** El Diablo calling the Squad a 'family' and Harley referring to them as her 'friends' can come off as this, as there's very little screentime showcasing the Squad actually spending time interacting in any way. Beyond slight banter, nothing really justifies the UndyingLoyalty they express at the end of the film.

* TheScrappy: Griggs acts obnoxiously, has no redeeming or interesting qualities, and a lot of his behavior (towards Harley especially) is filled with {{Narm}}.
** Fans and critics likewise dislike Enchantress for the fact that she is very poorly written and is responsible for the movie's weak plot.

* {{Narm}}: [[spoiler: Enchantress']] bizarre dance ritual in the finale.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Killer Croc's prosthetic make-up looks fantastic even in set photos.

The promotional material has so heavily implied that he will be a SacrificialLamb that the fandom has gone the other way, treating him as everything from the strongest member of the Squad to the secret seventh member of the Film/JusticeLeague. Ironically, this isn't even the first time Slipknot has gotten this treatment. In the actual Suicide Squad comics, all Slipknot did was fail to strangle some alien robots and end up on the wrong end of Captain Boomerang's ChronicBackstabbingDisorder. Years later, though, some fans noted he'd first appeared tackling the incredibly powerful ComicBook/{{Firestorm}} with nothing but a rope, and declared him to be awesome.

* HeReallyCanAct: One of the few saving graces in the critic's eyes was how the entire cast brought their A-Game. In particular:
** Will Smith's casting was met with skepticism, as many thought he would be unable to pull off a villainous, cynical anti-hero like Floyd Lawton. In the end, however, his performance was the most consistently praised element of the film.
** Margot Robbie was also seen as a highlight of the film, with Bruce Timm feeling she nailed Harley's character.
** Jai Courtney, after a string of roles that were criticised, won a lot of people over as Captain Boomerang.

* HilariousInHindsight: Jai Courtney and the actor playing the ''Series/{{Arrow}}'' version of Captain Boomerang, Nick Tarabay, are both alumnae of the show ''Series/{{Spartacus}}''. Also, the announcement of Courtney's casting happened close to Tarabay's first major appearance on ''Arrow''.

* WinBackTheCrowd: After concerns over ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' being too dark and serious, many fans are looking forward to the movie's lighter, funnier tone. {{Subverted}} once the reviews started coming in, which scored it very similarly to ''Batman v. Superman'' and only cited it as a mild improvement due to the cast and humor. It ultimately settled a percentage point ''below'' the last movie.

** A pretty big one with the Franchise/{{Arrowverse}}, mainly because this movie more than any other takes so many villains and characters off the table for the [=CW=] shows, [[spoiler: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Katana, and Amanda Waller]] have all been either killed off or written out thanks to this movie and fans have not been happy. It also made sure that there was little chance of there ever being any new Suicide Squad episodes.

* SpiritualAdaptation: The movie is actually a more effective substitute of the comic book ComicBook/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen than [[Film/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen its own film adaptation]]. It has a bunch of surly antiheroes who cross the lines between heroes and monsters (much like the original comic), led by [[spoiler:a girl (Harley Quinn) haunted by her affection for a monster (Quinn-Joker=Mina-Dracula), a straight hero who is secretly mourning and grieving for his loved one (Quatermain=Rick Flagg), a villain who has a strained relationship with his daughter (Captain Nemo=Deadshot), and monsters with soft centers and RedemptionQuest (Mr. Hyde=El Diablo and Killer Croc). It even has a LovableRogue potential traitor in Captain Boomerang (Invisible Man). All of them are also led by a shady intelligence officer (M and Campion Bond/Amanda Waller)]].

** [[spoiler: The Joker. After all that build-up in the promotion, he doesn't have very much screen time. Some reviewers have suggested that his entire presence in the movie is basically just a BackDoorPilot for the upcoming Batman movie starring Ben Affleck.]]
** [[spoiler: Fans who were looking forward to Katana were disappointed with her relatively small role. Some sites even compared her treatment to that of Comicbook/{{Jubilee}} from ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', another Asian superhero who fans were excited for but turned out to be fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Although she does get more of a backstory, and is at least involved in the central conflict to some extent.]]

** Several reviews have wondered if the movie might have had better reception had ''Film/{{Deadpool}}'', which similarly deals with a violent AntiHero, not been released the same year.

** The second trailer set to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." It managed to turn naysayers into fans and had a great effect on the more casual audience at large.

* WhatAnIdiot: The helicopter crew for [[spoiler:Waller's extraction from Midway City]] fire off bright chaff despite not facing a conventional foe, and all it does is draw attention, resulting in its crash.
