* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: In the middle of the story, after Shane has been handcuffed to a barn and [[spoiler:Barlow is lying in a chair dead]] a panther comes into the barn, takes [[spoiler:Barlow's dead body]] and drags it outside, it is never seen or mentioned again for the rest of the film. Maybe averted, because it was pretty heavily foreshadowed. Aussie audiences familiar with the urban legend ''loved'' it.
** Well, there is one more scene of it in the middle of the end credits, but the film's already over and it doesn't do anything.

* FauxSymbolism: The Panther is supposed to be a reference to an actual panther rumored to be roaming the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, even though the panther is not a native Australian animal. The exact opposite is true of Kwanten's character in ''Film/MysteryRoad'', the next Australian police procedural film he appeared in.

** There are a few instances when it looks like Jimmy drags out tormenting Old Bill's men rather than killing them quickly, such as when he [[spoiler: shoots Slim in the knees and later uses him as a live decoy for Old Bill's men to shoot]], or when he [[spoiler: takes the time to play a song on the jukebox while Ted is cowering from him.]] Is he just relishing in their fear and wants to hear them beg for their lives?
