Upon discovering a mystical pool that allowed her to see various possible futures, Raven realized that desperate measures would have to be taken to ensure the one future where humanity survived. To this end Raven made the painful decision to abandon her family so that they could achieve their full potential. When Salem is defeated, Raven absorbs her power and decides to stay in the netherworld, both to ensure the balance and to serve penance for her crimes.

** [[spoiler: Pyrrha's [[HeroicSacrifice second death in the final chapter.]] The author explained that the intention was to undo Pyrrha's [[SacrificialLion meaningless]] death in canon and make her life ''and death'' worth something and honor her; but many felt that bringing her back to life, only to torture her for most of the story, kill her again, and then have Jaune abruptly 'move on' and start dating Ruby without any buildup one chapter later in the Epilogue lends itself against this.]]

It's also worth noting that the story was inspired particularly because the author couldn't accept Pyrrha's canon status as a SacrificialLion thus causing people to accuse him of hypocrisy.]]

Throughout the entirety of the story Ruby's crush on Jaune is mentioned only a handful of times and never properly explored nor is it a part of the plot until the epilogue. Furthermore, Jaune never mentions having any feelings for Ruby until the epilogue. It is painfully obvious that if Pyrrha had never died Jaune would have never been interested in her.]]
