** No Man's Sky NEXT seems to have finally done it for them. In addition to the game being released for the UsefulNotes/XboxOne, the update added proper multiplayer with drop-in and drop-out with other players, revamped dogfights, the ability to visit other players' bases, parties of up to 4 people, and the ability to customize your freighter to make it a mobile base. Since the July 24, 2018, release of the NEXT update, 79% of Steam user reviews have been positive (compared to only 39% positive reviews before the NEXT update) while the all-time reviews have risen to 47% recommended from an all-time low of 12% recommended. Consecutive player counts on Steam alone reached a peak of nearly 98,000 people on July 29, 2018, a massive surge from an average of under 1,000 people before the ''NEXT'' update and the most since the game's all-time high of 212,613 on its release day on August 12, 2016.

Misplaced, moving to the correct tab

* LastLousyPoint: You can get a nanite reward for finding and scanning all the species on a planet, but prepare for frustration if one or more of those are listed as 'Rare/Underground,' and God help you if 'Rare/Underwater' appears on the list.

** FriendlyFandoms: On the other hand, fans of this game and fans of ''VideoGame/Cyberpunk2077'' often get along, despite the two games being totally different. This comes down to them being two games that had rough launches, only to bounce back with DLC and patches done in the years since their release.

** The update that introduces customizable player character and made third person perspective the default also made moving in first person feel floaty despite the game is initially designed for first person in mind.

** Frequent updating, even more often than ''Minecraft'' does and Hello Games seemingly never stopping, cause many mods, which designed to alleviate the scrappy mechanics above, to not work, forcing the mod makers (or users themselves) to update the mods to keep up. Also it doesn't help that unlike ''Minecraft'', players can't choose to stick to a particular version, especially those with older computers when updates bump up the minimum system requirements.

Rescued From The Scrappy Heap is for specific characters or concepts from a work having their reputation within the fandom salvaged, not the entire work's reputation being salvaged.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Two years after a disastrous launch, the "NEXT" update gave the game a much-needed shot in the arm. The addition of multiplayer and getting a port to the Xbox One, in addition to other quality of life improvements, helped to win back many disenfranchised players and even [[https://www.techspot.com/news/75716-no-man-sky-update-pushes-game-top-steam.html shot the game to the top of Steam's sales charts]].

After the launch this trope became inverted, with people harassing and insulting the few fans who enjoyed the game.

Trivia example that requires word of god or saint paul to count. Even then, you can't play with either trivia or YMMV tropes

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Every single patch could be seen as an attempt at this due to the controversy surrounding many of the promised features that were missing during the game's initial release, especially since all of them are free.
** The day one patch notes, which many suspect were released just to combat the leaks and prove that the leaked copies were, in fact, incomplete builds. Judging from the reviews from critics, however, [[SubvertedTrope it didn't seem to help much]], being just a posturing TakeThat to the pirated versions.
** Patch 1.04, released August 18th, fixed some of the bugs each version suffered.
** The entirety of the Foundations Update, which added numerous features that were previously promised, including base building and board-able freighters, in addition to fixing a number of bugs.
** The July 24, 2018 ''NEXT'' update brings in the promised multiplayer. Thanks to this update, which follows two previous years of free content updates, many players came back. See WinBackTheCrowd for more information.
** The ''FRONTIERS'' update, released on September 1, 2021, finally adds populated areas to the game with the inclusion of planetside settlements.
** The ''WAYPOINT'' update that coincided with the launch of the Switch port was not very well-received, with one of the big changes being the removal of the General Inventory that could hold both items and installed tech. Despite increasing the amount of slots Tech / Cargo inventories could have, it still removed a ''lot'' of Inventory space, and it meant that players could no longer double-up on technology loadouts like Jetpack or Hyperdrive enhancements by installing three in Tech and three in General. The following few patches would address these in various ways, including awarding additional free storage slots for those upgrading to Waypoint, increasing stat boosts for upgrades and starship classes, and introducing supercharged tech slots that boost the effects of technology installed into them.
