* DevelopmentHell: This game started as the GameCube title, was scrapped, then went through several re-imaginings until this became the final product. According to [[http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/wii/kirby-dream-land/0/0 this interview]], development started as soon as ''Kirby 64'' was completed, meaning it took ''eleven years'' for it to be released.

* TheTetrisEffect: If one plays through the ability stages enough, they might have the tendency to have to do everything with precision and on the first try.

* DifficultySpike: Both worlds of [[spoiler:Halcandra.]]

** The Spark ability in this game is ''brutal.'' It combines the classic Spark (hold down attack to erect an electric force-field) with the Plasma ability's[[note]]from VideoGame/KirbySuperStar[[/note]]charged-shot mechanic. Unlike KSS, however, where you had to charge by mashing the D-Pad in various directions, you can charge KRTD's Spark by shaking the Wiimote, which can quickly and easily fully charge the shot (although you can also mash the controller in this game as well) -- combined with the fact that the fully charged blast deals ''ludicrous'' damage to just about anything, it can take down even the FinalBoss in less than a minute. That is, of course, assuming your wrists don't get sore from waggling while dodging attacks.

** Meta Knight can use his Shuttle Loop from ''SuperSmashBros Brawl'' in this game. It eats at boss HP like crazy and it's very spammable.

* BreatherBoss: Plot-wise, the Metal General, who comes in between the climactic fights against the Grand Doomer and Landia. [[spoiler: This was made up for in Extra Mode, where he got the greatest changes, becoming a Sequential Boss with HR-D3. Its appearence pretty much strips him of his Breather boss status in Extra Mode.]]

* DifficultySpike: Both worlds of [[spoiler: Halcandra.]]
* DracoInLeatherPants: [[spoiler:Magolor]]. He was a evil guy who tricked Kirby and the others to fight Landia in order to get [[spoiler: the Master Crown]]. Fans often try to excuse his behavior by claiming that Zero or Dark Matter possessed him. Sure [[spoiler: Magolor actually becomes Kirby's friend for real in Kirby Dream Collection]], but fans gave him this treatment before that even happened.

** Special mention goes to the Leaf ability. Its guard renders you completely intangible to almost all attacks (it won't save you from being sucked into a vortex of pain, for example) so if you're having trouble dodging certain enemy maneuvers, grab Leaf, hold A and forget.
** Not to mention the Tornado ability. It makes Kirby completely invincible until he stops spinning, making it easy to avoid damage ''and'' punish enemy assaults. Not only that, but it now has a charging attack that is used by shaking the Wiimote while Kirby is spinning. When he stops, the tornado spreads out as it dissipates, causing a ton of constant damage and covering Kirby as he recovers. Needless to say, mastering Tornado is just about the same as mastering Spark, and having at least two Kirbys with both of these abilities will absolutely wreck any boss that stands in their way.

* HoYay: Face-to-Face, a returning ability which allows you to heal your teammates immediately after eating a health item by touching them. In game, you kiss your teammates... who are all male. This is made even funnier by the fact that the manual shows a picture of Face-to-Face in action with Kirby and Meta Knight "healing" (coughkissingcough) each other [[http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/midnightsage16/metakirbyhoyay.png]] .

* DracoInLeatherPants: [[spoiler:Magolor]] has become a victim of this. Many fans just won't accept the fact that he was a evil guy who tricked Kirby and the others to fight Landia in order to get [[spoiler: the Master Crown]]. Fans often try to excuse his behavior by claiming that Zero or Dark Matter possessed him. Why can't fans just accept that he is a bad guy? Sure [[spoiler: Magolor actually becomes Kirby's friend for real in Kirby Dream Collection]], but fans gave him this treatment before that even happened.

* RecycledScript:
** This was like "Crystal Shards" all over again with a tint of "Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland". The game requires you to go through stages and often use abilities or just plain skill in order to get Gears for the ship, which fell from the sky from another world that broke into thousands of pieces when it landed. Collecting all 120 very likely unlocks a hidden boss, right? Along the way you're helped by two of your former enemies and a character that appeared from a previous game(or was a clone?). However, in the later worlds, your levels are increased to four levels and a boss to eventually five levels and a boss. [[spoiler: And don't get me started on how obvious the villain is.]]
** Some felt it was more like Milky Way Wishes: The Full-Sized Game, [[spoiler: starring Magolor as Marx]], although you're not limited to using Copy Esscences.

** The original belief that this game was the {{GameCube}} game averting DevelopmentHell, which made many fans burst with TearsOfJoy.
** [[MakingASplash Water]] [[KirbyOfTheStars Kirby]] is now playable.
** Ultra Sword Kirby[[hottip:*:and all the ultra abilities, for that matter]] appears to be a ShoutOut to ''[[SuperSmashBros Brawl's]]'' [[LimitBreak Final Smashes]].
** King Dedede, Meta Knight, and a Waddle Dee are playable. This would make the third time after ''Nightmare in Dreamland'', and ''[[VideoGame/KirbySuperStar Kirby Super Star Ultra]]'' Meta Knight is a playable character in a "traditional" Kirby game.
** And what if you want to play multiplayer, but still have everyone with Kirby's copy powers? Turns out everyone can be Kirby if you so desire!
** Also, Destructoid gave it a 10 out of 10.
