* NightmareFuel: Like any setting involving an invasive virus that can assimilate other lifeforms, it's there. Some of the {{Apocalyptic Log}}s provide some, but the creepiest moment comes when Jenosa confronts [[spoiler:[[HiveMind The Source]], which has since absorbed Professor Derad, the only survivor on base whom Jenosa had any communication with. ** Think about a number of other games involving a similar premise, where your character in said game is {{The Immune}} and unaffected by enemy attacks that would otherwise transmit the disease/virus/contaminant to anyone else. Here....NOPE. The {{Timed Mission}} nature of the whole game is meant to invoke a sense of nervous fear in the player that your time is coming, ''you are not immune'', if you don't find a way off Inos and soon, ''you too will fall and become one of the monsters you're fighting''. While the enemies WILL kill you if you're not careful, sometimes it feels less like they're trying to kill and more like they're trying to slow you down...and then you realize....that's '''exactly''' what they're trying to do, slow you down so the infection kills you first and they can assimilate you into their number....the heartbeat that starts up and gets progressively faster the more Jenosa's infection rises will remind you that it's coming and you better find a decontamination room and ''fast''...

* GoddamnedBats: Most weaker enemies until you acquire the beam they are weak to, which is thankfully early on. However, the tentacles that emerge from the red goo to shoot poison gas at you continue to be annoying throughout the game. The little floating balls of fire are also annoying, as they are often positioned to screw up your jumps.

** And the evil jellybean monsters always come in enormous groups, don't self-destruct like the other basic enemies and instead keep biting you relentlessly, often hurt you even when they're dying, they're chomping is the MostAnnoyingSound of the game (and you'll hear it VERY often) and they're [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking ugly]]. And ANY enemy in the game can become this if you're in a tunnel, due to your movement being restricted even more.

* ThatOneLevel: Some of the upgrade-granting puzzles that require extensive use of the Adrenaline ability, as well as one switch in the Mines which requires that you freeze the more powerful and faster-thawing lizard-like creatures.
** The Forest area too, mostly because it's by far the longest level in the game with the toughest enemies you'll come across.
