** Despite the RunningGag of characters in the show--including Homer himself--predicting an early death for Homer due to his unhealthy lifestyle, this episode shows him living happily into old age after kicking alcohol. The SequelEpisode "Days of Future Future" reframes this by showing that, technically, he ''didn't'': the original Homer died from a heart attack when [[ComicBookTime everybody was the same age as in the show proper]], and the Homer of the future is the latest in a long line of clone replacements that preserve all of his memories, similar to the CloneArmy of Ralph Wiggums we see in this episode.

* UnfortunateImplications: The FamilyUnfriendlyAesop is this as the only one who truly come out on top is Homer and Marge. As shown below Homer was just as abusive to Bart as Abe was to him, even more so actually yet doesn’t suffer the same LaserGuidedKarma as his father. Bart and Lisa aren’t abusive yet still have same problems with their kids. Instead of children always liking their grand parents better than their parents, it comes across as more of an excuse to justify Homer and Marge’s abuse of their kids.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: A major plot point of the future storyline is Bart’s relationship with Jenda, but instead of focusing on how that is affecting his relationship with his sons the Aesop of the episode is instead about how people naturally treat their grandchildren better then their actual children.
** Even with that Aesop there is a really good point to be made about the generation jump of liking your grandfather but not your dad. This is something the Simpsons have actually established before. Bart and Abe have repeatedly been shown to have a very good relationship. However they didn’t really go into it in this episode, or even TheChainOfHarm. Bart is a bit [[ParentalNeglect neglectful]] because he’s going through a bad divorce and Lisa’s problems with Zia is entirely the result of TechnologyMarchesOn.
** Abe and Homer (and Bart and Homer for that matter) do have quite an abusive relationship. Abe’s mistreatment of Homer has made him feel cold towards his father, Homer in turn takes out that anger on Bart. If Homer had unfrozen Abe and let him abuse him it might have been nice to see Bart’s son’s realize that on their own and take steps for that not to happen with them and their father. Instead of Homer just spelling it out to them.
