** Lincoln's deconstruction of Luan's pranks in "Fool's Paradise" is very unnerving, especially since he says outright that it was lucky that Lana's [[PlotAllergy allergy to rhubarb]] is a mild one (and even then he was freaked out by the swelling that resulted, even calling it the worst he had ever seen on her) and that the prank Rita fell for would have killed Lily. And even without him pointing out all the ways it could have gone wrong and Luan's imagination running away with her, the fact that she intended to ''[[TarAndFeathers tar and feather]] him is ''very'' disturbing.

** In Chapter 16, Lincoln's calling out of Luan for her April Fool's Day antics is primarily for a place of love for the rest of the family and when he realizes said calling out not only made her cry but has driven her to self-hatred, he's immediately trying to make her feel better.

** Lucy gets sick of Lynn hating herself and [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre tells her that yes; she started the whole "Lincoln is bad luck" mess but the rest of the family has to shoulder blame for letting themselves believe it]]. The Goth is clearly glad to see Lynn perk up, even if she hides it, and is openly upset when Chapter 15's NightmareSequence sends Lynn spiraling into self-loathing and open terror and heartbreak.

** A subverted example with the Louds. While their treatment of Lincoln in the first three chapters is inexcusable and horrible, they get a major wake up call in the fifth chapter. It's clear from that point that they are remorseful and seek to better themselves. Even Lynn's wishing Lincoln was never born during their outburst, she immediately regrets it when she calms down and beats herself up about it, and how the blame for all this mess can be traced back to her.

** Lynn gets a particular sharp dose of this trope when she finally admits in Chapter 9 that the whole mess is her fault because she decided to call Lincoln a jinx instead of accepting the loss in stride and breaks down on Pop-pop's shoulder. Then chapter 13 features her being outright terrified of her little brother (something a few readers have smugly called LaserGuidedKarma considering how rough she is with him even at the best of times in canon), who treats her with a calm indifference to her clear heartbreak, and TheReveal that she's stopped taking care of herself out of guilt, to the clear worry of her parents and several of her sisters.

Then Chapter 15 compounds this with a NightmareSequence where Lincoln [[ThisIsUnforgivable informs her that he's never forgiving her for what she did]] before walking out of the family's lives forever; when Lynn wakes up, she's too freaked out to even attempt to mask how upset she is, to Lucy's clear worry, and is clearly [[ItsAllMyFault in the midst of blaming herself for absolutely everything]].

Added DiffLines:

** Lynn's nightmare in Chapter 15 where Lincoln dumps all his anger and blame on her shoulders and then leaves forever is very unnerving, especially since she's clearly regressed badly from the small progress she made after [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre Lucy's pep talk]]. A 13-year-old is blaming herself for all of her family's actions and the story doesn't seem to be leaning towards [[ThereAreNoTherapists her getting the help she needs]].

Added DiffLines:

** Chapter 15's NightmareSequence has completely broken Lynn in a way nothing else has and the only person who can snap her out of her self-loathing is Lincoln who wants nothing to do with her.

* CharacterDevelopment: Several characters in the story go through their own form of growth and development as the story progresses.
** Lincoln: At the beginning of the story, Lincoln started out as an ExtremeDoormat for his family as he was constantly forced by them to wear the squirrel suit for its supposed good luck, no matter how much he didn't want to, and any attempt he made to dissuade them out their superstitious beliefs always failed. But the story proves that there is only so much abuse Lincoln is willing to take and lashes out at his family for their selfishness, disrespect towards him and utter disregard for his feelings. Sure it took him having to reach his RageBreakingPoint after finding out his parents lied to him about what really happened to his furniture, but it still proved to be the key motivator Lincoln needed to stand his ground and make it clear to his family he's not going to put up with them treating him like an object instead of a person any longer. And if they fail to comply with his demands, then he won't hesitate [[spoiler: a second time]] to rat them out to the police for the crime they committed. Lincoln's newfound assertiveness proves to be effective as evident when Lola AND Lynn (the two sisters who usually use threats of physical violents to have their way with Lincoln) become more cautious around him to avoid angering him further, and not even Rita and Lynn Sr dare to ignore his demands of not making him come back home to avoid bringing the attention of police.

Added DiffLines:

** A lower key one than the above but Lynn's lack of care for herself (namely skipping out on a lot of sleep and not eating well) in the most recent chapter is a pretty unnerving scenario since it's quite possibly interfering with her physical recovery and if that's the case, could cripple her permanently.

Added DiffLines:

** Lynn's fear of Lincoln in chapter 13 and how badly she kicks herself for being too cowardly to attempt an apology is pretty painful, especially since she might be unconsciously [[SelfHarm starving herself and avoiding getting enough sleep]] [[TheAtoner to punish herself]]. To say nothing of the mixed emotions Lincoln would probably feel if he found out that she was doing something that could cause her permanent harm since the story has demonstrated that while Lincoln is furious over his family's behavior and wants nothing to do with them, he doesn't want them to get hurt.

** Between treating their son like a mere good luck charm, continuously hurting him even after things cleared up, and showing more concern towards the suit rather than Lincoln when he was ''attack by a damn alligator'', it's pretty clear The Louds crossed this. ** In chapter 4, Lynn crosses it when she claims that she never loved Lincoln, wanted a sister instead of a brother, and wishes he was never born. A little muddled by the fact that she said it without thinking during a moment of anger (and after getting into a vicious fight with Lincoln). The narration does note that she feels guilt once her anger diminishes. She has a MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment in chapter 5. Though, whether or not her remorse is too little, too late for Lincoln is yet to decide.
