** The AdultFear idea of a pony getting a cutie mark representing an inappropriate or socially unacceptable talent is subverted with Petunia (whose parents assumed her skull and bones mark meant she'll be a pirate), but was explored in the ''WebVideo/MyLittlePonyCamaraderieIsSupernatural'' episode "Call of the Creepy", in which Apple Bloom got an obscene (and censored) cutie mark due to a [[WhatDidIDoLastNight night in Celestiajuana that she can't even remember]] and desperately wants to change it.
** The idea is also explored in [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendsForeverIssue28 ''Friends Forever'' #28]], where we're introduced to a filly named Thestra that has a skull and bone cutie mark that turns out to represent her unique magic to make skin and muscle temporarily disappear which has many useful abilities.

* FridgeBrilliance: Officially, the episode was delayed half a season in order to ensure there would be a [=CMC=] episode in the later part of the season. However, given that in "On Your Marks" (produced five episodes before this one), the [=CMC=] were struggling to find ponies to help, whereas here, they're so widely renowned for helping with cutie mark problems that ponies (and griffons) actually seek them out, it definitely made sense to separate the two episodes a bit more.

Regardless of whether it's Played For Laughs, we already have a page for Heartwarming Moments. It's the length of a dictionary.

* {{Heartwarming Moments}}: {{Played for laughs}} but while Petunia's parents are clearly worried for their daughter's potential purpose in life, they still take the effort to make her a rather impressive pirate attire in support of her if that is really what she wants to do who with her life.
