[[caption-width-right:298:Dia holding a domesticated dragonfly.]]
The first Player character. Born in the slums of the former capital of Dandriss, Dia was skilled and ambitious enough rise quickly through the ranks of the military, but not well-connected enough to avoid getting a dead-end posting in a minor research outpost to make room for someone with more friends in high places. After the Starfall, Dia participated in a coup that deposed the former leader, and was handed power by the newly-elected replacement when he realized that he was out of his depth.

----
* ActionGirl
* AbdicateTheThrone: Eventually retires due to [[spoiler: Khornate corruption.]]
* BadassNormal: Goes up against eldar and daemons without enhancements or powers. This approach has mixed results.
** BadassAbnormal: After being empowered by [[spoiler:Khorne.]]
* BenevolentBoss: Remains calm and merciful to both her people and her enemies even in very trying situations.
** Dia hardens considerably after [[spoiler: being mind raped by the Dark Seer.]]
* TheCorruption: [[spoiler: Starts falling to Khorne after receiving a wound from a bloodletter.]]
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Dia starts out as a military officer with the skills to back it up.
* FourStarBadass: Dia is both a skilled commander and a force to be reckoned with on her own.
** Accentuated when telepaths started becoming a problem, as Dia was one of the minority who could resist them.
* GhostMemory: The eldar index, a collection of memories explaining the culture, nature, and powers of the eldar, was shoved inside Dia's head by the Worldsinger.
* HeroicWillpower: Is surprisingly resistant to mental attacks from the Eldar.
* MamaBear: Attacked a [[spoiler: Bloodthirster]] in melee combat to protect Mirande, and managed to actually damage it, at the cost of[[spoiler: accelerating her fall to Khorne]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Maxwell Aetos-Stone]]
!!Maxwell Aetos-Stone
[[quoteright:299:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxwell_aetos.jpg]]
Dia's husband. The eldest son of the Count of the Dragonflies, Maxwell was sent to marry Dia as part of the treaty to ensure their cooperation and eventual merger with Greengraft after their army surrendered to her. Maxwell is a skilled and ruthless politician, as befitting his noble upbringing, but at the same time, paradoxically sheltered from the post-apocalyptic world by the same upbringing.

[[spoiler:Maxwell dies at the hands of an Eldar-controlled Dia in the beginning of turn 21, kicking off the war with the Eldar and ushering in a new level of conflict for Greengraft]]
----
* AltarDiplomacy: His marriage with Dia.
* BestServedCold:It takes years, but Maxwell eventually gets his revenge for [[spoiler:the 504's assassination attempt on Dia]] with no one even suspecting his involvement.
** The only reason the readers know is due to WordOfGod.
* TheChessmaster: Quite skilled at intrigue.
* DecadentCourt:Seems to have grown up in one.
* FalseFlagOperation:[[spoiler:Tries to have the president of the 504 assassinated, and pins it on his father]]
* GutPunch:[[spoiler:His death heralds a serious shift in tone for the story]]
* HappilyMarried: Even when he becomes Count, his relationship with Dia remained good.
* PlayingWithPuppets:[[spoiler: Killed by hypnotized Dia because the Eldar controlling her was having too much fun to try to escape]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Anna Stone]]
!!Anna Stone
[[quoteright:297:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_stone.jpg]]
Dia's eldest daughter, by a few seconds, anyway. Permanently weak and sickly courtesy of a radiation-caused genetic condition, deeply paranoid, and living unknowingly in the shadow of her twin sister's psychic power, Anna's life was rarely an easy one. Eventually, she found her purpose in life with the death of [[spoiler: Maxwell]] at the hands of the eldar. Driven by anger and new-found devotion, she became a capable military commander.
----
* ActionGirl:Like Mother, like Daughter.
* ArtificialLimbs:[[spoiler:Has her arms and legs replaced with cybernetics the moment she reaches adulthood to mitigate her weakness.]]
* BestServedCold: Her hatred for the eldar motivates many of her policy decisions.
* BrainComputerInterface: Pilots her Mechs with one.
* MiniMecha: Pilots a refitted forestry Mech with cutting edge weaponry.
* ProperlyParanoid: Believes that the world is out to get her. Since the world in question is [[CrapsackWorld Warhammer]], she isn't too far off.
* TeachHimAnger: In a mild version, Anna often tries to get Mirande to be less patient with those who anger her.
* TheUnFavorite: Felt like this due to the huge amount of attention Mirande got compared to her, not knowing that it was necessary psyker training.
* WorkHardPlayHard: Anna splits her time between being the leader of her personal army of zealots, dodging plots, and organizing huge parties.

[[folder:Mirande Stone]]
!!Mirande Stone

[[quoteright:255:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mirande_stone_recropped.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:255:[[labelnote:Spoilers-Mirande after the timeskip]][[quoteright:248:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mirande_recolored_again.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]

The second player character. Anna's fraternal twin and technically younger sister, Mirande was a normal child, if a bit strong-willed. Then, at fourteen, she awakened as a psyker. Trained haphazardly with knowledge from the eldar index by Dia, Mirande was forced to suppress her desires to gain better control over her powers and herself. Growing up into a psyker of formidable skill, Mirande was quickly dragged into the deadly battle for the survival of Dandriss.
----
* ActionGirl: One of the most dangerous people on he planet.
* BlackMagic: Gained knowledge of sorcery from her mental battle with the [[spoiler:Lord of Change]]. It's existance is a constant temptation for her.
* ChromeChampion:[[spoiler: Inflicted on her by Danrdiss after she used the forest to defeat the Great Unclean Ones.]]
* CosmicPlaything:Despite her immense power, indomitable will, and unmatched skills, Mirande has been dragged from conflict to conflict for her entire adult life, and for every catastrophe she stops another inflicts itself on her family or people.
** Eventually implied to be a result of the attention of Tzeentch.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu?: Mirande is very good at taking down things she probably shouldn't be able to.
** Mirande kills a badly crippled [[spoiler:Lord Of Change]] when it tries to consume her soul by [[spoiler: consuming it instead]].
** Permanently kills a [[spoiler:Bloodthirster]] by stabbing with her force sword while it's distracted.
** Destroys the [[spoiler: Dark Seer]] with the force sword due to a single unlucky warp phenomena roll that bypassed it's immunity through[[spoiler: the Seer's temporary link with Mag.]]
** BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: Eventually, Mirande [[spoiler: Feeds three Great Unclean Ones to the warp-eating forest]] but the after-effects permanently weaken her powers, creates a new species of vicious wildlife, and [[spoiler:put her in a coma for 35 years]]
* EmbodimentOfVirtue: For Mirande, life was a choice between becoming this, [[TheDarkSide falling to Chaos]], or [[YourHeadASplode exploding]].
* FriendlySniper: At least, when her opponents aren't immune to bullets or capable of respawning.
* GhostMemory: From [[spoiler: the remnants of the Lord of Change and Dark Seer.]]
* MagicKnight: In combat, she mostly uses her powers to boost her ability with her force sword.
* MyBloodRunsHot: Eventually acquires violently combustible blood via mutation from corruption.
* SoulCuttingBlade: Her force sword, Memento Mori.
* PsychicPowers: Wields a wide variety. Mirande is specialized in divination, but also possesses [[MindProbe mind reading]] and [[SuperStrength biokinesis]].
* YourSoulIsMine: [[spoiler: To the Lord of Change and the Dark Seer.]]
[[/folder]]
!!Local Leaders
!!Authority
!!Other Humans

[[folder:Grave Keeper]]
!!Grave Keeper
A strange man who appeared in the wake of the starfall and made a name for himself by using his incredible stealth to protect the innocent, promote respect for the dead, and collect large piles of skulls. Those he protected eventually formed the religion of the Grave Tenders. The Grave Keeper is also in possession of some knowledge of the wider cosmology of 40k, and warned Dia of many supernatural threats.

----
* CreepyGood: A famous benevolent religious figure who's chief hobby is collecting skulls.
* StealthHiBye: His main means of communicating.
* StrangeSyntaxSpeaker: The Grave Keeper speaks (and writes) in a very disjointed fashion.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mag]]
!!Mag
A heroic nomad and uncontrolled psyker encountered by Mirande during her quest. Despite his kindness, Mag's subconscious desire for survival and companionship causes him to telepathically bind people to himself and use them as fuel for powerful fate-manipulation effects which preserve his life in the post-apocalyptic world of Dandriss.
----
* BlessedWithSuck: His unique ability to divert the dangerous effects of his powers to other people is one that any chaos cultist would kill for, but as far as Mag knows the only thing special about him is that his friends always die and he always lives.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu:Alongside Mirande
** Manages to Defeat the [[spoiler: Dark Seer]] in a telepathic duel and fatebond it, then destroy it with his own unstable powers, without even realizing what he's doing.
** Later destroys a [[spoiler:Great Unclean One]] with a nuke.
* DoomMagnet: Everyone Mag cares about is killed by his powers.
* {{Expy}}:Of Mad Max
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: If Mag ever found out what his power did, he would undoubtedly commit suicide. Thus, his power will not allow him to figure it out.
[[/folder]]

!!Eldar
[[folder:The Dark Seer]]
!!The Dark Seer
Leader of the Mainstream Eldar on Dandriss. Clad only in a cloak of captured souls and so warped that it's gender can no longer be determined, the the Dark Seer is an exemplar of Prefall Eldar: ancient beyond measure, sadistic beyond reason, and a pysker equal to a greater daemon. It cares only for entertainment, and it's power is such than even the other Eldar do it's bidding.
----

* AmbiguousGender: Somehow manages to remain androgynous while being ''completely nude''.
* EldritchAbomination: For all that it looks like an Eldar, to a pysker's soul senses the Seer is nothing more than a twisting hole in reality that devours others to sustain it.
** WordOfGod is that it will eventually become a greater daemon of Slaanesh mostly intact when the fall happens.
* ForTheEvulz
* MindOverMatter: A telekinetic strong enough to restrain entire armies.
* MindRape:The Dark Seer is both too strong to safely manipulate human minds and too amused by the effects to care.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: Regenerates from [[YourHeadAsplode explosive decapitation]], and ''thanks Dia for the experience''.
** BornAgainImmortality: Even if it fails to regenerate, it can still reincarnate like any other eldar.
* VillainTeleportation: Uses both the webway and sorcery.
* YourSoulIsMine: Collects souls to use for information, power, and as a means of enforcing it's will on the [[BornAgainImmortality constantly reincarnating]] Eldar.
** [[spoiler:Mirande absorbs part of it's soul when she kills it.]]
