The fact that this manga has an anime and a live action adaptation shows that the premise is solid, and as the example itself mentions "few people complained about the plot itself or the personalities of the main cast. "

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The characters' exaggerated design and large, unsettling eyes pushed away a lot of people from the adaptation, despite the fact that few people complained about the plot itself or the personalities of the main cast. At the same time, those who are unused to plotlines such as [[spoiler: the best friend of the protagonist is [[GayOption actually being in his "harem"]]]] and have a tendency to react with "no homo" may shy away from it too.

* HoYay: Yukari and Nisaka. Yukari often thinks to himself how handsome Nisaka is and how lucky he is to have a guy like that as a friend, and Nisaka [[spoiler:is actually in love with him]]. This is to say nothing of Chapter 184, where [[spoiler:Yukari forcibly kisses him twice, once with tongue... to prove that they can still be friends despite Nisaka kissing him in his sleep and confessing.]]

* RewatchBonus: The movie tie-in chapter has quite a few {{Easter Egg}}s after going through the story again. Little details, such as [[spoiler:Nisaka's niece being unfamiliar with Nejima]] are put into a new light.

Misuse of the page/link. This is about fandom's internal disagreements.

* BrokenBase: The Yukari system invites debate among readers, [[IntendedAudienceReaction perhaps intentionally]]. Their biggest goal is to increase the birth rates of Japan, and they go about it by... choosing the most suitable romantic partner for you when you turn 16, making it no better than a government-run dating service. And the worst drama that can happen at this point is that you don't end up with a person you were already dating/in love with, if they're not already your chosen partner. At the same time, it can also turn into NightmareFuel for understandable reasons, if the authorities' choice is unsuccessful or you are gay / not interested in the romantic relationship.

* BrokenAesop:
** Although episode 6 in open text states that the government forces selected couples to have sex in order to strengthen their communication and conduct a sex education, which is very shocking to Yukari and Lilina, they are almost the only ones in the audience who are surprised. In fact, because of this, it's even more like a popular plot from an H manga than a dramatic tense moment.
** Although the work is almost completely built on the arranged marriage trope for drama, some of the audience complained that the series does not handle this topic very well, portraying most of the selected couples as [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage matches made in heaven]] and not exploring the negative sides to the Yukari laws apart from one incident. The main love triangle itself also has a strong positive bias for Lilina, Neji's arranged partner, and turns Misaki into an increasingly obvious RomanticFalseLead.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForLittleGirls: The series is often mistaken for a shoujo outside of its home country because of the themes and the drama surrounding the protagonists. The live action movie {{Gender Flip}}ping the premise surprised no one because of this.

* ArcFatigue: Nisaka's [[ADayInTheLimelight Day In the Limelight]] had quite a few readers bemoaning its length. Taking up over twenty chapters covering Nisaka and Yukari's friendship and the former's backstory, it took up quite a bit of time to wrap up while only giving hints towards the main plot (ie the false notice and the LoveTriangle).

Taking As it took up over twenty chapters (three in the compilations) covering [[spoiler:the beginning and end of]] Nisaka and Yukari's friendship and the former's backstory, it took up quite a bit on top of time to wrap up while only giving hints towards the main plot (ie whole thing being kicked off by [[spoiler:Nejima's ill-advised kiss with the false notice and the LoveTriangle).boy]], people who were originally all for leaning more about Nisaka were eventually put off.

As written, this doesn't seem like a terribly hard or uncomfortable message, it's just not terribly romantic.

* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: It is possible that your mutual love with your partner is only an illusion and a product of ordinary sexual desire, if it is not based on anything other than your external attractiveness.

** Chapter 204 and 205 basically have Neji and Nisaka outline why they like each other, with Neji even musing that he's not sure ''what'' he feels for the other boy if not friendship. When they finally decide [[spoiler:to end their friendship]], the hug they give each other is way more intimate than any they'd ever given to each other before.
