Author's saving throw is a trivia trope that needs Word of God to coalify.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** VideoGame/Rage2011 came out during a massive DorkAge for Creator/IdSoftware and was criticized for being very dull and uninspired (which was especially disappointing coming from the people that created ). Rage 2, in stark contrast, is brash, colorful, and has combat that has been compared positively to VideoGame/Doom2016. Having Creator/AvalancheStudios handle much of the open-world and vehicle mechanics this time (which were seen as some of the weaker aspects of Rage) didn't hurt matters at all.
** Both the expansions Rise of the Ghosts and [=TerrorMania=] have shades of this regarding complaints that the main game involves a lot of driving with little focus on combat. Both take place in much smaller, denser areas, with the latter disabling vehicles altogether, and enemy encounters spawn waves of opponents to take down, instead of dealing with a group and moving on.

This is just whinny natter.

** On top of that, despite putting all its marketing focus on the game's combat, most of the player's time will be spent travelling across the enormous map or painstakingly combing through each area trying to find all the hidden chests (especially if you're trying to 100% the game). The actual gunfights take up a very small portion of the run-time, in comparison.

The example misused Tainted by the Preview to just bash the game rather than detailing some sort of pre-release controversy or audience backlash.

* TaintedByThePreview:
** Much of the marketing material paints Rage 2 as a crazy, over-the-top action game with tongue firmly in-cheek, much like its competitor, . Although the game itself is more over-the-top and wacky than the po-faced original, it isn't anywear near the extent the trailers implied and still mostly plays itself straight-faced with a fairly dry cast of characters, making for a largely forgettable experience instead of an EvenBetterSequel.

* WinBackTheCrowd: Rage 2 was originally set to release only on 's PC launcher instead of Steam (at the time, Bethesda was planning on making all their PC games exclusive to the platform), to much dismay. However, after VideoGame/Fallout76 flopped, both games (along with VideoGame/DoomEternal and VideoGame/WolfensteinYoungblood) were announced to have Steam releases. There was much rejoicing, especially since this came at a time when many developers and publishers were signing exclusivity deals with Creator/EpicGames controversial store.

So the 'good bug' was that the game was missing some copy protection? Not even a bug, and was written poorly as well.

* GoodBadBugs: At release, the Bethesda Launcher version lacks Denuvo Anti-tamper which adds additional layer of anti-crack protection while the Steam version is protected. Shortly after this, the Steam version is updated to remove Denuvo instead.

A lot of things are possible in video games, that is not what thise trope is about though. Everyone needs actively to play the game that way for it to be this trope.
