** In ''The Most Hated Family in America'', Fred Phelps predicts that the then-88-year-old Billy Graham would soon die, and promises that when that happens, he and the rest of Westboro Baptist Church would picket Graham's funeral. Not only did Graham not actually die until nearly twelve years after the documentary was filmed, but Phelps would also in fact predecease him, dying in 2014.

* HarsherInHindsight: The documentary ''Savile'' features clips from the original ''When Louis met Jimmy'' documentary which now have a far more sinister edge. Creator/JimmySavile pointing out a caravan (later revealed to be where he abused some of his victims), him groping a mother and daughter in public, leering at a young woman, his eccentric behaviour and claims he has no one truly close to him are noted by Louis to have been clues to his true nature, yet at the same time an audacious smokescreen.

** Since his follow up on the Westboro Baptist Church in 2011, more members have left and Fred Phelps was eventually excommunicated for turning his back on the church doctrine before his death in 2014.
* JerkassWoobie: Many Westboro Baptist members. Sure, what they're preaching is horrific, but most of them were born within the cult and indoctrinated before they could do anything about it. A couple of them later become outright [[TheWoobie Woobies]] in the follow-up, after leaving the church and realising just how messed up their former lives were.
* MemeticMutation: Quite a few of the lines from ''The Most Hated Family in America'', but especially Louis reminding Steve Drain that Christ was in fact Jewish, and Fred Phelps' proclamation that "You're gonna eat your babies!"

Not a YMMV trope.

Moved to the trivia tab.

** Louis himself seems to consider the Savile documentary something of an OldShame, but returned to the subject in 2016 to review his own thoughts and feelings and interview those who had been impacted by his subject's crimes.

Not really an example, since Louis doesn't intend to caricature the entire United States. That would only really qualify if actual members of the Westboro Baptist Church loved his documentaries. In addition, it doesn't seem like Louis has a larger fanbase in one country than he does in another, which is the requirement of the sister trope Germans Love David Hasselhoff.

* MexicansLoveSpeedyGonzales: While made for a British audience, his documentaries have picked up quite a few fans in America, particularly from his dealings with the Westboro Baptist Church.

** Later on in the same documentary, Phelps predicted that Louis was going to mess up his documentary so badly that the BBC would fire him. Again, not only was Louis still at the company well over a decade later, but the documentary became arguably his best-known work, earned him a substantial U.S. fanbase, and was the first documentary that he produced a follow-up to.
