* LoveItOrHateIt: Fan reaction is pretty severe: the camps are neatly divided into absolute hatred of the game and almost dogmatic support of it. The hate camp thinks it's an overpriced grindfest and a massive disappointment, while the love camp believes that it's a wondrous, emotional experience that should be celebrated as a masterpiece. The middle ground is quite small, with many in that camp saying it's SoOkayItsAverage.

Doesn't count. The game use Procedural Generation to generate things from parts, not handcrafted maps that are stored on drive like other games. All Proc Gen-based games have smaller size because of that, nothing that special for this game.

* GeniusProgramming: One definite positive about the game is how space-efficient it is. The universe of No Man's Sky is about as big as several other Open World games combined at least, yet it only takes up 10gb (as opposed to most modern sandbox games taking up 30-55gb by themselves).

** The lack of multiplayer. Some are ok with its exclusion, others are disappointed, and some are only mad about it because of the way the developers danced around the issue rather than give a direct answer, even after the lack of proper multiplayer was discovered.

*** This proved not to be the case of the PC version, which was a PortingDisaster on the level of Unity and Arkham Knight, some people can not even get the game to run at all.

** The fact that the PC version came out in such an abysmal state that many people experienced severe hitching and frame-rate issues(with some people not even being able to run the game due to constant crashing) has pissed a lot of PC gamers off.

* SoOkayItsAverage: Critical reviews peg it as this. The census is that while the technical achievement of the game (being able to look up into the sky at an unknown planet, get in your spaceship and literally drive there) is one of the most impressive things to come out of next gen gaming and the atmosphere of the game is excellent, it's ultimately bogged down by being just another survival game like {{VideoGame/Minecraft}}, {{VideoGame/Terraria}} and {{VideoGame/Starbound}} and that these elements actually interfere with the things that could have been fun about the game.

* HypeBacklash: Many PC gamers are turned off by the fact that the game will be a UsefulNotes/PlayStation4 timed exclusive and some are turned off by the sheer amount of press the game has received, though this isn't without reason: Like with ''VideoGame/StarCitizen'' the game is reaching [[Creator/PeterMolyneux Molyneux]] levels of promises when the trailers have mostly shown exploration or one specific aspect of gameplay (say, trading or a PortalNetwork).
