* AngstWhatAngst: When villains target out heroes, it's not uncommon for innocent civilians to become collateral damage. Examples can be found in every part, but the most extreme example is probably in Part 5, where Cioccolata probably killed most of the coastal Italian village's population, plus a good chunk of Rome's, with his Green Day, in an attempt to stop Bucciarati's squad. Yet, heroes rarely seem to express guilt over the many innocent lives that are lost just because they happened to be near them at the wrong time.

*** Part 5, Vento Aureo, is loved and hated for similar reasons to part 3. It brings back the MonsterOfTheWeek formula that made Stardust Crusaders so polarizing, although this time the abilities tend to be more diverse and interesting. The group of heroes is considered to be one of the best in the series thanks to their close bonds, although the protagonist, Giorno Giovanna, is sometimes criticized for being a SupportingProtagonist who takes a back-seat to Bruno Buccellati. Another common criticism is the BigBad, Diavolo, who is either a mysterious and threatening figure, or a boring and generic villain with incomprehensible motives. The final confrontation is also extremely divisive, with its detractors pointing to the MindScrew-worthy abilities of the characters making the action nearly impossible to follow, and the climax being a colossal AssPull.
*** Part 6, Stone Ocean, is controversial mostly for its ending, [[spoiler:which acts as a huge ResetButton for the entire franchise]]. Some fans applaud the audacity of [[spoiler:killing off the heroes and resetting the universe]] and consider it an emotional sendoff for the original universe (as the next part, Steel Ball Run, is a ContinuityReboot), while others feel it [[ShootTheShaggyDog makes everything that happened up to this point completely pointless]]. It also is home to some of the strangest Stands in the series (Heavy Weather, Limp Bizkit, Dragon's Dream) and has some of the suckiest (Jail House Lock, Highway to Hell, Survivor); either this is fine, since [=JoJo=] isn't a stranger to bizarre themes or [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower weak abilities]], or it's pushing the "Bizarre" aspect of the series too far with [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway Stand powers that are just laughably counterintuitive]].

The other is that the Stand Arrow only gives Requiem Stands to those it deems "worthy", which has some basis in the story, but otherwise doesn't outright match up or explain it.
** To explain why Yoshikage Kira received a new power instead of a Requiem Stand (ignoring just the fact that the concept didn't exist in Part 4), fans often believe that how a Stand User is pierced by the arrow will determine what ability they receive. Kira himself was stabbed with the arrow, thus gaining Bites the Dust, while Giorno pierced Gold Experience with it, evolving it into a Requiem Stand. The series never outright confirms this, but its consistent with what happens to make it more likely.
