* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Tina's mother is supposed to be the voice of reason because she's the MsExposition. However, she's often hated by readers because she claims measles is harmless and even deliberately sets her daughter up on a playdate with a measles-ridden girl in hopes she'll catch it.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: This book is infamous for being pro-measles and anti-vaccine propaganda. The title's similarity to another book whose author became a pro-vaccine activisist after their daughter died of measles in 1962, doesn't help either.

Overshadowed By Controversy concerns minor scandals that become more well-known than the work itself. The propaganda is a major part of this work, so it belongs to Audience Alienating Premise instead.

* OvershadowedByControversy: This book is remembered for two reasons: its pro-measles and anti-vaccine propaganda, and its title's similarity to another book whose author became a pro-vaccine activist after their young daughter died from measles.

YMMV can't be played with.

* DesignatedHero: Downplayed for Tina and Sam's parents. They were probably just misinformed and were scared by Sam getting a weak immune system. However, it's hard to agree with them when they say things like "being afraid of measles is similar to being afraid of the dark".
* DesignatedVillain: Again, downplayed. Jared was never portrayed as evil, just misinformed. While "You're going to die if you don't get vaccinated!" was a bit of an extreme way of putting it, he does have a point about vaccinations being useful in saving lives. There's also the fact that Travis likely hasn't got the measles because of herd immunity from other people being vaccinated.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Although not being vaccinated doesn't necessarily kill you, being vaccinated helps save lives, so Jared had a point about vaccinations.

* FridgeHorror: If Melanie's doctor thinks an active kid with painless lesions is the worst case of measles he's seen in years, could that mean he's actually a fraud?
* InformedWrongness: Just because Jared was wrong about all unvaccinated people dying, doesn't mean that vaccines are useless.
