** On top of that, Pitt was heavily rumored to have had an affair with Creator/MarionCotillard while filming ''Film/{{Allied}}'' together (he didn't), leaving to speculation that that was why Jolie divorced him, much like the suspicions that Pitt cheated on his then-wife Creator/JenniferAniston while filming this movie (something that both of them have repeatedly denied, with Jolie noting that it would be inappropriate for her to have an affair when her own father cheated on her mother).

** We're told that the couple works for 2 different agencies, but what if they work for two different branches of the same organization? J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, used to regularly complain about the dysfunctionality of Warner Brothers, the production company for Babylon 5, because the different branches (TV, Film, etc) actively worked against each other in a bizarre rivalry, and this had been intended by the person who designed the corporate structure. Everyone agrees the couple's respective organizations fuction very differently. Jane's is very high tech but it leaves a big footprint with 7 people working out of a prominent location and has other suspicious things like security system in the vents. John's organization only has 4 people in a very nondescript building. His group is very analog. Assuming they are part of one company, authorities would never suspect the 2 branches belong to one company since their MOs are so different. This compartmentalization would protect the parent company from ever losing all its hitters ... unless hitters from 2 different branches got married. I would laugh my ass off if it turned out the head of each branch was married to each other.

* BestKnownForTheFanservice: Besides the infamous RomanceOnTheSet, the ''other'' thing this movie is best known for is the scene when Angelina Jolie dresses as a dominatrix.

* IdiotPlot: It was already pointed out by Website/{{Cracked}} that since the agency knew that the titular couple were HappilyMarried, they should have done something like bomb the house or poison their water, rather than hoping that one is disloyal and competent enough to kill the other.
* Mis-blamed: When the film came out, Angelina Jolie was widely labeled “the other woman” and accused of stealing Brad Pitt from Jennifer Anniston. Both Angie and Brad went out of their way to clarify that he was separated from Jen for a while when they started dating (he was very open about his desire to be a father, Jen did not want kids at the time, and Angelina was already a mother), and Angelina herself clarified that her father cheated on her mother, and that when she saw the pain it caused her mother, she swore she’d never seduce a married man.
* OvershadowedByControversy: While the film is serviceable, the real reason this movie has had any staying power in the cultural zeitgeist is because it's the film that ended one A-List celebrity marriage and gave us a whole other one, with the controversy being whether or not Creator/BradPitt cheated on Creator/JenniferAniston in doing so.

* HarsherInHindsight: The film is about the titular Smiths having an explosive break-up (in more ways than one). Their actors Creator/BradPitt and Creator/AngelinaJolie would famously have a RomanceOnTheSet and live together for a decade before marrying… only for Jolie to file for divorce from Pitt in 2016, apparently in less-than-amicable circumstances. * FridgeHorror: Whatever happened in Canada must have been ''bad''. And not just normal NoodleIncident bad, either. Eddie doesn't say "You remember Toronto" or "You remember Ontario", he says "You remember Canada". Whatever happened there happened ''everywhere''. Even Jane doesn't need any more reference for it than just "Canada".

** Seeing Creator/VinceVaughn appear in this film as the best friend of Creator/BradPitt's character can be hysterical considering that a year after this film was released, he would appear alongside Pitt's estranged wife Creator/JenniferAniston in a film (called ''Film/TheBreakUp'' of all things) and became a couple with her in real life for a while.

* SlobsVersusSnobs: John and Jane's respective organisations respectively, Johns group is fronted by a construction company, Jane's an IT firm, it also comes across personality-wise, John's fellow assassin Eddie is boorish, but kind and supportive towards John, showing an attitude of best friends as well as co-workers, on the other hand Jane's group comes across as cold, with only Jasmine being anything close to a friend, but the group casually has a LackOfEmpathy towards the revelation that Jane is unknowingly InLoveWithTheMark, tearing apart a teddy she won during one of thier early dates, watching their wedding video for "research", and one casually blowing the charges when they think John is trapped in an elevator with just a "What? you said Goodbye" towards Jane, this is evident also during the latter half of the movie in reactions, Eddie finds out that both [[spoiler: John and Jane are burned and have prices put on their heads, he instantly contacts John to let them know, he might not like Jane, but when the chips are down, he chose to give John and her a heads-up rather than try and take the bounty, but no word from Jane's company at all, barring Jasmine giving them a hand.]]
