* TearJerker:
** When Haruka discovers that she is being dragged through the mud by the media, it is absolutely heart-rending.
** The music video for "Tonight" at the karaoke clubs consists of screenshots from ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'' highlighting Akira Nishikiyama, Kiryu's old blood brother and, in happier times, his best friend.
*** Kiryu can also reflect on his time with Nishiki when talking to the hostess club girls, and sounds genuinely despondent at points.
** As smug as he is Someya's love for his ex wife and daughter is genuine, [[spoiler: killing himself in what appears to be a failed attempt to save Kyomi and begging Nagumo to take care of his daughter is one hard way to go.]]
** Kiryu reflecting how many parent he came across, some bond by tradition, some that never really loved their kid and how never spending time together as family led to so many heartbreaks and destruction. Kiryu decides to write a letter to the person he thinks he failed as a father: [[spoiler: Daigo Dojima, the boy he dragged into the Tojo clan against his wishes only for then distancing himself from Daigo and let him handle the problems that come with being Chairman alone.]]

* HeartwarmingMoments: Leading up to the American release of ''Yakuza 6'', Sega released a series of live-action shorts called "Stories of the Dragon" featuring people of Kamurocho recounting how Kiryu touched their lives, including [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO6XWI4mrmU a female cabaret club owner whose business Kiryu saved]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2giXsHAM1o an aspiring dancer whom Kiryu saved from thugs along with her stepfather]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO6XWI4mrmU an old man Kiryu saved from "homeless hunters"]].
** There are a number of small sidequests in-game that lean toward [[spoiler:Kiryu being quite fatherly and thoughtful outside of his growing relationship with Haruto; these include connecting with a young girl over her love of Haruka, and dispensing wisdom to a young woman seeking to become an idol, but not wanting to leave someone she loves behind]].
** Kiryu reuniting with the orphans after his time spent in prison.
** Nagumo's HeelFaceTurn is both this and funny, having him calling Kiryu aniki and swearing to help him no matter what.

* AntiClimaxBoss: The final boss of ''Yakuza 6'', [[spoiler: Tsuneo Iwami]], is near unanimously seen as the lamest final boss Kiryu has ever faced. While very much an InvokedTrope to display how much of a slimy, greedy and pathetic fool he is. Many find that the final major opponent of Kiryu's story, a simple fight with no real set pieces and against another overambitious {{jerkass}} to be a colossal disappointment no matter the developerss intent.[[note]] This is especially problematic given how no matter how weak or poorly developed the previous final-bosses were the fights against them were generally viewed as one of the, if not the best, fights of the games they are in.[[/note]] The only redeeming part of this fight to many players is that his [[AwesomeMusic boss theme]] kicks ass.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: ''Yakuza 6'' is the first game to be released with the current latest gameplay engine, whereas when the series undergoes engine changes it usually does so first with more experimental spinoffs, as was done in ''Ishin!'' or ''Kenzan!'', giving them time to refine the gameplay changes for mainline entries. As a result not all of the changes have been well received.

* UnnecessaryMakeover: A Japanese-exclusive demo for the game that released alongside the Japanese launch of ''Kiwami'' had Kiryu sporting a completely new design. In it, he wore a bulky blue jacket, grey pants and boots, and his appearance was largely criticized by fans. While some didn't mind Kiryu's new look, it took WordOfGod to confirm it would not appear in the final game.

* EpilepticTrees: Before the game's release, the idea that Haruka suddenly had a child shocked many fans and left some in denial, with some believing it was a case of LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt. Some theories floated around, including the idea that Haruto wasn't actually Haruka's son, and she took him under her wing or adopted him in order to protect him from whatever danger he was in. Despite fans' suspicions, Haruto is indeed Haruka's legitimate child.

* BrokenBase: The choice to only have Kiryu playable again, when the last mainline game to do so was ''Yakuza 3''. Since it's billed as the last chapter in Kiryu's story some people think it makes perfect sense that the story would be primarily focused on him. Others believe that it's for this same reason that they should bring previous characters back for one last hurrah before sending him off.

** The heavy degree of prominence of {{Celebrity Cameo}}s. Starting with ''Yakuza 4'' the series has featured many of them in a variety of roles, but ''6'' is the game that features them the most prominently. Fans of the celebrities involved, such as Creator/TakeshiKitano, love them, and Sega knowingly [[JustHereForGodzilla advertised them heavily]] on promotional material. But for others, especially long-standing fans of the series, this batch of celebrity-based characters is seen as a SpotlightStealingSquad taking away time that could've been spent on old characters such as Majima and Akiyama (overlapping with the above bullet point) and are less interesting than the casts of previous games.

* ContestedSequel: Being the first game released on the ''Dragon'' Engine means that while it's the most immersive and impressive looking entry in the ''Yakuza'' series yet, and finally leapfrogs the visual quality of the games to contemporary levels, it's offset by a host of technical issues as well as a lot less content relative to previous games. Most of these issues would've probably been a lot more forgivable for a spinoff game, but the fact that it's meant to be the GrandFinale for Kiryu's story means it's held to higher standards. The story is considered one of the weaker ones in the series, and a lot of fans believe that the game ends on a sour note because of the finale where Kiryu [[spoiler:fakes his death and leaves Haruka's life so that she can be happy]].
