Merged per TRS, but it's a ZCE

* FairForItsDay: Having a tiny chinese boy called Ping Pong and the rather {{Blackface}} looking character design of Jim on the original cover may be a bit cringe-worthy today, but the main themes of the books are decidedly anti-racist and advocating a diverse society and the overcomming of predjudices.
* MarySuetopia: Except for the obligatory EvilChancellor (who is disposed of pretty quickly), everything about Mandalia fits this trope.

* UnfortunateImplications: The second Jim Button book ends with [[spoiler: Jim getting married to an Oriental princess. They are both eight years old]].
** Was that actually stated? I was under the assumption that [[spoiler: Jim must have been 12 or 13 years old when the plot starts running, since the king decided Jim was close to being a full subject and therefore needed a home on his own, so the railway had to go to make room. And at least a year passes between that point and the end of the second book. They're still a young couple, but you could find teenagers who would want to marry at that age.]]
