*** A lot of long time fans are fans of ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar''. This is because both series starting running in Shonen Jump around the same time. Both series feature [[RatedMForManly manly men doing manly things]] and insane amounts of over the top the violence. It helps that the first three installments's design was inspired by Tetsuo Hara's artstyle.

** ''Battle Tendency'' was where the series went from unintentionally over-the-top, to not only embracing it, but cranking it UpToEleven. It's also where the series' penchant for fights based more on intelligence and clever tricks truly started. Granted, there were a few moments like that in the previous part, usually revolving around Dio, but the sequel went full bore on it by turning the protagonist into a full-on GuileHero and making almost everyone he goes up against not just NighInvulnerable, but extremely clever as well.\\
\\
In an interesting parallel, ''[=JoJo=]'s Bizarre Adventure: The Animation'' also got noticeably better during this part of the adaptation due to an increase in budget, allowing for more character movement, and a larger number of episodes dedicated to it, allowing for better pacing. It allowed the viewer to feel more emotionally invested in the characters.

*** A theory that's gaining traction is that Jotaro may be afflicted with PTSD after his battle with Dio, thanks to the way the anime has him react to certain things (like when [[http://i.imgur.com/KVLnKWI.jpg he heard Dio's name]] or during [[http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/176/026/efc.jpg his fight with Kira]].

*** Speaking of Joseph, the casting of Creator/BenDiskin isn't being debated as good or bad (most agree that he does a good job), but whether it's appropriate that he sound just like [[WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor Numbuh One]] or whether he should've tried for a more unique sounding voice. Others debate whether his [[UpperClassTwit British accent]] was a good fit, or whether he should've used a different kind of accent such as Cockney or Estuary, or none at all. The same goes for all the other characters with accents.

** The recasting of certain characters in Part 4 is a point of contention with some, especially since it applies to way more characters compared to the transition of Part 3's voice actors from ''All-Star Battle'' to the anime. Though back to Part 4; Creator/WataruHatano is replaced by Creator/YukiOno as Josuke, Creator/RomiPark is replaced by Creator/YukiKaji as Koichi, and Creator/HiroshiKamiya is replaced by Creator/TakahiroSakurai as Rohan. Fans are either annoyed since they think the first set of actors portrayed the characters best; happy, as they think the new actors are good choices; or confused as to why they're being replaced while still thinking the new seiyuu will do a good job. It doesn't help that this announcement was made before the release of ''Eyes of Heaven'' (which uses the first cast) and Creator/YukiKaji playing Johnny Joestar in ''All Star Battle'' and ''Eyes of Heaven'' already.
*** In particular Creator/YukiKaji as Koichi has been a divided casting choice. Some don't mind him voicing Koichi and think he's a good fit while others don't think his generic {{shonen}} hero voice works well for Koichi alongside of the fact that he's very overused in Japanese dubs.
*** Even though both performances have been well regarded among fans, whether Creator/RikiyaKoyama or Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa was the better voice for Yoshikage Kira has caused a divide. It also doesn't help that much like Creator/YuukiKaji above, Morikawa was already Diavolo in the Namco Bandai video games.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Ranks up there with ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'' and ''Manga/ApocalypseZero'' as the top candidate for this trope. The sheer frank homoeroticism and casual ''brutality'' of this franchise, tolerable to teenage boys in Japan, would have [[ComicBook/ChickTracts Jack Chick]] doing gymnastics in his grave! ''Vento Aureo'' is probably the worst in this regard, occurring before the shift to a more mature seinen magazine--each and every arc in the series (which is to each of the dozen conflicts with stand users) centers around some aspect of bloody, gory, painful body horror. The next part, ''Stone Ocean'', is also pretty bad with the gore. And has prostitutes, vibrators as currency and people exploding into snails.

Its video game adaptation being SoOkayItsAverage and its movie adaptation being a bomb doesn't help either.

* ShipMates: A lot of fans who ship Jotaro/Kakyoin also ship Polnareff with Avdol, due to their many moments of HoYay, and headcanoning Joseph formally being in a relationship with Caesar. The same applies for Giorno/Mista shippers also going with Abbacchio/Bucellati and Narancia/Fugo. [[OT3 Jolyne/Ermes/Foo Fighters]] fans ship Annasui with Weather Report.

** One of the most popular couple is Dio and Pucci, as they are shown to share many intimate moments, such as one time when both are lying in the same bed reading. Somehow Araki thought that [[http://ls57tiger.freepgs.com/jojo/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6796 it would represent two buddies crashing at each other's place.]] He might as well have Anti Shipping Goggles at this point.
* ShipsThatPassInTheNight:
** Although Jotaro/Kakyoin is [[FanPreferredCouple hugely popular in the fandom]], the two are not very close in the original manga, given that Jotaro does not talk much to anyone in Part 3 aside from his grandfather. In fact, their interaction in the source material is so limited that it actually leans closer to the CrackPairing side. Much of the pairing's popularity appears to stem rather from [[MrSeahorse an infamous doujinshi]] made by Creator/{{CLAMP}} in the early 90's (as well as the two main characters in one of their works, ''Manga/{{Wish}}'', very strongly resembling Jotaro and Kakyoin in both names and appearance). Seeming acknowledged in ''[[VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureEyesOfHeaven Eyes of Heaven]]'', where Jotaro and Kakyoin are part 3's 'official' duo similarly to how Joseph and Caesar are part 2's duo.
** Giorno/Jolyne has a fair degree of popularity even though they've never met (despite some [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot teasing of a cameo]] in Stone Ocean) and he's technically her [[TangledFamilyTree great-great-great-uncle]]. Even Araki's drawn art of them getting frisky.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Plenty of examples from throughout the series' long life. In rough chronological order...
** Santana, the [[DiscOneFinalBoss first Pillar Man encountered and defeated]], while a little slow on the uptake, was still an ''immensely'' quick learner, and was TakenForGranite and brought in for research by the Speedwagon Foundation at the end of his arc, with very few failsafes mentioned to prevent his escape. He never appears again, not even getting a Mode like the other three.
** Hol Horse, who had signs of strongly considering a HeelFaceTurn, [[WhatCouldHaveBeen and even would have had Avdol not returned]], and is generally one of the more popular minor villains in the series. Instead, he suffers heavily from (admittedly hilarious) BadassDecay.
** While Noriaki Kakyoin was a major ally for a good chunk of the story, he was hit hard with this during the Egypt section of Part 3, being PutOnABus to recover until [[BackForTheDead the Crusaders were heading into DIO's place.]] He gets set up to have a cool fight against Telence, [[HopeSpot but]] ends up losing and generally doing nothing more of significance [[spoiler:except for leaving a DyingClue.]]
*** At least the anime adds some scene that gives him some development, such as flashbacks. And if his image song "Goodbye Nostalgia" is anything to go by, may have had a low view on himself.
** Muhammad Avdol gets it even worse. After recruiting Polnareff, he was PutOnABus when the Crusaders reached India (fairly early in the story) and only returned by the end of the Judgment arc. He doesn't do much of significance upon his return, and he only has two fights afterwards; one shared with Joseph and the other [[spoiler:is barely even a fight since he ended up being killed by Vanilla Ice in one shot.]] And all of this is an ''improvement'' on the original gameplan, that he would've just straight died in India and been replaced with his killer. All in all, it's pretty clear that Araki had no clue what else to do with the poor guy.
** Tomoko Higashikata, Josuke's mother in Part 4, shows signs of an interesting personality and dynamic with her son (and is said to still not be over Joseph), but barely ever appears and is explicitly kept away from him for her own sake.
** Tonio Trussardi is the only Stand-using ally in Part 4 who does absolutely nothing after his debut arc, only getting a couple cameos.
** Shizuka Joestar never reappears after the conclusion of Part 4. While not a Joestar by blood, mention of her would've provided interesting insight on what Joseph and the others were up to in the time after Part 4, and an older Shizuka with more control over her invisibility powers would've made a very useful ally to Jotaro and Jolyne.
** Koichi Hirose becomes this in Part 5, seemingly having a prominent role in the first few arcs as a connection to Jotaro and the SPW foundation, only to [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse drop off the face of the story.]]
** Giorno Giovanna himself. Despite being the nominal protagonist of Part 5, the story focuses primarily on Bruno and does little to actually explore the ramifications of Giorno being Dio/Jonathan's son.
** Pannacotta Fugo, who chose to OptOut right when the plot really intensified. The ramifications of doing so are explored in ''Purple Haze Feedback.''
** Risotto Nero was the AntiVillain leader of the assassins Bucciarati's gang had been fighting for the lion's share of the Part, had an absolutely ''devastating'' power (also putting him under TooPowerfulToLive), [[spoiler:and gets beaten [[TheUnfought without them even knowing he was there]], courtesy of Diavolo/Doppio and some timely intervention by Aerosmith.]] He then proceeds to get next to no representation in any of the game-related media.
** Foo Fighters, one of the more popular characters in Part 6, is one of the most unique character concepts in recent history, [[spoiler:is not only the first major ally to go, but due to her nature, has absolutely no counterpart in the ''Steel Ball Run'' verse. She's also pretty shafted from videogame adaptations despite her versatile powers and popularity.]]
** Jolyne’s unnamed mother, from what little we’ve seen of her, she cares deeply for Jolyne. She was also married (and eventually divorced) to Jotaro, which had the potential to show how she and someone like [[TheStoic Jotaro]] got into and acted in an intimate relationship.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** Alessi from ''Stardust Crusaders'' had a Stand that could turn people into younger versions of themselves. There just so happened to be a CoolOldGuy among the Crusaders who kicked a lot of ass in his youth, as documented in ''Battle Tendency''. Too bad Alessi ended up getting pounded into hamburger by Jotaro and Polnareff before he came across Joseph. For what it's worth, ''[[VideoGame/JojosBizarreAdventureHeritageForTheFuture Heritage for the Future]]'' explored this scenario with Joseph's Story, though it was more of an ExcusePlot than anything.
** In ''Stone Ocean'' while Enrico Pucci's actions attracted to Florida three young men who were all DIO's sons, Giorno was nowhere to be seen despite DIO's blood in him. Araki hints that Giorno may be in Florida after all, though the reason he wasn't drawn to the priest is unknown. It would be a good occasion to make the character interact with Jolyne.

** [[spoiler:Every one of Part 6's heroes besides Emporio, in particular Foo Fighters.]]

** [[http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121127052340/jjba/images/e/e2/NijimuraPatriarch.png Okuyasu's mutated father]] might count.
* UncannyValley:
** A lot of people find "cute" Iggy's face to be unsettling due to his cartoonier proportions making his face more humanlike, causing them to find his earlier and more realistic appearance cuter.
** Diavolo's [[HellishPupils eyes]] are drawn differently than anyone else's in the manga, and it does look pretty unsettling.
** His stand isn't any better; King Crimson's eyeballs are placed ''outside'' the eye sockets. Its perpetual sadistic glare doesn't help either.
** Oyecomova from ''Part 7''. Seriously, [[http://images.wikia.com/jjba/images/2/28/Oyecomova.jpg just look at him]].
** The animated version of ''Phantom Blood'' often falls into this thanks to the very still and inexpressive characters that resulted from its low animation budget. Jonathan is the most common victim of this, though the Blu-ray/DVD releases fixed most of the faces.
* TropesAreNotBad: Explains why the anime revival is one of the most well-received anime TV series in recent years. Yes the entire franchise is basically a ClicheStorm of tropes from shounen manga and fiction in general, but it's done with such a strong sense of self-awareness that it's refreshing. A lot of praise for the franchise comes from the fact that it is able to be an action-epic while embracing its own campiness. For a lot of people this has made it the antithesis to other popular shounen like ''{{Franchise/Naruto}}'' which lost sight of what made them enjoyable in the first place or series like ''Manga/AkameGaKill'' and ''Manga/FutureDiary'' which are widely criticized for trying to combine shounen tropes with grimdark storytelling.
* ValuesDissonance: Giorno and Bruno are involved in the mafia, which is guilty of a wide swath of terrible deeds, such as the murder of innocents, blackmail, extortion, and assassination. Yet for them the big crossing of the MoralEventHorizon comes from gang members selling drugs to children. While most Westerners can agree that it's terrible, they wouldn't consider it as so much necessarily worse than those other things combined either. Part of this can be explained by Japan and the almost all the Asian continent,[[note]]Barring Yemen, North Korea and Israel, which recently became one of the few Asian countries on legalizing marijuana, albeit culture-wise Israel is considered itself as a westernized country which happens to be located in Asia by everybody else.[[/note]] having a much stronger stigma against drug usage than most countries in western countries ([[AndZoidberg and Israel]]), to the point that even minor marijuana offenses face steep sentences. The anime adaptation of ''Vento Aureo'', while keeping that part intact, makes a difference between selling drugs to adults [[UnacceptableTargets to selling drugs to children in a very justified way for everyone else, regardless the country the viewer is from]]

Araki hints that Giorno may be in Florida after all, though the reason he wasn't drawn to the priest is unknown. It would be a good occasion to make the character interact with Jolyne.

** [[http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121127052340/jjba/images/e/e2/NijimuraPatriarch.png Okuyasu's mutated father]] might count.
* UncannyValley:

** ''Vento Aureo'' is probably the worst in this regard, occurring before the shift to a more mature seinen magazine--each and every arc in the series (which is to each of the dozen conflicts with stand users) centers around some aspect of bloody, gory, painful body horror. The next part, ''Stone Ocean'', is also pretty bad with the gore. And has prostitutes, vibrators as currency and people exploding into snails.

* {{Woolseyism}}: Due to a lot of instances of the dialogue being odd or GratuitousEnglish, the English dub of Part 1 and 2 changed some of the lines to make more sense.
** Joseph's banter when he meets Santana was translated as best as it could be. Instead of saying a difficult-to-translate Japanese pun[[note]]Basically Joseph is taking the Kanji in the sentence "Happy to meet you!" and moving it around, meaning he's literally not making sense to mock Santana[[/note]], Joseph instead treats Santana like a model just to mess with him.
** References to British culture are more apparent in the Part 1 dub. For example, Speedwagon calls himself the Queen of England in response to seeing Dio survived being lit on fire, and Dio himself references Hamlet at one point.
** In Part 3, Kakyoin's "Rerorerorerorerorero" is translated into "Licklicklicklicklicklick" and somehow it made [[spoiler:Rubber Soul posing as]] Kakyoin much more eerie.

** A week or two after Creator/RobinWilliams died, the Judgment episode of ''Stardust Crusaders'' airs in Japan. It features a boisterous, LargeHam of a genie who even sounds somewhat identical to the character from the Disney film. Keep in mind that this particular chapter was published before ''Disney/{{Aladdin}}'' came out.

** The infamous 1994 CLAMP doujinshi where [[MrSeahorse Kakyoin gives birth]] to a baby whose stand is a mixture of his and Jotaro, with the ability to unravel its body into tentacles and RapidFireFisticuffs. 6 years later, Stone Ocean stars Jotaro's daughter, Jolyne, and she has the ability to unravel her stand into string, has RapidFireFisticuffs, and even a battle cry of "Ora ora ora!". This is lampshaded in a [[https://youtu.be/uKL2mituEgo fan video.]]
***
]] In both the doujinshi and canon, Jotaro's kids have a rocky relationship with him while they adore their mother, so take what you will from that.

** As mentioned in HarsherInHindsight above, the episode where [[spoiler:Kakyoin gets a hole punched through his stomach by DIO's STAND]] was released on National Donut Day. The episode where Josuke and Okuyasu eat at Tonio's restaurant and Okuyasu's spaghetti gets punched by Josuke's STAND aired exactly one year later.
** In the early parts of Stardust Crusaders he comments on how terrible Japanese coffee tastes, then fast-forward to Part 4 where he comments about how good Japanese coffee tastes. [[http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1139917-jojo-s-bizarre-adventure He really must be going senile...]]

About a year later, Creator/{{Toonami}} officially announced that the anime really would be airing, though starting with the ''Phantom Blood'' arc instead.
** In ''Manga/DragonBall'', which ran in the same magazine that ''JJBA'' did prior to the latter moving to Ultra Jump, Guldo, who had the ability to stop time, was introduced, and he is widely seen as a JokeCharacter, since he had to hold his breath while using said ability, and he was unceremoniously killed off by [[TheRival Vegeta]][[note]]to be fair, he did give Gohan and Krillin a hard time, but it's worth noting that at the time, Gohan was a child, and Krillin was (and still is) a human[[/note]]. A few years later in ''Stardust Crusaders'' DIO gets the same ability, but ends up being one of the most powerful characters in the part!

** Nazis pulling a HeelFaceTurn.
** Part 2 near the ending: Nazi-eating, Vampire Squirrels [[spoiler:that's actually the hand of [[AGodAmI Kars]]]].
** During Jotaro and DIO's fight, it escalates into near-DBZ tier when both of them start flying, but what tops the "Holy Shit" cake is when [[spoiler: DIO drops a motherfucking STEAMROLLER onto Jotaro.]]
** Start from chapter one of ''Stone Ocean'' -- and you'll still go "WTF???!!!!" trying to figure out the freaky basis of the latest enemy Stand! [[spoiler: And then the universe ends.]]
** Whitesnake, a Stand who can open your head ''like it was a DISC player'' and take out [=DISCs=] containing either your PsychicPowers or your [[OurSoulsAreDifferent soul]].
** In the opening of Chapter 47 of the ''Stardust Crusaders'' anime [[spoiler:DIO breaks the fourth wall and interrupts the opening to have a duel with Jotaro]]. The cherry on the top of the cake is ''that David Production planned it from the beginning.''
** Part 8 starts off with the protagonist who is discovered to have four testicles, and it only gets more and more bizarre from there, even by [=JoJo's=] standards, which, considering everything else listed here, is saying ''a lot''.
** Similar to episode 47 of ''Stardust Crusaders'' above, the opening of episode 36 of ''Diamond is Unbreakable'' has [[spoiler:Kira using Bites the Dust to ''rewind'' the opening!]]

** Yoshikage Kira's existence, considering he only debuts or receives significant buildup shortly before the halfway point of the story. On that note, Akira Otoishi being a DiscOneFinalBoss.
** Due to his and his stand's infamously poor reputation, Diavolo and King Crimson are pretty well-known. This makes his desire to make himself come off as TheGhost and an UltimateEvil even more inept.
* IronWoobie:
** Jonathan's life became horrible when Dio entered the scene. He loses his dog, his girlfriend, and all his friends. He somehow makes it to adulthood without a single noticeable emotional scar.
** Joseph's life was also bad, thanks to Dio's influence. His father was killed by one of Dio's surviving zombies, his mother [[spoiler:had to go into hiding after killing that zombie]], he grew up a lonely child, and it's heavily implied his [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold colorful]] personality developed as a defense mechanism, [[spoiler:his best friend was killed by a near immortal vampire-like being]], by Part 3, most of the people who had been his allies have died, his daughter was on the verge of death due to Dio's influence, Dio even [[spoiler:succeeded in killing]] him for a time, and it takes nearly bleeding himself to death before his attempts to bond with his grandson work. Yet, he's still one of the more optimistic [=JoJo=]s.
** All the shit Jolyne goes through at the beginning of ''Stone Ocean'', living most of her life with her father absent even during times where she was in critical health. It makes her determination to save her father all the more heartwarming.
** Kakyoin has a FriendlessBackground, [[spoiler:never having any friends for his whole life, as it was his own choice since he's aware that he'll never connect with anyone, not even his own parents, due to having a Stand]]. But yet shows no hints of it until the episode where [[spoiler:he dies, and it's pretty heartbreaking to know that the first friends he ever made are also his last]]. This [[TearJerker gets even more sadder]] if you listen to his ImageSong ''Goodbye Nostalgia''.
** Okuyasu. Lost his mother at an early aged and regularly abused by his grieving father. Then, his father gets mutated into a disfigured monster, and his older brother Keicho would often bully him and put him down. [[spoiler:Just when there's hope of him reconciling with his brother, Keicho gets killed by Akira Otoishi]]. Despite that, he still pushes on and tries to make the best out of what he has.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Caesar is a bit of a showoffy jerk and rival to Joseph, but the HeroicSacrifice of his father, pent-up resentment towards Joseph for his grandfather's sacrifice for ''his'' grandfather, and his desire to prove himself in everyone's eyes are what draw fans to him and his bond with Joseph.
** Keicho Nijimura debuts as a cold bastard who attacks people with the Bow and Arrow to draw Stands out of them; uncaring if people die or if the new users hurt others. He's abusive to his brother and even tries to dispose of him when Okuyasu gets in his way. Then we learn his backstory where in his childhood he was kinder and more protective of his younger brother especially after they lost their mother and their father turns abusive. [[spoiler:Upon seeing his father devolve into a pitiful and barely human monster, Keicho would rather ShootTheDog and put him out of his misery than let him continue as a pitiful shell of a man]]. In the end [[spoiler:his past comes back to bite him when one of the people he gave powers to returns to kill him, but Keicho's last action is to save his younger brother]]. Upon seeing his remains Okuyasu breaks down.
--->'''Okuyasu''': My Big Bro... deserved to end up like that. There's no way he could have lived a decent life. That was his fate. But you know... In the end, in the very end my big bro defended me didn't he?
** Shigechi is a FatBastard who tries to screw his friends out of money in their introductory arc, but he becomes their close friend regardless. Ultimately, he's a middle-schooler with no friends besides Okuyasu and Josuke, very protective of his family, and [[spoiler:his death at the hands of Kira Yoshikage is absolutely heart-rending.]]
** The members of Bucciarati's gang in part 5 are gangsters, and much of what that entails, but all of them have sympathetic qualities which shine on through, and their TrueCompanions nature, [[DarkAndTroubledPast tragic backstories]], and [[BlackAndGrayMorality the depravity of the real villains]] make it easy to root for them. When some of them die, [[RealityEnsues it's nearly always sudden, meaningless, and painful]], and even [[spoiler:Fugo choosing to OptOut, and the rest of the scene being the rest of the group leaving him behind, right down to [[MoralityPet Narancia]], is a massive TearJerker.]]
*** Their opposition, La Squadra di Esecuzione, are a group of TrueCompanions and {{Anti Villain}}s who got screwed over by Diavolo, which is the reason why they're trying to kill Trish and the rest of Bruno's gang. Nero himself has faced tragedy not unlike the protagonists, and once he gets a good chance to get back at Diavolo, the rest of his gang has already been killed.
** Enrico Pucci in Part 6. Despite cementing himself as the franchise's most [[spoiler:famous HeroKiller]], you can't deny that he definitely had a lot of baggage on him. From the discovery of [[spoiler:his long-lost twin whom he believed to be dead to witnessing the suicide of his beloved sister because of his [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom mistakes]]]], you can see why he fell into DIO's clutches.
* JustHereForGodzilla: In Part 3, people most remember the Jotaro vs. Dio, fight as it is very unique and epic. Especially true for the 1993 OVA; while people's opinions vary on whether it's a good adaptation as a whole, nearly everybody agrees that the final episode of Jotaro and Dio's fight was pulled off near-flawlessly and a must-see.

** Kira Yoshikage. As one of the most popular [=JoJo=] villains, he actively and unrepentantly serial-kills for 15 years, and after his initial defeat, runs circles around the protagonists without even trying. And when he ''does'' try...
* MagnificentBastard: [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable Yoshikage Kira]] and [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStoneOcean Enrico Pucci]]. See those pages for details.

* MemeticLoser:
** Okuyasu is remembered as [[IdiotHero the guy]] who never used [[PortalCut his]] [[StoryBreakerPower Stand]] to the best of its abilities. That said however he does at the end to defeat Kira and it makes Kira's chances of winning go from really high to almost nothing in an instant.
** Anasui is often a ButtMonkey in fancomics. ''[[VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureEyesOfHeaven Eyes of Heaven]]'' furthered this by making Jolyne have unique intros and [=DHAs=] with Ermes and Weather Report, but not him.
* MemeticMolester:
** Noriaki Kakyoin. Thanks to an off-handed comment on his admiration of [[StacysMom Holly]] plus the infamous cherry scene, fans like to portray him as a MILF-hunter who's out stalking older women.
** Tusk ACT 4. No matter what doors or walls you put up to protect yourself, it will break them down trying to get you while crying "chumimi~in".

** Ciocolatta wastes no time in activating his stand Green Day, which spreads a deadly mold that injures anyone caught in it, including civilians. His rampage ends up killing several people across Rome, all while he takes sadistic glee in it.
** Pucci crosses it for Jotaro when he decides to pull Dio's signature knife move on Jolyne to anger him.
** Funny Valentine crosses it after trying to rape Lucy. In Johnny's eyes, he crosses it when he backs out of his promise to [[spoiler: revive Gyro when he decides to kill him.]]

** Kakyoin's status as a sex god originates from an offhand line early in Part 3, where he mentions that he admires Jotaro's mom and would want to one day marry a woman like her. [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment It comes rather out of the blue, moments before they set out to find Dio]].
** Kakyoin will also never live down the creepy tongue thing [[spoiler: a thing he only did once, as the other two times it was Rubber Soul simply impersonating him.]]
** A lot of fans still can't get over the fact that the TV airing for ''Stardust Crusaders'' had to censor scenes that involved Jotaro smoking since he is a minor, but didn't censor Anne's nudity during the fight with Forever or even Mannish Boy's genitals. The JerkAss and NinetiesAntiHero aspects that make him TheScrappy for a lot of Part 3 fans are heavily dialed down, positive traits like his nerdy animal-loving side become a lot more prominent, his stepping down from the protagonist role makes him less of overly perfect, and his reticence makes him {{Adorkable}} rather than hard to empathize with this time around. It also helps that he serves as a BigBrotherMentor to both Josuke and Koichi. ** The 1993 OVA of ''Stardust Crusaders'', which started InMediasRes and was a CompressedAdaptation that cut out most of the fights and humor of the original. *** When Creator/VizMedia announced that they would release the first season of the anime on Blu-Ray (Warner Bros. still own the rights to distribute the show on DVD), they stated that the release would include an english dub... but didn't specify whether it would be the same english dub from Warner's DVD release or a brand new english dub, leading to debates on whether Viz should actually bother redubbing the first season or simply include the Warner Bros. english dub.
*** Whether or not Creator/BangZoomEntertainment was a good choice to produce the English dub is yet another debate entirely. Some felt that a lot of the issues with the dub fell mostly on Bang Zoom's involvement. In particular many Bang Zoom detractors feel as if the studio has become notorious for constantly reusing the same voice actors in leading roles (especially in non-union dubs) and as such the dub played it safe. It especially didn't help that the detractors felt that Bang Zoom's usual talent pool now donning fake accents to be eye-rolling. There's also the fact that Creator/NewGenerationPictures is based in Los Angeles and their work on ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' proves that there are British voice actors in the area and non-British voice actors can pull off solid accents. This has led the detractors to believe that New Generation Pictures would have been a much better choice. Others however didn't mind Bang Zoom's involvement seeing as how many of their fans find that their recent dubs have been relatively strong and have been pleased with the recent talent pool that Bang Zoom has been using in the past few years.

** The first opening of the Part 4 anime 'Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town', is divisive: fans are either appreciating it for its vibrant colors and light hearted theme, or disappointed for not being in the heavily actioned CGI animations with loads of symbolism and foreshadowing elements that the previous four openings had. Although despite all this, the fans have agreed that the song itself is really catchy.
*** The second opening, 'chase', is equally divisive for the complete opposite reasons: the visuals are much more drab, with a lot of gray dulling the colors, while the song has been accused by some of sounding like a generic anime rock theme song. The opening does have its fans, who find that the darker tone fits with the CerebusSyndrome that kicks in shortly after the OP switch.
*** The third opening, 'Great Days', shows that ''Diamond is Unbreakable'' just can't seem to catch a [[IncrediblyLamePun break]] here. This time, the arguments presented from both sides seem to [[HistoryRepeats mirror]] those for 'Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town': some like it for its catchy tune and fun, vibrant visuals, while others dislike how its upbeat nature directly contrasts that of 'chase' and the darker portion of the manga that the latter applied to (despite 'Great Days' being applied to the point where the manga underwent ReverseCerebusSyndrome). Unlike 'Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town', however, the song itself also seems to be pretty divisive, as fans are split on whether 'Great Days' is either a well-written and catchy song or another generic J-pop track in an industry littered with them.
** The 2012 anime airing on Toonami. That alone isn't an issue (after all, the anime was one of the most highly requested shows for the block), but it was announced at a time when Toonami was airing ''four'' other long-running shows (specifically ''[[Anime/DragonBallKai Dragon Ball Z Kai]]'', ''Manga/HunterXHunter'', ''[[Manga/{{Naruto}} Naruto: Shippuden]]'', and ''Manga/OnePiece''). Add in the block currently having little room for other shows, and this naturally lead to some fans groaning that Toonami should've saved ''[=JoJo=]'' for a later date instead of filling up with long-runners. Others are completely fine with this, being quick to point out that the announcement was made when ''Dragon Ball Z Kai'' was nearing the end of its own run, and that ''[=JoJo=]'' making it onto Toonami at all after the issues with Warner Bros. is itself nothing short of a miracle.
*** Speaking of ''[=JoJo=]'' on Toonami, there's also the argument on what part of the anime they should have started airing at. Some argue that Toonami should've began at ''Stardust Crusaders'', due to it being the most well-known part in the U.S. and audiences getting to see what is arguably [[EvilIsCool DIO at his coolest]] earlier. Others defend Toonami's decision to begin at ''Phantom Blood'', as viewing it would give context to DIO's character and allow audiences to appreciate his portrayal in ''Stardust Crusaders'' more, as well as the fact that Toonami would have been skipping over the highly enjoyable ''Battle Tendency''.

is generally considered to be one of the weaker parts, mainly due to SequelEscalation enforced by the other parts.
* FoeYay: Occasionally overpowering.
** In Part 1, Dio wants Jonathan's body. [[spoiler:In order to "live gorgeously forever".]]
** In Part 2, two of the Pillar Men actually become engaged to Joseph, with rings
most quotable and everything. It's an engagement ''of Death'', but an engagement nonetheless.
** The anime adaption of Part 3, added a flashback scene in which Kakyoin first meets Dio (and in turn get the flesh bud). Watching the scene feels like the poor guy is getting molested.
** Telence D'Arby touching Kakyoin after storing his soul into doll, as well as looking under his coat and rubbing his cheek against his.
** Josuke/Rohan is a pretty popular pairing even though Josuke doesn't care for Rohan and WordOfGod is that Rohan flat-out hates Josuke's guts for [[spoiler:burning his house down]]. Then again, Rohan is pretty {{Tsundere}}, and is willing to endanger himself to protect Josuke against Highway Star, so there is a limit to his antipathy.
* FoodPorn: Pops up often, especially in Part 4. Yoshikage Kira/[[spoiler: Kosaku Kawajiri]]'s [[http://aidoru-ojisan.tumblr.com/post/150512011602 cooking]] is given a lot of detail in the anime, with soft music and lots of close-ups to empasize how mouth-watering it is. But then you remember [[{{SerialKiller}} why he's so good with knives]]...
* FountainOfMemes: The series is often famous amongst casual fans for coining dozens of memes by the truckload.
** If Dio doesn't inspire this, nobody does.
** Joseph Joestar in Part 2.
** The Duwang scans in Part 4, due to their SoBadItsGood translations.
memorable character.

** While mostly overshadowed by the later parts of the series in Japan due to being before Stands and [[MinorityShowGhetto featuring a completely non-Japanese main character at a time when such was viewed as anathema]], Part 2 is widely considered to be one of the best by [=JoJo=] fans outside Japan, who enjoy its protagonist's absurd levels of HotBlooded and CrazyAwesome. In fact, Joseph being regarded as the best main character is one of the few things that the English-speaking fandom can come close to a consensus on. Some StupidSexyFlanders may or may not also be involved with Part 2's popularity, what with all the the memetic degree of MachoCamp and HoYay / LGBTFanbase resulting from having the testosterone-enriched equivalent of a CastFullOfPrettyBoys, plus all the hilariously [[{{Stripperific}} oversexualized male designs]] and fabulous posing involved.
** Despite Josuke being a pretty popular [=JoJo=], having the 2nd most popular villain (behind Dio), and being one of the most popular parts overseas, Part 4 is one of the least popular in Japan (ironic since it's one of the few parts that actually engages in CreatorProvincialism). However, since it's Araki's favorite section of the manga, he pushes for merchandise of it.
** Part 7 is near-universally praised in the West for its fantastic storytelling as a strong start to the new continuity, but Japan seems to outright ignore it the most compared to every other part, due in part to residual bitterness to the end of part 6 and no small amount of TheyChangedItNowItSucks. Oddly enough, Part 8 has, so far, been perfectly well-received there.
** Italy remains the only western country where has been fully released and has significant popularity. The series has a strong cult following around the world though. 1/5 of the cast is Italian, one of the 8 parts takes place in Italy and all parts with the exception of 3 references Italy to an extent. Italians love [=JoJo=], and [=JoJo=] returns the favor.

* GeniusBonus:
** Whitesnake/C-Moon has "GΔCT" written all over its body to represent the four nucleobases that bond DNA. [[spoiler:Astute geneticist readers will notice that the delta sign (Δ), where A should be, is the sign of gene deletion aka a missing genome, foreshadowing that Whitesnake/C-Moon aren't the "complete" forms of Pucci's stand.]]
** A fairly depressing one regarding the second ED of part 3's anime. In it, you can see a section that has Joseph, Jotaro and Polnareff on one side of the river, and Abdul, Iggy and Kakyoin on the other side. [[spoiler: In Japanese mythology, it's believed that the dead have to cross a river named the Sanzu River in order to make it to the afterlife, much like the Greek mythologies River Styx. In addition, the New Kingdom era of ancient Egypt traditionally buried the dead on the other side of the Nile, opposite Thebes. Kakyoin, Iggy and Abdul have already crossed the river, foreshadowing their tragic deaths.]]

* AlasPoorScrappy
** Many people felt bad when [[spoiler:Shigechi got brutally murdered by Kira]] in Part 4. It helps that [[spoiler: his last moments had him wanting to protect his parents and that he gave the clue that starts the hunt for Kira.]] This is even lampshaded by Josuke, who notes that [[spoiler: even though Shigechi was annoying and greedy, his death still affects him and Okuyasu]].
** Even for a relatively unliked ([[TheScrappy for the wrong reasons]]) main villain, some readers felt that Diavolo's fate [[spoiler:of being subjected to an infinite death loop]] is too excessive. Considering his track record, that's something.

* AssPull:
** In Part 2, Joseph suggests the completely reasonable proposal to stop the villains' plan by destroying the MacGuffin they're chasing after, the Red Stone of Aja, which Lisa Lisa already possesses. To keep the story from ending prematurely on such a boringly mundane note, Araki has Lisa Lisa explain that according to a legend, without the Stone, the Pillar Men would ultimately be impossible to defeat. One can argue that this is true because [[spoiler:Ultimate Kars is only defeated due to his own Aja-amplified Ripple causing a volcano to erupt]], but that would require one to forget that [[spoiler:the Red Stone of Aja is the only reason Kars became the Ultimate Lifeform in the first place, and that he was moments away from being killed by Joseph and Stroheim before he transformed]]. Subverted when you realize that Kars had intended to kill Joseph and Lisa Lisa with his army of vampires as soon as they entered his chambers. The only reason that they'd even gotten to have their one on one duels instead is because Lisa Lisa was able to use the Red Stone as a bartering chip, which they then had to prove was real before said duels. Additionally, the Red Stone's continued existence caused Kars to act in a more direct fashion. Without its presence, he likely would have gone into hiding until he could find a substitute, possibly creating an even larger vampire army.
** [[spoiler:Kars suddenly getting the mask with the stone inserted without anyone knowing, just as he's about to be fried by ultraviolet rays.]] The anime alleviates this somewhat due to a bit of AdaptationExpansion in which [[spoiler:Kars makes a seemingly futile leap after first landing on the spikes, giving him a more plausible opportunity to grab the mask and put the jewel in.]]
** In Part 3, [[spoiler:Avdol surviving out of nowhere. He was clearly shot in the head several chapters ago with the rest of the cast confirming his status, but was brought back due to fan demand. Now, when it is revealed he is back, the cast tries to make it look like they kept his identity a secret.]] The anime tries to alleviate this by [[spoiler:actually showing Avdol moving in the way he described when the bullet gashed his forehead.]]
** In Part 4, the plot needs Jotaro to pass the torch to Josuke and become a more vulnerable character, so it has Angelo and other villains know about a [[StoryBreakerPower certain little trick]] he learned to do at the end of Part 3. However, it's never explained how they figured out such a huge secret. Especially when you remember Jotaro himself said that, for whatever reason, he never used that power between the battle against DIO and his arrival to Morioh.

* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Polnareff. Is he a fleshed out character deserving of main protagonist status or a SpotlightStealingSquad whose ButtMonkey antics are stealing onscreen/on-panel time from characters who need it more like Avdol or Kakyoin?
** Jotaro gets this to a lesser extent. There are fans who admire him for being the cool, calm, and collected badass one of the [=JoJos=]. But there are also fans who find his stoic personality boring compared to more popular and animated [=JoJos=], such as Joseph Joestar.
** Shigechi, a fat, greedy kid who's quick to blame his friends when something goes wrong and has a tendency to go back on his word. He is one of the least liked characters in Part 4, [[spoiler:[[AlasPoorScrappy but his death at Kira's hands still warrants some pity]]]]. That being said, he's still a 14 year old, two years younger than Josuke and Okuyasu, plus he has no real concept on how friendships work, considering he gave half a billion to Josuke, indicating he's socially stunted. Also, while he is greedy, [[NotSoDifferent so is Josuke]].
** Giorno is this in spades, with fans often either citing him as one of the best [=JoJos=] or the absolute worst depending on who you're speaking too. Fans in favor of him often cite his cold, tactical personality, while those who are against him find that personality flat and boring in favor of the more upbeat [=JoJos=] like Joseph or Josuke. His lack of front-line fighting compared to most of the other [=JoJos=] also ties into the base breaking, as does the nature of Golden Experience and how overpowered it is especially by the end.
** Narciso Anasui of Part 6, either beloved as a hilarious and badass JerkWithAHeartOfGold and one of the most competent main characters bar ''maybe'' Jolyne, or hated as an overbearing StalkerWithACrush.
** Joseph after part 2. Either the previously mentioned BadassDecay is justified, as he's not the main character anymore and he's still a decent character, or his depiction in parts 3 and 4 is a complete disgrace that makes him a total joke.
** While Dio, Kira, Pucci, and Valentine have all been viewed favorably and Diavolo is generally disliked, Kars is the most divisive main villain among the fandom. To some he's one of the most interesting villains in the entire franchise since he was one of the more sinister and intelligent villains, wasn't a villain ForTheEvulz but rather had understandable motivations, and [[spoiler: ultimately lived up to outclassing Dio and became the strongest villain in the entire franchise with a climatic battle to follow.]] Others however see him as a boring villain who was way too mysterious and didn't have enough presence in the narrative, got overshadowed by his subordinates Wamuu and Esidisi in terms of fights and overall character, and came off as plain unlikable after [[spoiler: dishonoring Wamuu and Esidisi by greivously wounding Lisa Lisa and refusing to fight her.]]

*** Then again, this is a song based around [[FridgeBrilliance Yoshikage Kira]].

** In ''Battle Tendency'', after Wamuu released his masters Kars and Esidisi from their emprisonment, Kars accidentally steps on Wamuu's shadow. This caused the latter to instinctively attack the former. He quickly apologizes to his master and Kars does the same. That being said, stepping on Wamuu's shadow comes across as a [[ChekhovSGun Chekhov's Gun]], but no. It's never mentioned again.
** In the anime of ''Battle Tendency'', while monologuing to [=JoJo=] over the unconscious Lisa Lisa, Kars... starts strumming her legs to air guitar. According to rumours, Creator/KazuhikoInoue decided to joke while making that scene, but Creator/DavidProduction decided to ThrowItIn because it was funny.

* CanonDefilement: Kakyoin is notorious in anime fandoms as a poster boy for the {{Wimpification}} trope. The manga explicitly [[DefiedTrope defies]] this, mentioning early on that despite his [[{{Bishonen}} feminine]] appearance he's very strong-willed and the complete opposite of an {{Uke}}, but it's not uncommon for fanworks to depict him as [[TheIngenue extremely sweet and innocent]] or [[ExtremeDoormat slavishly submissive]] to Jotaro anyway. Unfortunately it's this characterization that became more famous with the YaoiFangirl PeripheryDemographic, not helped by the fact that popular mangaka like Creator/{{CLAMP}} indulged in it (and may have even kicked it off).
** It's even worse if he's paired with Dio, [[LoveMartyr where he falls for him despite everything Dio has been trying to do to kill him and the crusaders]]. Often these stories paint Kakyoin as giving himself to Dio [[MoreThanMindControl willingly]], giving him something that resembles StockholmSyndrome.
** Jotaro doesn't come out smelling like roses either. It's not uncommon in Japanese fanworks at least to raise Jotaro's aggression/and or possessiveness to Yandere levels at times.

* CommonKnowledge: There is a surprisingly high number of casual fans, and critics, that say that Jonathan was the father of Joseph. This isn't true as Part 2 clearly explains that Joseph is Jonathan's grandson. Even if you discount the TangledFamilyTree that is the Joestar lineage its still ridiculous that so many people believe this when one of the main arcs of Part 2 [[spoiler:was the reveal of who Joseph's mother is.]]

%% * CreatorsPet: Jotaro himself is also an example, since he is by far [[SpotlightStealingSquad the most]] [[WolverinePublicity likely]] [[CharacterFocus to be featured]] in [=JoJo=]-related media, and being one of the most recognizable aspects of the series due to PopCulturalOsmosis only exacerbates this tendency, despite being one of the most controversial [=JoJos=] due to having a personality considered unlikeable. This causes many fans to go from indifference or or mere dislike to downright despising him, at least for his Part 3 incarnation (see RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap).
* CreepyAwesome: Yoshikage Kira is one of the most popular villains in the series, despite (or rather because of) the fact that he's a [[AmbiguousDisorder mentally unstable]] MadBomber and SerialKiller with a hand fetish. His [[spoiler: time-travel shenanigans]] and [[WouldHurtAChild complete nonchalance]] towards murder probably help matters.

* DracoInLeatherPants:
** Some fans tend to think that Dio is less monstrous than he actually is, going so far as to draw him as a caring father to Giorno.
** You would be surprised at how many people attempt to rationalize and justify Yoshikage Kira's actions around the fanbase despite him being a SerialKiller and MadBomber.
** A sizeable part of the fandom likes Funny Valentine because of his patriotism.
** Some of the enemy Stand users from Part 3, particularly N'Dhoul, Mariah, Midler, and frighteningly the D'Arby brothers (especially Telence) often have their evil qualities toned down in fan works. Some fans even go as far as believing that they're just regular people when not fighting for DIO.
** While La Squadra Di Esecuzione was portrayed as a group of {{anti villain}}s, it's not uncommon to see their humanizing traits played up in the fandom and/or portraying them as having a family-like bond. Risotto Nero tends to get the blunt of this; despite being a cold, calculating assassin in canon, it's very common to see him characterized as an emotional and caring leader, if not outright [[AFatherToHisMen dad-like]] in fanworks.
