* FunnyAneurysmMoment: The various gags revolving around Tohru's fire breath became a lot less cheery to watch after July 2019, when an arsonist set fire to Creator/KyotoAnimation (who produced and animated the anime adaptation), [[https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/18/asia/kyoto-animation-fire-intl-hnk/index.html killing over thirty-six people (including several who worked directly on the adaptation, such as director Yasuhiro Takemoto) and injuring many others]] in the deadliest mass murder in Japan since World War II.

* HilariousInHindsight: The meme comparing Kanna to ''Franchise/YuGiOh''[='=]s Blue Eyes White Dragon became more amusing in August 2019 when Creator/{{Konami}} released a [[https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Dragon_Maid Dragon Maid theme]], which was officially based on this series and even had the author's thumbs up.

** Milf Coded.[[labelnote:Explanation]]A Website/{{Tumblr}} user, attempting to take the series to task over its sexual content, called Lucoa this. The phrase was just so nonsensical that fans of the series started spamming it in relation to her.[[/labelnote]]

What's worse, [[spoiler:Ilulu]] later usurps her rival role, pushing her even farther into the background. Fortunately, this was balanced out by the reveal that she'd be getting her own SpinOff, and the manga has not only started to revive Elma's status as Tohru's Rival, but even sets up some possible romantic tension between them.

* {{Narm}}: For Latin American viewers, the use of Japanese honorifics in the Spanish dub is seem by many non-hardcore fans as this, especially when Mexican voice actors are well-known for normally avoiding this like a plague, outside offensive racial comedy. To make the situation even worse, some characters, like Lucoa, pronouce the honorifics as part of their names rather than being pronounced in a separated cluster (e.g Japanese "Tohru-kun" vs Latin American "Tohrukun"), and that without mention the fact other characters, like Kanna, use the ''wrong'' ones in the Spanish dub.[[note]]Kanna address Tohru as "Tohru-san" in the Spanish dub, while in Japanese she address her as with the "-sama" honorific instead.[[/note]]

Instead, he rarely interacts with the rest of the cast and, just like Elma, only gets screentime to be the butt of jokes (in this case, borderline-pedophilic ones). Fortunately, the manga does develop the magical world more (such as by showing what a magical exam is like as well as expanding on magic and wizarding).

* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: The music during the EyeCatch is rather similar to that of the chorus of "Our House" by Music/CrosbyStillsNashAndYoung.

When Kobayashi offers to let her stay at her place, Kanna begins to cry with peaceful music in the background.
** Seeing how much losing Tohru as friend hurt Elma in chapter 64 can really tug at the heartstrings. In the middle of their practice fight, she starts describing how Tohru would refuse to go to a festival with her, and how much that hurt, followed by accusing her of playing with people's hearts, then just breaking down in tears, saying that she just wants to be friends with Tohru like before and calling Tohru a "big meanie!" The fact that they do make up right after that, though, is just pure heartwarming.

While some Mexican fans of the show, just as American ones do, dislike the ComedicShotacon angle applied on Lucoa, others, on the other hand, really like her, partly because she is one of the few depictions of an Aztec god in foreign media, much less in {{Anime}}, not to mention Lucoa being depicted as a benevolent god,[[note]]And not just any god, but Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god who created humanity.[[/note]] compared with other depictions of either Aztec, Mayan and other Prehispanic gods, when they are depicted as AlwaysChaoticEvil and always requiring [[HumanSacrifice human sacrifices]]. Some Mexican fan-artists goes the extra mile to depict Lucoa dressed in the same way she could had dressed in Prehispanic times.

*** When Kobayashi first sees Tohru transform from dragon into dragon-girl during their first encounter (chapter 32 in the manga; episode 12 in the anime), she's amazed at how big Tohru's boobs are and wants to fondle them (we'd like to point out that Kobayashi is completely drunk), and Tohru [[SkinshipGrope is not against it]].
*** At one point, Kobayashi offers to wash Tohru's back and [[BathtubBonding it's not hard at all to convince her]]. Sure, it ends with Tohru turning into her dragon form and [[BaitAndSwitch Kobayashi having to use a hose to do this]], but the way they interact and Tohru's moans are anything but subtle.
** Riko gets flustered anytime Kanna touches her. Her reactions leave nothing to imagination.
** Fafnir's OddFriendship with Takiya has these undertones as well.
** There's a scene that happens after [[spoiler:Ilulu bends Kobayashi's gender against her will in the manga]].
