* TearJerker: [[spoiler:Peppy's [[DisneyDeath "death"]] after level 9. Sure, [[UnexplainedRecovery he got better]], but the whole cutscene is one of the most heartwrenching ([[DyingMomentOfAwesome and awesome]]) moments in the series.]]

** When the Star Fox crew arrives on Sauria, Fox gets a {{Glomp}} from Tricky, who due to having grown over the years is now much larger than Fox and ends up inadvertently crushing him. After the end of the mission, Fox and Krystal are riding on Tricky's back, and while Tricky is sad that he can't come with them like old times, he's at least excited at the possibility that Fox and Krystal can come back to Sauria [[ShipperOnDeck for their honeymoon]], which causes Fox a great deal of embarrassment.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: When the fight with Oikonny begins at the end of the first mission, he transforms his flagship into a giant version of his head and hands in a clear homage to Andross both in- and out-of-universe (which Falco calls out as "an Andross wannabe"), and Oikonny "starts" the fight by using this HumongousMecha to do the "bring it on" gesture. When the fight is over, he starts talking about how he's "the one true heir to the great Emperor Andross" and immediately gets shot down.

Many fans loathe the game because they ignore the good qualities and simply fixate on the fact that [[UnexpectedGameplayChange you're on the ground too much]], rather than flying around as in a typical Star Fox game.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Due to [[TroubledProduction the drama during the development]] of ''VideoGame/StarFoxAdventures'' most of the game content featuring Krystal [[DummiedOut got lost in the shuffle]] which led to the plot [[FauxActionGirl sidelining her for most of the game as a prisoner]], annoyed fans hoping for a genuine ActionGirl. ''Assault'' not only makes Krystal fully playable in multiplayer, but in the campaign she wipes out entire enemy squadrons both in the cockpit and on foot by herself, proving her worth to the Star Fox team.

* ClicheStorm: It's a bog standard "alien invasion" plot like you can see in any Sci-Fi, though the strong voice acting, excellent orchestral soundtrack and high-stakes missions elevate it into being [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools genuinely enjoyable]]. It also helps that it's the first real ''Star Fox'' game to break away from the Andross threat that wasn't ''Adventures'' [[spoiler: where he's shoehorned in [[HijackedByGanon at the last second anyways.]]]]

* PlayTheGameSkipTheStory: The biggest fans of this game are of the belief its single player exists to unlock new features in multiplayer, which in a ''Star Fox'' first is much deeper than the "story mode". Even those that like single player are mostly interested in racking up high scores, however you might get special dialog in some missions depending on just how you achieve those scores.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The new [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti-ANm0kaV0 Star Wolf theme]] gets just as much love (if not more love) than the original version.

* CompleteMonster: [[GodSaveUsFromTheQueen The Aparoid Queen]] is the [[HiveQueen source of the Aparoids' will]]. Allegedly [[TheSoulless born without a soul]], the Aparoid Queen [[EvilutionaryBiologist aimed to bypass evolution]]. To that end, she [[MonsterProgenitor spawned]] countless [[HordeOfAlienLocusts Aparoids]] and unleashed them all throughout the Lylat System to infect both inorganic and organic matter through Aparoidedation. Her race threatens inhabitants of countless planets; most notably, [[spoiler:Sauria and Corneria]] suffer the most damage and casualties. Her AssimilationPlot sees other people infected by Aparoids [[AndIMustScream retain some consciousness coupled with the inability to do anything about it]]; the tragic effects seen most vividly in the fights against [[spoiler:General Pepper and Pigma Dengar. Before the attack on her homeworld, she has an armada of Aparoids try and destroy the Orbital Gate, including the deployment of numerous powerful missiles, in hopes of ending all opposition, including the scientists studying Core Memories. When Star Fox reaches the heart of the Aparoid Homeworld, the Queen uses the information she's absorbed from her spawn's exploits to imitate the voices of the fallen, including Fox's deceased father James [=McCloud=], to break their spirits.]] Under the belief all existed for them and her race was "truth", the Aparoid Queen threatened existence itself in her quest to turn everything into Aparoid under her control, and rivaled Emperor Andross himself in sheer darkness.

Arguably made even sadder when [[spoiler: Peppy is revealed to have survived in the end.]]
