of a free will the clones had. One particular clone actually had so much free will that he had become an entirely separate individual under a different name, and became so powerful that he effectively acquired his own Phase 4 form in which he dubs himself the "'''Emerald Crusader'''". By the time TheNewTens came to be, only Emerald Crusader and a single remaining normal clone remained, and the original Grandis was still in dormancy; any clone who was not outright confirmed to be deceased was automatically considered missing in action, and the fates of the latter are unclear to this day as a result.

[[caption-width-right:292:[[IHatePastMe "If you think Grandis is bad now, perhaps you might want to take a look at his younger self."]]]]

* AnIcePerson: Has his older self's Ice motif.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:Probably more than likely deserved having his Tyranitar snagged from him, but then again Wes doesn't consider it worth the price considering the otherwise CurbStompBattle he suffered from Kid Grandis in the process.]]
* BadBoss: Brutalizes his own minions for even so much as ''annoying'' him.
* BlessedWithSuck: While at first being able to see through even the most effective disguises seems like a blessing, due to how it works, [[spoiler:he can't look at '''any''' of [[EldritchAbomination the Dragora]] for too long without suffering a SanitySlippage.]]
* BreathWeapon: Frost.
* BullyingADragon:
** He had once tried literally everything known to tick himself off as to piss off his older self with, only for none of them to work.
** [[spoiler:Team Snagem picked a '''very''' nasty target as to have Wes steal a Tyranitar from.]]
* CainAndAbel: With his brother Dalton, although it's incredibly mellowed out by the time both are adults.
* ColdIron: Steel Type attacks seem to be that only things that cause him to recoil upon impact, considering he just literally shrugs off everything else.
* EnfantTerrible:
** His personality is designed after Baby Bowser, so this should be an obvious giveaway here. Other aspects of his personality ''not'' modeled after Baby Bowser showcases him to be much more villainous outright than his older self ever was by comparison, and incredibly petty at that.
** [[spoiler:He's strong enough as to give Baby Bowser a run for his money, considering he successfully mugs Nascour of an Aggron by jumping him with his surprising amount of brute force.]]
* {{Expy}}: Of Baby Bowser, and it ''shows''. He can still boss around his future associates no differently from his older self can, except he's ''much'' more a case of BadBoss about it than his older self is.
* HateSink: A SoreLoser who often cheats his way to victory 90% of the time, often using brute force to win his battles with no real strategy. Constantly abuses his associates, no matter who or what they are, and is a very petty individual when it comes to his overall motives and reasons for doing what he does. A BrattyHalfPint towards older characters, ''including'' his future self, Kid Grandis behaves and lives the lifestyle of an EntitledBastard who puts up more of a fuss than necessary when things don't turn out his way.
* IHatePastMe: His older self doesn't exactly have very fond memories of his own youth, and with how much of an EnfantTerrible Kid Grandis is, who could blame him?
* InNameOnly: As the Grandis namesake he technically isn't Grandis yet; he never acquired the armor prior to becoming an adult, meaning it's easier to refer to him by his real name instead unlike with his adult self. Other than that, he defies the InNameOnly aspect by technically still being Martin just from a significantly earlier point in time.
* InsistentTerminology: While both "Martin" and "Marty" are correct for Grandis' actual name, Kid Grandis specifically prefers the name "Marty", and outright hates being called "Martin" since it's usually spoken in the context of veering close to punishment.
* MadeOfIron: Something both he and [[spoiler:his Tyranitar]] can agree on being specialized at.
* OutsideContextProblem:
** [[spoiler:He's an absolute dreaded entity in Orre despite being a child, but then you recall he's the child form of an established DeityOfHumanOrigin. That and the fact being Grandis, it would be more unusual for him not to get directly involved in a fight, even in a {{Mons}} genre, considering Kid Grandis utilizes ''himself'' as his last fighter much of the time.]]
* PaperThinDisguise: Whereas his older self will play along with it for as long as it amuses him should anyone attempt to pull such a plot or scheme before his eyes[[note]](which since he has the Predator Eyes naturally, he flat out '''cannot''' be fooled by '''any''' disguise someone has; he can literally only see the true form of a given person before him)[[/note]], Kid Grandis only tends to react with confusion for a few minutes, and what he does next is borderline random depending on who you are and who you're trying to disguise yourself as. [[spoiler:A certain character in ''Shadow Heat'' that won't appear until the tail end of the story will be hit with Grandis' inability to be fooled by disguises '''''hard'''''...]]
* SNKBoss: [[spoiler:Packing a powerful set of Pokémon in addition to himself, including such Pokémon like Kommo-o, Hydreigon, Garchomp, and Dragapult. Notably, these four Pokémon are all not native to Orre, and are part of what make Kid Grandis so unpredictable due to the lack of proper information on these Pokémon in the Orre region.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: [[spoiler:The fact he's where Wes snagged the Tyranitar from that later becomes a Shadow Tyranitar and not Sirius' own Tyranitar is actually quite a big deal in context. Sirius being the trainer in question wouldn't have been any less frightening, but he would've been significantly more predictable in hindsight. Grandis is not even remotely predictable when one sees him in action.]]

!!Grandis the last of the Titanus Units

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/titanis_grandis.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:"The Shadow of Oblivion"]]

His namesake armor, in-person. Whenever the Titanus Unit is busted out, that's when the kid gloves come off with how in desperate need of absolute firepower Grandis needs at any given time. Sometimes, however, it isn't a portion of himself he can easily control, and the massive power high being hooked up to it's internal life-support systems while operating it can cause him to go absolutely ballistic beyond all rational reasoning. Grandis was the last of a mysterious line of robotic entities known as Titanus Units, which were designed with the sole purpose by Dr. Devoniak to render an entire species extinct with having the entire arsenal built around rendering the target an absolute joke by comparison. However, what was not anticipated was Grandis would have it's AI gutted out by the lone hominid who would later take his own name from this; in a fit of madness as to why his existence is considered so essential to the point all attempts to die have failed, Grandis hijacks the armor to make himself into it's vitality core as a means of ensuring he has absolute control over it by virtue of doubling as it's power source.

* BackstoryHorror: The Grandis Titanus Unit was designed with one purpose; render the ''H. s. ultimorius'' extinct. While it hasn't been able to fend off Devoniak considering an ''H. s. ultimorius'' also happens to be piloting it by virtue of also being it's power supply, said power supply is a specimen with already jacked abilities whose powerful lifeforce allows him to take on even bigger threats that the Titanus Units were flat out never intended to target.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: The Titanus Unit keeps its designated overall name for a key reason; it has gone up against the likes of Ultima and Dragora Galaxia and flat out brutally maimed both of them in a flat out victory.
* TheDreaded: Grandis becomes this to virtually everything by this point, even his own followers and his pantheon as a whole, as anybody who has heard of how exactly Grandis claimed the throne as the King of the Ultimorian Deities will tell you that this entire armor is how exactly he won that title to begin with.
* DuelsDecideEverything: Normally Grandis fights using the locals as a means of accessing a power to fight in their world; the Titanus Unit only favors itself when activated, and disregards every other resource Grandis has by comparison because it's deployment indicates Grandis needs something vastly superior in power overall.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Grandis activates it on-page the first time in ''Sword Art Online: Special Edition'', as a clear indicator he's not holding back in his battle against Chronicler to determine what abilities he has access to at that point in their first meeting. Grandis is more than aware of Chronicler's origins considering he is his father, and he busts out the Titanus Unit to determine just how much of his own inherit strength Chronicler wound up inheriting through his genes. Chronicler actually does a surprisingly good job at fending off the Titanus Unit even though he loses, and is able to walk away relatively fine after a few moments, and even leaves such a game breaking injury to the Titanus Unit and Grandis by extension that [[spoiler:Kirito]] is able to actually damage it next.
* GodzillaThreshold: Grandis needing this kind of overkill amount of firepower is rarely ever justified considering his ThouShaltNotKill policy, but when he is aware Devoniak is near, he can't control going into this form and attempting to absolutely eradicate him the moment he has him within his sights. Every time the form has activated involuntarily has also been because of Devoniak being detected by it's radar; in other words, every appearance of Phase 4 Grandis is now implying that Devoniak was at one point not very far away from where Grandis currently is at any given time.
* OneSteveLimit: The Titanus Unit is often referred to as such with it's actual name of Grandis being used primarily to refer to it's pilot more so than anything else. However, if it is actively being deployed, the name referring to it at the moment is flat out just Grandis.
* WorldsStrongestMan: To the point that Devoniak is the only one capable of actually fending it off and possibly even destroying it if he gets the opening to, from which is why Grandis uses this specifically against Devoniak in particular.

[[folder:[[spoiler:Grandis Gigantis]]]]
!!Grandis Gigantis

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grandis_gigantis_7.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:"Ya know all them times everyone and myself called me a "hillbilly", among other things? They were... half right, in regards to what I was actually called in ancient times. They called me a "hill giant", because I was so tall I would overlook the hills long before I reached the top. Of course, when the only interaction with civilization I had were among sentient small mammals, who could blame them for thinking I was that big?]]

Grandis is implied to at times be FormerlyFit in some capacity. The logical conclusion is none other than a seldom seen appearance of Grandis circa 30+ years ago, dubbed by the modern day Grandis as "'''Grandis Gigantis'''". His source of interaction with civilization was not through other humans, at least, not at this point in time. His grasp of human languages were... primitive, at this point. He interacted best with smaller animals, especially of the MouseWorld variety, for reasons that are currently unclear. Evidence suggests that the nutrients needed to survive on Earth were far more abundant in the not too distant past, and these smaller animals had no short supply of what they had deemed "useless" prior to discovering Grandis, from which they used these salvaged nutrients as offerings for what, for all intents and purposes, they viewed as a PhysicalGod in mortal form before their very eyes. By all accounts from modern day appearances, ''they were not wrong.''

* ColossusClimb: How some individuals had approached him in regards to trying to determine just how massive he was, considering the characters he interacted with in this state of peak condition were of the MouseWorld variety.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VideoGame/GodOfWar Kratos]], at least in appearance. Amusing in hindsight, considering the fact Grandis has more in common with the Colossus of Rhodes from his second game than he does Kratos himself.
* FirstPersonSnarker: Not obvious a majority of the time considering he tends to hide the fact he's the narrator for the whole SeriesFic. If a given fic outs him as the narrator, he's significantly less subtle about making his actual remarks known to the reader on a given situation.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The nutrients from Ultimoria he needs to survive are located underground and are very hard to reach above ground. As a direct result, as Grandis' form is ill-suited to digging, he relies on smaller mammals which have no such difficulty to find these nutrients for him, hence why that, during their various mining excursions, they find it so easily and deem it worthless because they themselves have no immediate use for it other than as offerings to Grandis, who most certainly ''does'' have a use for it in his diet. This continues even into the modern day where Grandis keeps ferrets which can dig tunnels below his territory, acquiring whatever nutrients Grandis needs to survive in a single day from self-replenishing areas far below ground.
* FormerlyFit: This is the "formerly" part of that description, as 30+ years ago this is what Grandis had looked like by default.
* TheGiant: Stands 8'10" when compared to Chronicler's 4'3".
* OurGiantsAreBigger: Heck even when compared to his modern day self he's bigger. In modern times, he's 5'8", but in the not too distant past, he's '''8'10"'''.
* {{Kaiju}}: Grandis interacted directly with a MouseWorld environment of animals but not other humans, and as a result, the significant height of 8'10" was taken to its logical extreme from the point of view of these significantly smaller creatures.
* MouseWorld: The type of creatures Grandis interacted with at this point in time. Modern evidence suggests he didn't outright lose touch with this world, as his ferrets he keeps in the present could very well be a more modern example of him maintaining this fact of himself. However, in the past, rather than helping other animals by providing food, the other animals were the ones providing food as Grandis, while the nutrients needed for ''H. s. ultimorius'' were more abundant in the past, had significantly difficult times finding it due to his unfamiliarity with Earth. As smaller creatures found this nutrient by accident as "junk" in their eyes, they were quick to willingly part with it to Grandis as offerings to either appease Grandis' feeding habits so that he wouldn't be forced to turn against them, or at least could perhaps be convinced to do acts of divine intervention against those who personally got Grandis' attention. However, only a very small fraction of individuals ever got this latter reaction from him; none of which through the offerings.
* PhysicalGod: Already one by default considering he's an Ultimorian Deity, but when viewed from the MouseWorld perspective this version of Grandis is noted for, his power scaling goes up at least several tiers higher than he would otherwise be considering the significantly smaller sizes of the characters he interacts with when compared to other humans.
* StoryBreakerPower: The reason why Grandis' actual divine intervention among the mouse world were simply because he needed a hefty amount of nutrients to pull them off, and a majority of the time the offerings were simply never enough to act for too long. As a direct result, this only occurred when Grandis had stockpiled enough energy and deemed any particular individual as worthy of his own attention.
