* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: How [[https://derpicdn.net/img/view/2016/8/6/1218514.png Derpy's cart beat Rarity's]] for Most Creative could be explained by [[DramaQueen Rarity]] being an UnreliableNarrator.

Actually, this seems to exemplify why it was hard for them to stand up to someone older. Not everything is easy even when you try.

* UnintentionallySympathetic:
** While A.J., Dash and Rarity are certainly to blame for not listening to their sisters and taking over the competition, it's arguable if they can really be held responsible for ruining the race for everyone else. The reason they ''all'' crashed was because someone had the bright idea of building a track having multiple roads all intersect at one point. Really, a crash like that could have occurred at any time, regardless of the main characters' actions. Furthermore, there was no other roadway visible.
** When the CMC are asked why they never told their sisters what they really wanted, their response is inexplicably about how hard it is to stand up to someone older, rather than how they ''did'' clearly make their wishes known multiple times only to get steamrolled until they gave up on being heard.

Now Flame Bait and definition only

* IdiotPlot:
** To avoid every problem, Applebloom could've asked Rainbow Dash to help build her kart (fastest design), Scootaloo could've asked Rarity to build her kart (most creative design), and Sweetie Belle could've asked Applejack to build her kart (most traditional design).
*** A major problem was that Applejack, Rainbow, and Rarity were taking over the projects and wouldn't listen to the Crusaders. So, even if Scootaloo, Applebloom, and Sweetie did get the Karts they wanted, all the credit and ideas would have still been from the older siblings. Can you see Scootaloo being happy with the swanmobile Rarity built? Not to mention, they still most likely would have been forced into the passenger seat anyway.
*** As stated above, the Crusaders ''might'' have found more attentive ears had they thought to choose the most appropriate partners rather than their own big sisters, but how would the writers have arrived at the desired aesop without the older mares falling victim to ItsAllAboutMe?
*** Not to mention they shouldn't have even been ''allowed'' to drive the carts as adults, on top of the fact that Rarity's design allowed for blatant cheating. It seems strange that for a race hyped up as so important, Cheerilee and the other ponies in charge didn't care about the rules.

Don't try to live vicariously through your kids.kids.
** A more cynical one is that [[PeripheryDemographic adults enjoying]] something for kids is likely to ruin it for the kids.

** Whoever designed the course qualifies, with the figure eight track [[https://derpicdn.net/img/view/2016/8/6/1218758__safe_rainbow+dash_rarity_applejack_screencap_derpy+hooves_scootaloo_sweetie+belle_apple+bloom_edit.png overlapping two major roads]]!
** Cheerilee, the Crusaders, and their three sister figures each made a significant misfire that caused the wheels to fall off the wagon for the entire derby. Cheerilee's {{technobabble}} explanation of the lesson opened the floodgates to a lot of interpretation of the rules. Without missing a beat, the Crusaders headed straight to their respective relations to work on the cart, not thinking about the possibility that they'd do better to work with the pony specializing in their chosen category. And, of course, we've covered Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack ''many times over.'' Taken all together, and factoring in the design of the derby course, the end result was a disaster for ''all'' of the racers, even the completely innocent ones.

*** Basically, this episode wouldn't have happened if Rarity, Dash, and AJ [[ConflictBall acted like themselves]]. Not to mention they shouldn't have even been ''allowed'' to drive the carts as adults, on top of the fact that Rarity's design allowed for blatant cheating. It seems strange that for a race hyped up as so important, Cheerilee and the other ponies in charge didn't care about the rules.

** If you expected a gag-filled WackyRacing episode... well, you'd be wrong. (Except for the [[WesternAnimation/WackyRaces namesake montage]] and the wings on the swan cart.) Instead the entire episode revolves around Applejack, Rarity and Rainbow Dash acting in full ItsAllAboutMe mode and ignoring the Cutie Mark Crusaders' feelings until the three little fillies finally snap.
