* HeartwarmingInHindsight: The GoldenEnding becomes a lot more sweet after playing ''A New Life'', a later Angela He game that has SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitutes of the player character(who's named August in ANL) and May. In a way, Missed Messages retroactively gives [[spoiler: August and May happy ending they didn't get.]]

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** When people are depressed, sometimes all they need is a really caring and supportive friend who will listen to their problems and talk with them.
** Amy's route also offers a minor one. It's nice to have close friends, but sometimes you have none and that's okay. Just focus on you and make the most of your time.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: May's mother counts as this, seeing as we only hear about the woman from May's perspective and never meet the lady herself.
* GeniusBonus: People who have suffered from depression before could possibly [[spoiler:recognize some of the warning signs May is giving off before it's too late.]] It helps that the game is realistically written.
* HarsherInHindsight: May's general actions and words become this after [[spoiler:the player achieves a bad ending where she dies.]]
* NightmareFuel: Sorta. If the player gets one of the bad endings and [[spoiler:lets May die, the player may feel scared on an additional playthrough when trying to redo their actions.]] It's something real people feel when someone around them [[spoiler:attempts suicide and it shocks others into action to prevent it from happening again.]]

* PlayerPunch: If the player ends up accidentally [[spoiler:getting May killed, they might feel like this trope. Especially if you caught her red flags earlier on.]]
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: When people are depressed, sometimes all they need is a really caring and supportive friend who will listen to their problems and talk with them.
* TearJerker: The game shows trigger warnings for suicide and such before it even begins. [[spoiler:It hurts to see May kill herself, especially if the player knows it could've ended differently had they made different choices.]]
