-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaoriNazuka
The first and main protagonist of ''Flowers.'' Suoh Shirahane is a shy, socially-anxious girl known for her bookwormish tendencies and cool, mature beauty. Debuts in ''Flowers: Le volume sur Printemps'' and returns as the main character of ''Flowers: Le volume sur Hiver''.
----
* AbusiveParents: Or parent. Suoh's step-mother scarred her so badly that Suoh has a panic attack thinking of her years after her father divorced her.
* AccidentalInnuendo: Has a tendency of tripping into these. When asked about a suitable punishment for failing Sister Dalia's ballet test, Suoh has the option of posing a "heated one-on-one session" as an answer. Likewise, Suoh accidentally suggests that she would be a nude model for the Fine Arts club if Mayuri joined it.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: And how! Suoh picks up on and recalls minor details that are almost ridiculously obscure when solving the many mysteries that plague the academy. This gains her a fair amount of admiration among the cast.
* CharacterCheck: Ever since Mayuri disappeared at the end of ''Printemps'', most of her actions are motivated by her desire to find her no matter what. As such, Erika and Yuzuriha correctly point out that she didn't truly let go of the past despite having grown out of her shyness. By ''Hiver'', [[spoiler:Suoh herself acknowledges that unlike the rest of her friends, she didn't really change on the inside. Only by the later half of the story, she eventually reveals her struggle and lingering feelings for Mayuri to her friends and becomes stronger.]]
* ClassicalAntiHero: She's a kindhearted girl who suffers from severe self-loathing issues, and gradually overcomes them over the course of the series.
* CommonalityConnection: Quickly forms a bond with Erika Yaegaki despite her rather [[InsufferableGenius blunt personality]], due to their shared tastes in movies and litterature.
* CowardlyLion: Despite being a timid and easily frightened girl, she manages to confront her fear and doubts, eventually gathering her very own circle of friends by the end of ''Printemps''.
* CreepyChild: Somewhat. Whilst Suoh is ultimately a very sweet girl, she is incredibly socially awkward, and addicted to horror movies and novels, as well as frightening her friends. It's quite telling the person she most identifies within The Bible is ''Judas Iscariot''.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Though she isn't so clumsy that it's one of her character quirks, Suoh is notably clumsier than the other members of the cast.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Suoh's mother passed away when she was very young, and her strict step-mother, a pianist who taught Suoh how to play, was heavily implied to be mentally and emotionally abusive to the point where Suoh feels physically ill even thinking about pianos. As if that wasn't bad enough, Suoh's first and only experience with public education ended with bullying and teasing, resulting in her withdrawing and being home-schooled until her decision to enroll in Saint Angraecum Academy.
** ''Hiver'' delves deeper into her past, in which it is revealed her step-mother subjected her to CorporalPunishment each time she failed to play perfectly. It eventually went so bad that each day, she would fake sleeping in order to escape her morning lessons. After three years, her father realized what she did to his daughter and divorced her on the spot, and Suoh was taken in by her grandfather, who teached her how to erase her step-mother's shadow.
* {{Determinator}}: Is going to make friends at the academy no matter what it takes! On a more depressing note, Suoh will do anything to find out what happened to Mayuri, something that would push her to become [[spoiler:the new President of the Council of Nicaea]] and drive her actions in ''Hiver''.
* ExtremeDoormat: At the beginning of the game. During her fated encounter with Rikka, Suoh is barely able to introduce herself before running away; the same thing occurs when she meets Mayuri for the second time at the entrance ceremony. Her social anxiety is most evident during her first day at the Academy, but as the game progresses, Suoh slowly learns to overcome it.
* FirstLove: Suoh is the first person Rikka fell in love with, but it didn't last long due to her forceful approach and lack of reciprocity on Suoh's part.
** In ''Hiver'', she's revealed to be [[spoiler:Erika's first crush, being her very first friend and savior who helped her escape from her loneliness.]]
* FlowerMotifs: Chinese redbud (literally the meaning of her name). Symbolizes aspiration, modesty... and ironically, betrayal, because it's also called the Judas tree. [[spoiler:The betrayal part comes in light with her actions in ''Hiver'', which causes her to lie and hide her search for Mayuri to her friends.]]
* FriendlessBackground: Because of her difficulties with social interactions, she had no friends before she came to Saint Angraecum Academy.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Suoh, of all people, goes out of her way in ''Automne'' to [[spoiler:snap Yuzuriha out of her HeroicBsod after falling out with Nerine during the Werewolf case. Seeing Suoh's rare determination for the first time, Yuzuriha regains enough strength to save Nerine.]]
* HiddenDepths: Suoh's favorite movies are ''Film/TheShawshankRedemption'' and ''Film/{{Gladiator}}'', and she absolutely adores zombies.
* HimeCut: Suoh has one. Her hair is described as being "black as a wet crow", and it's implied that she's envious of Nerine for her long blonde hair. This doesn't stop Suoh from being considered exceptionally beautiful, however.
* HonorBeforeReason: A minor example. Suoh will always keep her promises, even her goals would have her do something else entirely.
* IAmNotPretty: Practically every character comments on Suoh's beauty at some point, but Suoh's self-esteem is so low that she not only doesn't believe them but goes on to wonder why they would ''lie to her like that''.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: She decided to attend Saint Angraecum Academy in the hope that the Amitié system would help her find friends. She eventually does over the course of the series.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Most, if not all of the cast, consider Suoh the most innocuous and sweetest girl of the Academy. [[spoiler:Later downplayed in ''Hiver'', in which she actively hides her true goal of finding Mayuri to her friends, out of concern for them. In the later half, she eventually reveals it in order to gather more help.]]
* TheIngenue: Due to her lack of proper interactions with people, she has a romanticized view on the world, usually imagining life like a novel or movie. As such, she's often perceived as naive and innocent by the likes of Erika and Yuzuriha, who also consider it to be a part of her charm.
* LovedByAll: After getting her own circle of friends by ''Automne'', she's loved by everyone else as the single most kindhearted girl of the school, to the point they would immediately go to her help when she faces problems in ''Hiver''.
* LuminescentBlush: It's not an exaggeration to say that Suoh spends most of the series blushing.
* MeaningfulName: 'Suoh' is the Japanese word for Sappanwood, also known as the Judas Tree. This fact is integral to the first mystery in ''Printemps''.
* MoralityPet: As the first friend of Erika, she's one of the few people who gets to know her nicer side.
* TheMovieBuff: She's a living encyclopedia of movies, to the point she's often seen quoting them at random and suggesting many of them to her friends.
* NiceGirl: Suoh is the sweetest member of the cast. She immediately thinks of Erika as someone who needs protecting even after Erika in spite of her personnality; Suoh even considers a pre-character-development Chidori a kind, considerate person, and easily forgives Rikka for leveraging Mayuri's big secret to force her into a relationship. In turn, her ever ending kindness is also the main reason much of the cast look up to her as a dear friend.
* NightmareFetishist: Her favourite genre of movies are ZombieApocalypse settings, with a special mention for Creator/GeorgeARomero.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Realizes this upon discovering Mayuri's past, due to being raised by a single parent. In the end, this is what ultimately resolves the love triangle; Mayuri and Suoh's tragic pasts are similar enough that they can understand and fall in love with each other.
* ObliviousToLove: Absolutely doesn't pick up on Rikka's feelings for her until it becomes a plot point in ''Printemps''. In general, she's slow on the uptake to see feelings of love other than herself, such as Chidori's crush on Erika in ''Été'', [[spoiler:Tsuwabuki's crush on Rikka]] and [[spoiler:Erika's crush on ''her'']] in ''Hiver''.
* PlatonicLifePartners: She considers Erika her most important friend, due to the special circumstances of their first meeting, their similar status as social outcasts, and their love of books and movies.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: In ''Hiver'', [[spoiler:Mayuri's disappearance left such a mark on her that she stems with horror over the idea of Rikka leaving her side for Tsuwabuki, who has a crush on her.]]
* PositiveFriendInfluence: Suoh's kindness and selflessness rubs off her circle of friends starting from ''Été'', with all of them becoming better persons thanks to her influence, especially Erika.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She delivers a very short, yet ''scathing'' one to Rikka in ''Printemps''.
-->'''Suoh''': You're a coward...
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Mayuri's Red, an affable and tomboyish girl she looks up to.
* SilkHidingSteel: She becomes more strong-willed and determined in ''Automne'', all for the sake of finding Mayuri's whereabouts.
* ShrinkingViolet: Poor Suoh is plagued by social anxiety and a general lack of social skills, coupled with an intense desire to make friends and emotional connections. Spends a good chunk of the game blushing, stammering, and trying but failing to get close to her classmates.
* TheSmartGirl: Regarded as such for her uncanny ability to solve school mysteries, to the point where Erika comments that she's "pulling a Suoh" when she begins to solve mysteries of her own in the second game. She also happens to be a walking encyclopedia from all her years of homeschooling.
* StageFright: What her conflict is in the Festival arc. It's rooted in something deeper and darker but manifests itself as such.
* TookALevelInBadass: Goes from a silent and socially awkward individual to [[spoiler:the new president of the Council of Nicaea]] by the end of ''Automne''.
* TheWoobie: Where to begin with Suoh? Her DarkAndTroubledPast and social anxiety disorder give her no end of trouble, her only real family is her grandfather, and she's never had a friend before coming to the academy. Though eager to make connections with her classmates, her lack of experience with social interaction and general shyness keep her from doing so until weeks into the school year. Thankfully, things get much better for her if the player makes the correct decisions throughout the game.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Has shades of this. Though soft-spoken and demure, she eventually grows and becomes savvy enough to convince Rikka to help investigate the Bloody Mary mystery and by the end of the first game has taken strides toward overcoming her social anxiety.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyaneSakura
A self-described misanthrope with a mischievous streak and a sharp tongue. A disabled, cynical loner and Suoh's bookworm buddy. The protagonist of the second game, ''Flowers: Le volume sur Été''.
----
* ACupAngst: Occasionally sulks about her flat-chestedness compared to characters like Suoh.
* ADayInTheLimelight: [[spoiler:During the fifth chapter of ''Hiver'', she becomes the protagonist again during her confrontation against Yuzuriha and Nerine, as part of Suoh's plan to sneak into Sister Basquiat't room. The scene also gives a deeper insight about her relationship with Suoh, who turned out to be her FirstLove.]]
* AnimalMotifs: Her large eyes and smile are noted to be reminiscent of a cat, which her aloof personality only contributes to.
* AntiHero: She's more caring for her friends than her overall abrasiveness and blunt character would suggest at first glance. Better seen in ''Été'', where she's the protagonist and depicted as a well-meaning person despite being largely cynical and prone to mocking others.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: She becomes Suoh's most prominent friend at the beginning of ''Printemps'', being one of the few people who tolerates her bad attitude to a degree and the first who actively reached to her. [[spoiler:Turns out to be the very reason she fell in love with her for some time, because she helped her becoming a better person and growing out of her shell.]]
* BrainsAndBrawn: Almost word by word, she quickly establishes herself as the Brains to Chidori's Brawn.
* BrutalHonesty: Part of the reason she usually ends up alone, because of her tendency to pick on "people's weaknesses". On the other hand, it is one of the main reasons Suoh seeks her advice.
* CheshireCatGrin: She usually sports a wide smile every time she comes up with a funny remark, and is described as her signature "cat smile".
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: She's far more foul-mouthed and cynical in her narration and behavior than the gentle and meek Suoh, while also being a social outcast and bookworm like her, albeit for very different reasons.
* TheCynic: Noted by the cast to always have something cynical to say with her usual cat smile.
* DeadpanSnarker: Expect her to make some witty remark to someone at least once every time she appears.
* DefrostingIceQueen: For all that she tries to hold herself aloof, Erika can't stop herself from warming up to the cast.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: She's the second most prominent character in ''Hiver'', and the one who supports Suoh the most in her research.
* DisabledSnarker: Perhaps due to her condition binding her to a wheelchair, she's fond of crude and self-deprecating jokes, much to her friends' discomfort.
* DismissingACompliment: She cannot contemplate the idea of people thanking her or complimenting her for anything and quickly blushes in embarassment whenever someome does so. Later exploited by several of her friends as one of her few weaknesses.
* EatingTheEyeCandy: Erika loudly and shamelessly declares her appreciation for Nerine's looks upon their first meeting. Likewise, Erika has no qualms checking out Chidori and Sister Dalia when the opportunity arises.
* ForTheFunnyz: She tends to make jokes at random, including serious moments in order to break the tension.
* FlowerMotifs: Heather (the meaning of her name), symbolizing solitude, rest, modesty, and benevolence.
* {{Foil}}: Is ultimately one to Rikka. They both act as Suoh's close confidantes, but one is very socially inward, the other, almost always the center of attention. Rikka ends up becoming a borderline FalseFriend to Suoh, trying to get close by hurting the target of her affections out of jealousy becoming the ArcVillain of the first game, whilst Erika has UndyingLoyalty to her BestFriend, supports her fully from the start about her relationship with Mayuri, and ''never'' once betrays her. It's no coincidence they really don't like each other, and Erika knew what Rikka really was from the start. Largely {{Downplayed}} by ''Automne'', in which Rikka effectively becomes a true confidant to Suoh and stands with her as a friend.
* TheGadfly: Cheekily teases the cast for her own amusement, with Rikka and Suoh being the most common victims. She'll awkwardly apologize if she's sensed she went too far, though.
* GeniusCripple: While disabled, she's one of the most briliant characters of the cast.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Unable to bear Suoh bottling up her grief over Mayuri's disappearance in ''Été'', she promptly forces her to confront her true feelings, in order to motivate her to continue searching for her whereabouts.
* HiddenDepths: Admits that she'd like to sing Brody's ''Immigrant Song'' and is an avid fan of baseball.
* HotForTeacher: Most of the cast finds Sister Dalia attractive, but Erika is the closest to her in the entire class. Sister Dalia is even ''Été'' 's non-canon route, and Erika has feelings for her during the True Route as well.
* InsistentTerminology: Would not call Suoh her friend under any circumstances, but her "bookworm buddy". Even becoming part of Suoh's circle of friends by ''Automne'', she gets embarrassed at the idea of calling any of them a friend.
* InsufferableGenius: She's one of the smartest girls of the cast, and usually makes a point of reminding people of her vast knowledge.
* ItAmusedMe: One of her main joys in life is to ease her boredom is to do outreageous things and practical jokes solely for her own amusement. Later downplayed by the time she befriends the main cast, though she isn't above cracking a joke from time to time.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Defines Erika to a tee. Though often rude, abrasive, and troublesome, Erika is still the first person Suoh turns to in times of need and always manages to give good advice. Erika also has a soft spot for the twins, though that doesn't stop her from teasing them relentlessly.
* LastNameBasis: When any of Suoh's friends call her by her first name while complimenting her, she usually gets flustered while insisting using her last name as a matter of politeness, before eventually resigning herself to be called Erika in ''Hiver''.
* LonerTurnedFriend: While she considers Suoh a comrade in being a social outcast and bookworm, Erika is slow to warm up to the other members of the cast. By the fourth game, however, she's well and truly integrated into the freshman class.
* OfficialCouple: She ultimately ends up with Chidori, her Amitié partner.
* PetTheDog: Downright sweet to Suoh, compared to how she acts to everyone else. Proves to be a loyal friend and confidant to Suoh when it comes to things that she can't share with even her Amitiés.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Ever since Suoh became her first true friend in the Academy, she considers her the most important person in her life and makes a point of supporting her whenever she faces problems. Chidori also becomes one to her in the non-canon ''More Than Friends'' ending, although it is suggested they would end up together regardless.
* PromotedToPlayable: Erika becomes a protagonist in the second installment, Été, and maintains a strong presence in the third and fourth games, ''Automne'' and ''Hiver''.
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the cynical and snarky Red to both Suoh's Blue (her best friend, who's timid and kind) and Chidori's Blue (her Amitié partner, who's more naive and unaware of the outside world.)
* TheSmartGirl: As expected of Suoh's bookworm buddy. While solving mysteries is an Innocent Grey staple, Erika also has the dubious honor of being the instigator of the first mystery in the ''Flowers'' series, which is difficult to solve without Google and a walkthrough.
* SnarkKnight: Erika's witty, biting comments practically define her. She's not too big to make self-deprecating jokes about herself, either.
* StarterVillain: She's behind the very first mystery of ''Printemps'', in which she almost got Rikka punished for stealing books on a whim. She does regret her actions later on, even though she remembers it as a very entertaining experience.
* TookALevelInKindness: Her very first act in ''Printemps'' is to cause an incident which almost causes Rikka to be suspended just to test her classmates. She then goes through a long string of events in ''Été'' and ''Automne'' who cement her as a rude, yet well-meaning person behind her harsh words and a surprisingly good confident to Suoh.
* TricksterGirlfriend: Becomes this to Chidori upon becoming an item with her.
* {{Tsundere}}: A classic by the book example, as behind her overall harshness and abrasiveness, she really is caring about her friends (especially Suoh) in her own roundabout way.
-->'''Erika''': S-Stupid. Don't get so chummy. I was just being nice...

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KeiMizusawa
A second year and president of the Council of Nicaea, which is the equivalent of the academy's student council. Yuzuriha is also a member of the cooking club and choir. Theatrical, athletic, and flirtatious, there isn't much that Yuzuriha can't do... besides cooking, that is. The protagonist of the third game, ''Flowers: Le volume sur Automne''.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: [[spoiler: Is deeply in love with Nerine, who may or may not return her feelings at the end of ''Automne''.]]
* TheAce: As stated, there isn't much that Yuzuriha can't do. In addition to being the head of the Council of Nicaea, she's a talented singer, pianist, and athlete. The only thing that she can't seem to succeed in is cooking, though even then she shows room for growth.
* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:Near the end of ''Automne'', she's more confortable with her quirky, eccentric character she built over the years, and accepts all of it as her true personality thanks to her friends' support.]]
* BeneathTheMask: Behind her lovable and goofy personality hides a [[spoiler:profoundly cynical and resigned individual, who always stood at her ChildhoodFriend's side out of love, despite her faith and personal beliefs against homosexuality.]]
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Acts more boyishly than anyone else in the cast and even uses the personal pronoun "boku" in addition to adding "-kun" to the ends of her friends' names. Even Suoh is drawn to her princely appearance and flirtatious ways before becoming more familiar with her.
* ButNotTooForeign: Her grandfather was British, but she was born and raised in Tokyo. Being a quarter-British is apparently enough to give her silver hair, however.
* ByronicHero: By contrast with both Suoh and Erika, [[spoiler:she combines several of their respective flaws to be a brooding, melancholic and cynical person with a strong passion and unrequited love for Nerine.]]
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: On the surface, she appears to have a good dynamic with Erika due to their shared love for crude and self-deprecating jokes. However, she's also [[spoiler:secretly grieving because of her unrequited love for her ChildhoodFriend who doesn't accept a lesbian relationship, and essentially built her entire self around her.]]
* CoolBigSis: She's a total weirdo and most of the underclassmen are slightly exasperated by her antics, but Yuzuriha undoubtedly acts as this for Suoh and the Sasaki twins.
* ChildhoodFriends: She's friends with Nerine ever since elementary school, and they didn't separate at all up to the present day in ''Printemps''.
* CrypticBackgroundReference: Near the end of ''Automne'', [[spoiler:she accepts to reveal some elements behind the Goddess of Truth to Suoh in order to help her find Mayuri, but she stays vague on certains things.]]
* TheCynic: Unexpectedly, the theatrical, jovial Yuzuriha is quite prone to being this, usually hiding it behind jokes.
* EmptyShell: [[spoiler:Was one during her childhood, being a social outcast at school with no friends, until a chance encounter with a shining and charismatic Nerine gave her a goal in life: To be with her no matter what, and later took on her personality traits when she was stricken by illness in her middle school years.]]
* EvenGirlsWantHer: Not unexpected considering Yuzuriha's looks, personality, and the series's setting, but Yuzuriha always turns down the girls who confess to her because she's [[spoiler: in love with Nerine.]]
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Out of the three protagonists of the series, she stands out as the most charismatic and popular student of the school, comfortable with social interactions, while being the president of the Council of Nicaea in her second year. She also knows about [[spoiler:the whereabouts of Mayuri Kohsaka and the existence of Sion Basquiat.]]
* FlowerMotifs: Daphniphyllum (yuzuriha), a kind of flowering shrub native to China. A symbol of rejuvenation and inheritance.
* TheGadfly: She enjoys doing outrageous and crude jokes at random just to get a good reaction out of people, especially Suoh and the twins.
* UsefulNotes/JapaneseChristian: One of the few characters in this ostensibly Christian school who is actually Christian, alongside Nerine. Unusually, it doesn't appear to cause her any issues with regards to her sexuality.
* TheLadette: She leans heavily on the masculine side, be it with her crude jokes, lack of feminine appeal, tomboyish personality and being good at physical activities.
* LargeHam: Oh, Yuzuriha. She's known for being theatrical and enjoys acting as a goofy individual; [[spoiler: ''Automne'' reveals this to just be an act as part of her mask shown to others.]]
* LethalChef: Despite being in the cooking club, Yuzuriha has absolutely no talent for cooking. This is especially frustrating for her because she's so good at everything else. But Yuzuriha is working on it, and with Suoh's help and persistent practice, even manages to make something edible.
* NayTheist: She believes in the existence of God, but she's not too fond of Him.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Yuzuriha is very informal and quick to be affectionate to those around her. She makes a habit of finding new and incredibly touchy ways to greet Suoh and later Erika in ''Été''. At one point, she even licks sauce off of Suoh's cheek!
* PromotedToPlayable: Introduced in the first game and upgrades to protagonist in the third.
* RedOniBlueOni: With Nerine. Yuzuriha, for all her popularity, is well-known as the school weirdo and is regarded as such by most of the cast. Nerine, on the other hand, is the definition of TheOjou.
* RogueProtagonist: [[spoiler:Reappears in ''Hiver'' and quickly antagonizes Suoh because she was digging too much onto the Tulpa of Agape and the Goddess of Truth.]]
* SadClown: Happy go-lucky on the outside, [[spoiler:grieving on the inside due to her relationship with Nerine.]]
* SatelliteCharacter: Discussed in ''Automne''. [[spoiler:Most of her character and personality is entirely constructed around Nerine to protect her from harm. She acknowledges herself as an empty person devoid of feelings, who thrown away her former self to become what she is now, all for her best friend's sake.]]
* ShootTheDog: [[spoiler:Her first appearance in ''Hiver'' after months of absence has her pushing Erika off her wheelchair on accident, while rationalizing it as a warning to protect Suoh and her from the "true danger" of the Tulpa of Agape.]]
* StudentCouncilPresident: And she has all the talent and prestige that comes with it. However, she is also a member of the choir and cooking club.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: [[spoiler:Her cynicism and resignation regarding her desire to be with Nerine comes to a head during the climax of ''Automne'' when she takes the blame for the Werewolf case. Afterwards, she utterly refuses to leave her room out of sheer despair, and glimpses of her true personality began to appear, even alienating her friends who attempted to help her.]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Rie Okamoto
One of Suoh's Amitié partners and the object of her admiration. An easy-going and charismatic girl whose warm personality draws Suoh in. Though Suoh is the main character of the series, Mayuri is the axis around which the story revolves.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Despite being dearly important to Suoh as one of her Amitié and the True Route of the first game, and thus, Suoh's canon partner, she only shows up in two games and doesn't get as much screentime as Rikka in ''Printemps''.
* AmbiguousSituation: The very reason behind Mayuri's disappearance is the series' most prominent and ambiguous mystery ever since the end of ''Printemps'', as no clear reason has been given to explain it other than the famed Goddess of Truth legend.
** ''Automne'' goes further by introducing [[spoiler:the Tulpa of Agape and Sion Basquiat to the list, both of them being somewhat related to her disappearance, but Yuzuriha refrains from saying more out of concern for Suoh.]]
* AntennaHair: It's subtle, but Mayuri has two cowlicks on the crown of her head.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Though her appearance and hobbies aren't particularly masculine, Suoh makes a point of noticing that she has several attractive and androgynous qualities, though not to the extent of Yuzuriha.
* FlowerMotifs: White lilies, symbolizing purity, dignity, and the Virgin Mary. (And obviously, yuri.)
* {{Gayngst}}: Mayuri gets hit ''hard'' with this. She overcomes it after confessing to Rikka, and even has a loving relationship with Suoh in the True Route that lasts until her disappearance at the end of ''Printemps''.
* InSeriesNickname: The Sasaki twins call her 'Yuri'.
* UsefulNotes/JapaneseChristian: Unlike most of the rest of the cast, Mayuri is an actual Christian and not just someone going to a Christian school. Her family are devoted Catholics and she herself believes in God, but her faith clashes completely with her sexuality. [[spoiler: In contrast to Nerine, she's able to reconcile her faith with her sexuality, and remains fairly devote by the end of the series.]]
* LoveConfession: Gives one to Rikka. It doesn't go well, but she earns Suoh's empathy and reconciles with her in doing. And then again to Suoh, after the Feast of the Assumption.
* TheOneThatGotAway: For Suoh at the end of ''Printemps''. [[spoiler:Thankfully, she comes back...Albeit not in the way one would expect.]]
* PutOnABus: Following her disappearance, she isn't seen again, but Yuzuriha hints to Suoh at the possibility of her getting back into school.
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard to talk about her when her disappearance is Suoh's driving motivation after ''Printemps''.
* WhenSheSmiles: An example of GameplayAndStorySegregation, as many of her sprites show her smiling. However, Suoh's narration reveals that a smile from Mayuri is quite rare.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Yûri Akeshima
Suoh's second Amitié partner and the freshman class's president. A thoughtful, responsible, and gentle girl who takes pride in being able to accomplish the tasks entrusted to her. Because she's so serious, many of the more mischievous cast members make a point of teasing her.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Is a point in the series's only true love triangle. She's deeply in love with Suoh, but Suoh likes Mayuri. Ironically, Mayuri is in love with Rikka for the first half of the game.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Her younger brother is this for her. This has given her a pretty severe inferiority complex.
* ArcVillain: Becomes this towards Suoh in ''Printemps'', being the one responsible for her suffering in the latter half of the story.
* TheAtoner: Heavily implied to be the case ever since the end of ''Printemps'', maintaining a strong emotional support for Suoh and comforting her while making a point of ''not'' attempting to date her again, despite being teased to do so by Erika and Yuzuriha both in ''Été'' and ''Automne''.
* BetterAsFriends: After learning of Suoh and Mayuri's past near the end of ''Printemps'', she eventually decides to break up with Suoh, given her unrequited feelings and toxic relationship. In the rest of the series, she seems content as Suoh's Amitié partner and staying by her side.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: It's hardly fair to call her a "bitch" but the sheer emotional abuse (and manipulation) she puts Suoh through in the first game qualifies her for this, despite her initial innocent appearance.
* CharacterDevelopment: She went from a no-nonsense class representative with an obsession for being first who resorted to {{Blackmail}} to date Suoh, to a supportive person who accepts to bend rules for her Amitié's partner well-being and newly found friends.
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Suoh. Doesn't like it when the Sasakis pull Suoh away for cooking club and really doesn't like that Suoh is so fascinated by Mayuri.
* EasilyForgiven: Suoh and Mayuri don't hold her any ill will for what she did. The narrative doesn't punish her for blackmailing Mayuri and coercing Suoh either...besides the fact Suoh will never return her feelings, and that her and Mayuri will become lovers. Throughout the series, it is all but implied that she cannot forgive herself for what she did and never attempted to date Suoh again, despite teasing from others and Mayuri's disappearance.
* FlowerMotifs: Poppies, which symbolize both wishes and rejection in hanakotoba.
* FreudianExcuse: She's been second-best more or less all her life, and her insecurities catch up with her when she loses the role of the Virgin Mary to Mayuri and it becomes clear that Suoh prefers Mayuri over her. The threat of being second in Suoh's affections causes Rikka to snap and threaten to expose Mayuri as a lesbian in order to coerce Suoh into a relationship with her.
* GoGetterGirl: Class president, choir club singer, academic powerhouse, and all-around nice girl! She hosts tea and birthday parties frequently and pays for the refreshments out of her own pocket. It's implied that Rikka pushes herself so hard because of her family's expectations.
* HopelessSuitor: Though she has a route of her own in ''Printemps'', the True Route has her as this for Suoh. It becomes all the more hopeless in later installments, as Suoh's relationship with Mayuri is the overarching plot that connects the games, but Rikka doesn't seem to mind.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Rather telling about her true personality, is as soon as she hears Mayuri is a lesbian, she starts plotting a way to blackmail her, without a single thought about how she feels. Suoh calls her out on it.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Let go of Suoh following the end of ''Printemps'', content with simply being at her side as her friend.
* KarmaHoudini: She doesn't face any punishment for her actions in ''Printemps'', but it left her with lingering guilt that would influence her to be a genuine and supportive friend to Suoh.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Has a sprite that's exactly this, especially when ghosts or tea parties are involved.
* TookALevelInKindness: Ever since ''Été'', she mellowed out to become more tolerant and flexible of Erika and the twins' antics, out of concern for Suoh's well-being. In ''Hiver'', she even surprises Suoh, who always thought of her as a law abiding and overly serious girl until Chidori points it out to her.
-->'''Suoh''': When it comes to rules, Rikka is way more-
-->'''Chidori''': Actually, she's pretty flexible on several things. I always thought you were the disciplinarian one for some time.

The energetic and gregarious elder sister of the Sasaki twins. Curious and mischievous with a penchant for pranks, Ichigo is a member of the cooking club and along with her sister, has the coveted honor of being Suoh's first friend.
----
* BookDumb: She doesn't really shine in academic fields, but she shows to be quite versatile for cooking, social gatherings and acting.
* CuriousAsAMonkey: Likes to ask questions and investigate. This gets her into trouble or makes trouble for her friends more often than not, but Ichigo (and by extension, Ringo) are always easily forgiven.
* FlowerMotifs: Strawberry flowers, of course.
* TheGadfly: Along with her sister. Ichigo often says and does things with the sole intent of making her friends blush. One of her pranks results in one of the more worrying mysteries in ''Printemps''. Her motive? She and her sister wanted to transfer out of the academy but decided to play one last prank to see how everyone would react before they do. Thankfully, Suoh solving the case convinces them out of it, but the main trio are terrified for her before the mystery is solved.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:''Automne'' reveals more about her character, who's often overshadowed by her sister due to being perceived as the dumbest one of the two. She also secretly resents her for also having a crush on Yuzuriha like her, and thus confesses to her under the guise of her sister whom she can actually imitate.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Ichigo's enthusiasm comes hand in hand with an inability to read the mood.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Upon seeing Suoh and her friends desperately searching for her twin in ''Printemps'', she comes to realizes how much Suoh values them as their friend.
* TheNicknamer: Comes up with many for the members of the cast. Calls Mayuri 'Yuri' and Chidori 'Chidorin'.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Ichigo is the oldest student in the freshman class. This trope also applies to Ringo, but since Ichigo is the older twin...
* TwinSwitch: As seen during ''Printemps'', she and her sister can perfectly switch their places whenever they feel like it, in order to play pranks on their friends.

----

* {{Bookworm}}: Along with Suoh and Erika. The three of them even have a discussion about a novel in ''Printemps.''
* FlowerMotifs: Apple blossoms, naturally.
* TheGadfly: Not as much as her sister, but she would gleefully join her in any of her organized pranks.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyaSuzaki
A talented ballet dancer with a tendency to ask after things she shouldn't. She seems unapproachable and has diva-like tendencies. Erika's Amitié partner, who makes her first appearance in ''Été'' as a new transfer student.
----
* BrainsAndBrawn: The Brawn to Erika's Brains, after becoming her friend and caretaker.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Has this in spades with Erika. They spend a great deal of time in ''Été'' and ''Automne'' bickering with each other.
* DeathGlare: Many of her default sprites have her glowering from under her bangs, and in-universe, her nasty expression is one of the reasons why students find her unapproachable. In truth, Chidori is making that face because she needs glasses and can't really see.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Tells Erika that she'd rather not waste time speaking with her when they first meet. By the end of ''Été'', Chidori is downright mushy over her.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Erika first encounters her when she's singing alone in the dormitory backyard, and is facsinated by her appearance and voice...Up until she reveals herself to be a crude and insenstive woman with poor social awareness.
* FlowerMotifs: Plum blossoms, a symbol of refinement, devotion, and endearment.
* GreenEyedMonster: Is this when she realizes that she has feelings for Erika, but that Erika has feelings for Sister Dalia. Unfortunately, she takes her frustration about this development out on Erika.
* HateAtFirstSight: She starts her new year in the Academy with a rocky encounter with Erika and quickly antagonizes her while being her Amitié partner. She then slowly gets accustomed to her presence and witty remarks over time, before warming up to her as a genuine friend.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Her lack of social awareness causes her to hurt other people without realizing it, such as Suoh at the very beginning of ''Été'', which in turn kickstarts her CharacterDevelopment through her interactions with Erika.
* InsultBackfire: Prone to this, especially with Erika. But for the most part she gives as good as she gets. By ''Automne'', she's familiar enough with Erika to come up with insults on her own.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Chidori is proud, curt, and has a tendency to speak before thinking. She manages to upset even ''Suoh'' when she transfers in. But she means well for the most part, and her main motivation for ''Été'''s first mystery is to keep herself from upsetting Suoh again.
* PerpetualFrowner: Spends the vast majority of ''Été'' with a moody and unsmiling expression. She slowly gets better by the end, after getting to know the rest of the cast, and her very first scene in ''Automne'' has her sporting a bright smile.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Becomes this to Erika in ''More Than Friends'', and which she has a last talk with Erika before leaving the Academy for her career as a ballet dancer. It is heavily suggested they would end up together some time in the future, however.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Erika's Red.

----

* DumbBlonde: Downplayed. She's the Vice-president of the Council of Nicaea, something that requires to be among the very best of the Academy, but many of Yuzuriha's jokes and innuendos go over her.
* FlowerMotifs: Literally nerine, which is a kind of lycoris. Symbolizes pleasant memories, patience, reunions, and one who has led a sheltered life.

* ManipulativeBitch: [[spoiler:''Automne'' reveals she was already aware of Yuzuriha's unhealthy admiration for her ever since their childhood, and took advantage of it by making her do various tasks and whims just to "test the limits of their friendship". She eventually regrets it when Yuzuriha effectively becomes a Christian because she simply asked her to do so, and her subsequent illness in middle school considerably mellowed her out.]]
* NightmareFetishist: Performed the Bloody Mary ritual one year ago and was ''disappointed'' when nothing happened.
* OddFriendship: With Yuzuriha, surprisingly. Though they're close enough that many students believe they're dating, Suoh comments that Nerine and Yuzuriha are an odd pair.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Yuzuriha's Red. [[spoiler:Used to be reversed during their childhood.]]

Sister Dalia is remarkably laidback for a nun and seems more like a sister figure to the cast than an instructor.

----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She has a noticeably darker skin than the rest of the cast, suggesting she's of mixed-race.
* AscendedExtra: Despite having no proper appearance in the series, her popularity eventually made way for two Drama [=CDs=] featuring her and Dalia during their time as students, and her appearance was eventually shown in concept arts.
* ChildhoodFriends: In the past, she was Dalia's Amitié partner and first friend.
* FasterThanTheyLook: She's the true identity of the Wendigo in ''Automne'', and easily outspeeded Yuzuriha, who's no slouch herself.
* TheGhost: Is mentioned several times across the series as the Academy's dorm mother, complete with several offscreen appearances, but she doesn't have a sprite proper.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She doesn't show much muscle, but she proves to be competent and physically fit as a result of being dorm mother for several years. Best exeplified when she fled from Yuzuriha in ''Automne'', ''while disguised and carrying a large bag''.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: She likes to sew various items in her free time.

* KarmaHoudini: After finding out her role in the Shapeshifter incident, Suoh couldn't bring herself to reveal her involvement and plead to Yuzuriha to not denounce her either, due to her past experience in a LoveTriangle.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flowers_2021_12_03_163349_4.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Suoh's stepmother appeareance in flashbacks]]
The unnamed step-mother of Suoh, who's largely responsible for her lack of self-esteem and lingering trauma in ''Printemps'' and ''Hiver''. When Suoh's mother died young, her father decided to remarry not long after with a famous pianist that would become her new mother, alongside her son. At first, she proved to be a loving parent who teached her son and Suoh the fundamentals of piano. However, she was one day stricken by a disease who robbed her of her ability to play, and Suoh discovered herself a innate talent for piano, vastly surpassing her son.
\
Following this, she became an abusive and incredibly horrendous parent who mentally tortured her stepdaughter on a daily basis during spartan piano lessons, culminating in an incident during a concert, revealing the mental scars left on her mind. Suoh's father then immediately filed for divorce, putting an end to three years of relationship, while leaving Suoh to her grandfather. Despite being gone for several years, the lingering shadow of her step-mother causes her severe distress whenever she approches a piano in ''Printemps'', but she eventually grows out of it at the end thanks to Mayuri Kohsaka's support.
\
[[spoiler:She reappears at the beginning of ''Hiver'', born out of Suoh's insecurities created by the disappearance of Mayuri. In this regard, she represents Suoh's inner darkness and anxiety, giving her unsavory thoughts and paranoia whenever she feels distress.]]
----
* AbusiveParents: Her horrible treatment of Suoh over the course of three years made her the socially awkward and loner she was at the beginning of the series.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Part of the reason she was such a terrible parent to Suoh was possibly due to her being a better pianist than her son, whom she raised normally.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: She's always depicted wearing glasses during Suoh's flashbacks of her.
* TheGhost: She doesn't make any appearance in the story, except through Suoh's memories and trauma.
* ImaginaryEnemy: [[spoiler:Upon making her first appearance in ''Hiver'' as a shadow, she immediately proceeds to verbally abuse Suoh again, who actually resists her influence this time thanks to her friends and her grandfather's lessons.]]
* MyBelovedSmother: The closest thing Suoh had to a mother figure happened to be a horrible human being who mentally tortured her.
* SadistTeacher: She would use any excuse during piano lessons to punish Suoh.

[[caption-width-right:350:An old picture of Sion Basquiat]]
A mysterious individual whose existence is shrouded in mystery. They make their first appearance at the very end of ''Automne''...As a gravestone with their name engraved in it, located and hidden in a remote place from the Academy. The name is suspected at first to refer to Dalia's foster father, but ultimately revealed in ''Hiver'' to be a former student of the Academy, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Mayuri Kohsaka.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Nothing is known about Sion Basquiat, be it their past, relation to Dalia Basquiat and even their gender due to "Sion" being an unisex name, although Suoh suggests the likely possibility of them being Dalia's foster father, until further evidence confirms her to be a former student of the Academy who disappeared long ago.
* IdenticalStranger: For some reason, she looks eerily similar to Mayuri, as if she was her twin sister.
* LoveAtFirstSight: She fell in love with Sayuri Kifune upon first meeting her under the cherry blossoms, similar to how Rikka first met Suoh, who also met Mayuri the same way.
* MeaningfulName: Shion in Japanese refers to the aster tataricus, a flower loosely related to the Dahlias flowers. In hanakotoba, the Japanese language of flowers, it translates to "I won't forget you". Upon discovering an old picture of Sion in the specimen room, a similar message can be found behind it: "A memory of Sion that will never disappear."
* PosthumousCharacter: She's long gone by the beginning of the series.
* TheScottishTrope: Suoh mentioning her name to Dalia causes her to [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness abruptly interrupt her and not say anything, along with a very long glance.]]
* {{Sleepyhead}}: Sion was known to be a heavy sleeper, due to her sheltered life in the Basquiat family residence.
* TalkingInYourSleep: As a result, she sometimes can talk in her sleep, much to her embarassment.
* {{Unperson}}: All records of her existence have been erased, be it in any of the Academy's archives of former students and teachers up to the fundation of the school during the [[UsefulNotes/MeijiRestoration Meiji Era (1868-1912).]]

Formerly known as the Awashima Sanatorium, then Awashima Seminary, before becoming the Academy of Saint Angraecum as of today, the building was held by the Awashima Family, a former company which made fortune through the paper industry, before the end of the Meiji Era in which they lost almost all of their assets following the UsefulNotes/RussoJapaneseWar. Thanks to their connections with the Basquiat Family of priests, they managed to rebuilt their resources with their help, in exchange of giving the reins of the Awashima household to the Basquiat.
