* DieForOurShip: The franchise fandom is small enough -- and the EstrogenBrigade portion of it especially so -- that people don't actively flame one another, for the most part. The Lupin/Jigen, Jigen/Goemon, Lupin/Goemon and Lupin/Zenigata shippers can often hold quite civil and mature conversations with one another. What they ''will not'' tolerate is Lupin/Fujiko. Or ''Anyone''/Fujiko, for that matter. Granted, she's devious as a cat and twice as manipulative, but you'd be hard pressed to find any named character on the show who ''isn't''. The Lupin fangirls hate her because she's "mean" to their cute little thief (who harasses every attractive woman he meets, including her); the Goemon fangirls don't care for her 'cause she seduced then dumped their man in the first season (the only really justified complaint on this list); the Jigen fangirls agree with their adorably scruffy gunman, that she's "trouble" (again, [[WeirdnessMagnet take a look at the]] [[CartwrightCurse others' track records]]); and the Zenigata fangirls (yep, they exist) just think she's a [[RealWomenDontWearDresses vapid bimbo]] ([[ActionGirl who is capable of building an explosive device powerful enough to destroy a solid oak door]] [[TheSmartGuy but small enough to fit inside a high heel.]] This isn't even taking into account the number of times she's saved her male compatriots' necks by charming her way into serving as TheMole when needed. Or the number of times she's [[IWasJustPassingThrough freaked out at the thought of Lupin being in peril]].

** Having been in the hands of so many directors and writers throughout its forty-plus year history, any real continuity between the films, TV episodes, and TV specials is pretty much nil, other than the most basic aspects of the characters and plot.

* EarWorm: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9CyKNT8d-w '77s opening]] with his multiple versions (choose your favorite!). Even Adult Swim caught that one; they made a commercial for the show that was just the words "Da-da-daaaaa da-da-da" repeated over to fit the song.

* EstrogenBrigade / PeripheryDemographic: Despite the series clearly being a seinen, the sometimes unintentional HoYay moments between the lead males in the anime entries manage to attract a growing female fanbase.

* FoeYay: Mostly between Fujiko & Lupin, as Fujiko is constantly back-stabbing & stealing from Lupin despite being an unofficial member of his gang. But also between Lupin & Zenigata, who are pretty friendly for eternal rivals.
** Part 1: Fujiko & Lupin get married after Lupin tells Fujiko he only has a day left, but Mamoh makes Fujiko disappear for a few hours afterwards. This somehow annuls their wedding & they have a second wedding, which Lupin runs out on, screaming that he wants to remain single. Despite this, every episode after this, Fujiko cuts her hair short & dresses more conservatively, only betraying Lupin once after this & becoming a regular in the gang for the rest of the season.
** Part 1: Zenigata starts off the series basically wanting Lupin dead more than arrested. At some point, he realizes chasing Lupin is his only goal in life. While he takes pleasure in successfully capturing him, he panics if someone doesn't break him out in a timely manner, & gets furious when anyone else tries to arrest him.
** Part 1: Zenigata falls to his knees in tears when he thinks Lupin has died in an explosion. He imagines Lupin going to Heaven instead of Hell. Realizing he's been tricked yet again, he swims out to Lupin & threatens to chase him all the way to America.
** Castle of Cagliostro: Lupin & Zenigata working as a team, sharing a cigarette, running around in their underwear.
** The Fuma Conspiracy: Zenigata, thinking Lupin dead, becomes a monk to pray for Lupin's spirit. Upon learning Lupin is alive, his purpose in life restored, he chases him relentlessly throughout the movie. The first time Zenigata sees Lupin's face, he looks relieved & happy. He very quickly & without question believes Lupin's accusation about the other cop he's with being a crook. Upon learning that Lupin is in a cave that's about to collapse, he tries to run in head-first to save him without a thought for his own safety.
** Part 2: Red jacket series starts off with Lupin repeatedly kissing Zenigata on the cheek after not seeing him for 5 years. Zenigata calls him a pervert. This is followed by a scene of a 90% naked Goemon getting attacked by a burly man in the massage parlor. Episode ends with Lupin depressed that Zenigata died in the Sirloin ship fire. When Zenigata shows up riding a turtle, Lupin is pleased that their game of chase will resume.
** Part 2: Lupin develops a new habit of sometimes blowing Zenigata a goodbye kiss before running off.
** Part 2: Lupin & Zenigata are getting shitfaced drunk together at a palace full of half naked women dancing around. They are pouring wine directly into each other's mouths & clinging to each other in occasionally promiscuous poses.
** Part 2: Lupin & Zenigata meet in Morocco, where they spend the episode chained together at the neck. They disguise themselves as a local couple, & two men try to buy Zenigata. The first guy finds out Zenigata is a man & accuses them of having "that kind of relationship." He tells the second that he can't part from Zenigata because he loves "her." Latter, Zenigata falls off a train & right into the hands of the legion. Instead of escaping, Lupin comes to heroicly save Zenigata. The episode ends with Zenigata chasing Lupin into the sunset.
** Part 2: After being tricked by Fujiko over false maps tattooed on women's backs, Lupin is digging on an island when Zenigata comes out of nowhere riding a very phallic torpedo & chases him on it.
** Part 2: Zenigata hears that the assassin Puma has shot Lupin. First he refuses to believe Lupin is dead, then he completely breaks down in tears, saying Lupin is his only reason to live, then starts rubbing his cheek against Lupin's face. Then he immediately runs out the door with a gun screaming that he'll shoot Lupin's killer, & is immediately arrested by a fellow officer.

* HoYay: In a series spanning nearly 50 years with a mostly male cast, there's bound to be a lot. Anything with Zenigata will be in Foe Yay.
** In Part 1 / Green Jacket series, Jigen absolutely despises Fujiko & acts horribly jealous of the amount of attention Lupin pays to her. He prevents her from visiting Lupin in jail for an entire year, throws Lupin out of a boat in a huff after he comments about a cute girl, saying he can go swim after her, & breaks down in tears when he things Mamoh has poofed Lupin out of existence.
** Part 1: Lupin & Jigen run off together into the sunset, slapping eachother on the back.
** Part 1: Goemon & Jigen both act like angry wives when they realize Lupin is late because he brought Fujiko home, Goemon storms off making a snide comment about women.
** Part 1: In one episode, Lupin pushes Jigen into a bush, taking a bullet to the arm to protect him.
** Part 1: Laughing after a caper involving drag, Lupin says Jigen made a "sexy maid."
** Castle of Cagliostro: Lupin & Jigen have been alone for a whole year without Fujiko or Goemon. At the castle ruins, Jigen puts Lupin into some pretty compromising positions trying to torture the silence out of him.
** Goodbye Partner: When Lupin confronts Roy Forest about Jigen's betrayal, he does so in a way that implies Jigen was cheating on him with another woman/man.
** Part 2: Lupin forcibly stripping Jigen of his clothing at a casino in Monaco.
** Part 2: Despite going to a nude beach to steal & statue & oogle women, Lupin was very VERY insistent that Jigen come with him. As soon as they walk out of the changing room. which they shared, the rest of the episode is just full of nude & shirtless men running around.
** Part 2: Episode 32 managed to be both the straightest & gayest episodes at the same time. After saving a girl from two rapists, she invites them to a palace full of half naked women that they were planning to rob. Lupin plays with the girls in the pool while Jigen sits in the corner looking extremely pissed & refuses to look at the girls. Lupin fondles the head lady & asks Jigen if he's jealous. Jigen responds in an extremely tsundere manner; "You idiot!"
** Part 2: Lupin & Jigen create a floating technique for falling situations, & they cling to eachother the whole time.
** Part 2: Jigen & Goemon only seem to shed tears when something terrible happens to Lupin & never for any temporary love interests who stab them in the back. When they think the Assassin Puma has gunned down & drowned Lupin, they completely lose their shit & take out their anger on the environment in tears while locals & tourists look on.

** Lupin III, the titular thief, is a debonair rogue always ready with a plan for a brand new caper. A thief who savors the rush and thrill of the theft far more than any monetary value, Lupin also delights in paying karmic justice to deserving victims. Throughout multiple anime incarnations, Lupin is characterized by choosing seemingly impossible ventures or is thrust into inescapable situations, only to execute a cunning plan and escape completely free, in one instance even outsmarting an ancient brain supposedly beyond any human being's. Rarely ever losing his playful grin, and always ready with witty repartee, Lupin remains one of anime's most successful examples of a GentlemanThief who is constantly capable of twisting a situation to his advantage.
** Lupin's occasional lover, rival and ally, Fujiko Mine, is his equal in brilliance and audaciousness. A skilled thief who lives for the rush of the theft, Fujiko is able to perform as many complex schemes as Lupin while constantly outwitting him and everyone around her to get her big score. In one instance in ''[[Anime/LupinIIITheWomanCalledFujikoMine The Woman Called Fujiko Mine]]'', she poses as a tutor at an all girls' school, allows one girl to seduce her, only to reveal she knew the girl was a cop in disguise, to fool him and steal the codes she needed. Equally capable of ruthlessness, Fujiko once escaped prison by seducing a guard and sending him to execution in her place, never hesitating to weaponize her sexuality. At the end, Fujiko allows nobody but her to define herself and stops at nothing to achieve her goals, no matter who she has to manipulate or fool, while always maintaining the same charismatic style as Lupin himself.
