* CreatorsPet: A large part of the problem with Rayne's character is this: he will act like a selfish brat for the first 90% of any given storyline, edging about as close as he can get to the moment when any form of sympathy for the character is destroyed. Then, about three to five strips before the end, he'll have a PetTheDog moment that makes the other characters forget or forgive all the rude/offensive/destructive/etc. things he did before. The problem, of course, is that the readers aren't inclined to let the occasional good deed make up for all the crap one has to go through to get to it.

* HilariousInHindsight: Rayne is seen [[http://leasticoulddo.com/comic/20080510?bust=1 here]] bashing webcomic artists for not being willing to put in the work for accolades and acceptance, and even makes fun of an artist in a later strip for not updating regularly. Then along came a little webcomic called ''{{Webcomic/Homestuck}}'', whose updates can provide any reader with ''years'' worth of strips, if each one is read daily, even ''with'' ScheduleSlip.

* HoYay: The extremely straight Rayne has often been shown to have a mancrush on Aragorn from ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings''.

* TheScrappy: Rayne. That's right, ''the main character'' is the Scrappy.
** Mostly results from the inconsistent tone that often gives the viewer very few hints as to when the character is supposed to be comedic and when he's supposed to be taken seriously, with this taken up to eleven by Sohmer's tendency to [[AuthorOnBoard put political rants in his characters' mouths]] that are non-sequiturs in the context of the character's normal behavior even when they aren't a bit absurd or [[StrawmanPolitical intentionally offensive]] in themselves.
** Additionally, many of Rayne's redeeming qualities are never shown on-screen or even at all, leaving a character the narrative treats as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold BunnyEarsLawyer as more of a JerkWithAHeartOfJerk and GeneralFailure.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: 2011 Strip on Emperor Palpatine as a "Empire as legitimate government" being ShallowParody on UsefulNotes/GeorgeWBush made people wish that they go with the idea of difficulty in running TheEmpire rather than dated political satire.

Not a subjective trope.

* AbortedArc: The comic is so full of them that a common theme in the comics is for people to ask if this actually will matter in a week.
** Pretty much any time Rayne decides he's going to 'fix' something with a 'brilliant' idea that plot will instantly be forgotten. This includes:
*** Using air craft carriers to haul food to starving nations.
*** Buying his old newspaper (itself an abandoned arc) to redo how print journalism is done
*** Buying his friend's TV station in order to create better visual media journalism
*** Coming up with with a plan to restructure the company's pay scale and hiring
*** The daycare
** Around 2018 the creator fell in love with the character of Julie and decided that she would become Rayne's live-in girlfriend. As a result nearly all the supporting cast before her moving in disappeared completely and their storylines were aborted. This includes:
*** Issa and Rayne's will they/won't they, her marriage into a rich family that hated her, her working for Rayne's company despite having no business experience, and her having a child.
*** John and his search for love.
*** Mick and the issues at his TV station, his issues with his mother.
*** Rayne's sister and her family save for Rayne's niece.
*** His mother's health scare.
** Characters that remain in the fic don't fair much better either, as Sohmer has shown that he has zero problem completely forgetting their story arcs in the name of letting Rayne do what he wants.
*** Marcy and Rayne's Will They/Won't They
*** Julie's father and his utter hatred for Rayne, to the point that Wild Bill is NEVER mentioned after 2020 and Julie now is the sole owner of her company (which she sells without talking to her father)

Flame Bait. Also, Values Dissonance requires a 20-year waiting period.

* MarySue: Rayne, full stop. Everyone loves him no matter how vile, racist, sexist, or bigoted he gets. He's always the smartest person in the room and the only one that can do anything right. Never has any problems and instead is there to fix everyone else's. Every plot, even including the weddings of support cast members or the birth of their children, MUST revolve around him.

* ValuesDissonance: A LOT of the comic hasn't aged well thanks to its humor now being seen as racist and sexist. This includes:
** Rayne forcing a lesbian employee to out herself to him and then declaring her new name is "Munchie" and she has to watch porn with him
** Rayne dressing in racist Native American garb to mock his boss' new boyfriend who happens to be Native American
** Rayne keeping a Mexican child locked in his trunk
** The fact that 'Street Urchin', a homeless child, isn't allowed to age like every other human character, meaning he is seen as a pet rather than a person.
** The fact that save for the Urchin all the examples above only appeared in a single arc and were instantly dropped from the strip, making it clear they weren't characters at all but merely plot devices for the creator's racist/sexist/bigoted humor.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope
